- An extended Interview of cinematographer Gordon Willis from the film, Cinematographer Style. It pays homage to the artists who transform ideas into images. It sets out to answer the essential questions: What is a cinematographer? What makes style? Is it inspiration, innovation, experience? With 110 masterfully edited interviews of celebrated cinematographers from around the world, Cinematographer Style creates a collective narrative about the process and progress of filmmaking. The distinguished group of artists including Vittorio Storaro, ASC, AIC (Apocalypse Now), Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC (No Country for Old Men), and Gordon Willis ASC (The Godfather) discuss their various backgrounds, their dreams and struggles, and, most importantly, the passion they have for their craft. Venturing further into the psyche of each cinematographer, this documentary traces how style and technique evolve, culminating in the new technological possibilities and pitfalls of the future. In the end, these diverse artists are united by one thing: a love of the moving image. A visually striking and beautifully lit film, Cinematographer Style celebrates the passion, dedication, and art of the men and women who make movies look the way they do.

what a great interview. Thank you so much for sharing.
Willis and Storaro are perhaps my two favorite. Willis is a master of light and Storaro of color. Both have iconic frames in their work.
Never heard of storaro. Definitely will look into his work. Any films you recommend ?
@@ernestotamayo655 The Conformist, Apocalypse Now, and The Last Emperor. He also created the 2:1 aspect ratio that a lot of tv shows and films use. Also, Rosco makes a gel pack of his colors. Very useful.
Pasqualino de Santis, Sven Nykvist and Gunnar Fischer.
They are great but Nydquist is the MASTER of light. And Bob Richardson is keeping the torch lit. When Richardson goes that will be the end of an era that cinema will never see again.
Miss him so much. One of the finest cameramen this country has ever produced.
When did he pass?

That's a Gordon Willis line from an Alec Baldwin story. Sorry.
Great interview. Thanks for posting.
Telling G.W to rephrase his answers. Like telling Brando can you cut out the pauses. Dear Lord....
Thank you for posting dude
This talk is invaluable to me!
WILLIS : prince of darkness / STORARO : wizard of colors
This is genius

No

the prince of darkness
Why does the interviewer keep asking him to repeat his answers?
Very annoying
Too bad the interviewer didn't think to mic himself.
He fucking called it. Sucks that he was right. Digital cameras won. But he was wrong about it not being bad thing.
Blah blah blah. Your medium doesn’t make your work special. I prefer film too but man I’m tired of this stupid debate.
