  • Hey everyone! In today's lesson I'm going to show you all how to play "Love Me Tender" by Elvis Presley. The first part of this song is dead simple... it just goes D E A D. (See what I did there?) The second part, however, is a bit trickier in terms of the chord shapes used.
Throughout the lesson I mention some resources that'll help you with guitar.

My Fingerstyle course covers everything from beginner to intermediate (and even a bit of advanced) in a practical, song-learning sorta way:

The lesson begins with the chord shapes used in the A-section: D E and A. We practice them with downstrokes only, and then take a look at a strumming pattern.
The pattern is ultra simple, rhytmically. It's the bass notes that are going to provide a bit of a challenge. In order to play it like the original recording, we have to use "alternating bass notes." So we pluck a string, then strum the chord, then pluck a DIFFERENT string, and strum the whole chord again. I go over this for each and every chord used in this song. I recommend spending most of your time memorizing and getting used to these bass notes, as they will keep coming up in many, many styles of music.
Following that, we take a look at the B-section, which has some barre chords and other things going on, but it's not too tough. We work through all of it step-by-step and eventually we play through the song.
I hope you enjoy the lesson and I'll see you next time!
    -James

This is by far the best tutorial of this song I have seen! You put so much effort into your videos and just want to say it really shows. I've struggled to learn this song in the past and I've learnt it within a day now. You are a fantastic teacher. :)

I have a massive problem strumming because you must be completely confident on chords first. Concentrating on chords doesn't give me the focus on strumming.
