*IMPORTANT NOTE: the infinite money exploit and shimmer invincibility has already been patched in 1.4.4.3 and 1.4.4.4, respectively. Now the 1 second timer and the copper pickaxe can't be disassembled and you'd take damage from boss attacks while in shimmering state.

So yes, the infinite money exploit and Shimmer invincibility have been patched. I knew it would happen, but that was rather quick.

I love how Shimmer feels like the ultimate "you know what, go nuts" addition from the dev team. There's no way they didn't know this would be exploited to hell and back right away, because it's so goddamn inventive and interesting to almost invite that kind of behavior

I spent a solid 10 minutes chucking stuff in and testing it out. I discovered gems can become other gems, magic mirror is broken down into its new crafting recipe, and the existence of shimmer arrows could be quite powerful for early game ranger. Also aether torches and campfire are beautiful

The fact that the terraria devs keep making actually new and amazing context makes me happy, so glad shimmer isnt just re-textured honey

Not to be a grammar nazi, but it's an exploit and not a glitch. A glitch is an unintentional effect due to mistakes in code, an exploit is an unintentional side effect due to intentional additions.

As soon as I found out shimmer reflects projectiles, I knew Mappy would be using it to kill a God. After all, could we expect any less!

it wont because the items will just float since your inventory would be full before it gets crazy
It only uncrafts the finally stage, I don't remember any items needing 100 different items that doesn't combine them first

Fun fact: if you uncraft titan potions or pianos you can get bones before killing skeletron. It's not much but it's worth mentioning.
It lets you get the void bag pre-skellyboi, so that is something :o
For a second I thought "hey that's necro armor and spinal tap without killing any boss!" and then I realized that you only get 4 bones per piano...
But pre-skeletron void bag sounds possible.
@@anneonymous You need 8 pianos for the bag, 4 for the vault. (A bit less if you find titan potions in jungle chests and the like.)
If you keep your eyes out for them they're more common than you'd expect and in special seeds (like the zenith seed or just celebrationmk10, where cabins are rainbow) it's pretty easy to find cabins that could just have them, so yeah, actually pretty doable if you remember to take every piano you find.
Fixed in 1.4.4.5, sadly. You also can't get lihzard brick pre-golem anymore with shimmer.

Edit: now that I’ve watched the video, it’s insane to see how many things people have made with the new features in such a short time, including how to break it.
They'll probably patch out teleporters affecting you in shimmer. Timers and a few other items are probably also gonna become a bit more expensive.
Probably just enough to be a slight profit loss when you de-craft them. Still, you can now buy Gold and other earlygame ores in bulk by de-crafting timers! No longer will I have to go caving just to get silver bricks for my Hallow base lol

Unfortunately, it takes the fun out of obsessively collecting tens of thousands of gold bars and making an obscenely large pyramid of solid gold.
Tbh they'll have to do a lot to balance the shimmer if they really want to. Putting aside money and teleportation, it's not like you can't just out-regen ML and the shimmer makes it easier by increasing possible dps so really the concerns would be EoL and DG, and with the shown EoL setup that just leaves DG, which would always be limited to importing stuff to new worlds anyway, but it would be very possible to just make a long falling pit since it follows you or use portal gun portals. I'd say they might patch teleporters, maybe pumps, and maybe money. The latter two being far more likely imo. Teleporters already have a lot going on and a fair amount of jank, as displayed with the hammer glitch, fixing them might just be more trouble than it's worth.

Maybe they'll just remove the ability to pump it, making it post-moon lord only. But they've shown this update that they want the player to be kinda op after moon lord. Given the un-nerfed rod of discord and such.
Shimmer is awesome. I only know a small handful of the new items, but the Shimmer is definitely one thing I'm hyping hard... That, the Bottomless Honey Bucket, Ultra Sponge, and that cute little Shellphone upgrade.

I discovered shimmer arrows through my own experimentation, and the magic mirror recipe, and gem conversion

Combined with the Lava and Water versions, you get an Ultra Sponge capable of cleaning anything.
It also gets a slight range upgrade.

Yeah it’s just be a heck of a lot more work with getting teleporters and the right pets or setting up a 3 minuet timer to push you out not to mention getting the shimmer up there

I will say, while your at it, shimmer a stack of store bought potions. Never have to worry about water bottles ever again.

I was in 1.4.3 version, making an automated afk sand farm using antlions (saw a video doing the same) and this update comes along and introduces the yellow solution (sand) which can turn dirt to sand. So, almost a days worth of progress was sent to waste

6:25 This is useful for boss arenas where you want to squeeze that little bit of damage from the nimbus rod. Simply place the cloud about a puddle of shimmer and the boss has a damage wall to travel through at any height!

As of Oct 4 2022 sadly you can no longer deconstruct any timers or gain invincibility against bosses when using shimmer

I gotta do that; no way I'd win that fight under normal circumstances, now that instakills can go through dodges.
One really awesome thing not featured in this video is shimmer synergizing with alchemy tables to basically enable infinite potions in the regular game. With the 20% chance to not consume crafting components potions can be crafted and disassembled until you generate as many extra ingredients as you want through the process. Awesome qol that makes the potions requiring fish or other weird components way more accessible.
I'd honestly consider that more broken than infinite money, with +10% damage/resist potions being otherwise a pain to mass produce.
I was waiting to see this beautiful hippo again. I saw the old terra-blade tech video, and was excited for this.

Deconstructing the 1 second timer doesn't work anymore, pain.
You could theoretically put conveyor belts on the sides of the machine to bring Moon Lord's drops to you, letting you escape with the portal gun.
You can also rig up timers and/or day/night sensors to eventually let you out. Then you just have to make sure you kill the boss fast enough...
(but it's been patched anyway)

14:37 Wand of sparking already made a video on a similar thing, but theirs is probably more simple (other then the mechanism that lets you leave) and more efficient since projectiles won't stop you from having shimmering. (it doesn't require a dummy or a third teleporter, just you teleport to one teleporter, fall through it until you get to the next one which uses something so you'll be noticed by the other teleporter, and then rinse repeat)

For the infinite money glitch, you can also put the chains in to get iron bars, that's even MORE money.

ok hear me out, if you make the infinite shimmer bucket by tossing an infinite bucket into shimmer, and shimmer uncrafts the infinite shimmer bucket into an infinite bucket and luminite, that'll save a lot of time on getting post moon lord equipment
no, it turns back into an infinite water bucket
You can only transmute the Bottomless Water Bucket into a Shimmer one and vice-versa post-ML, so yeah
terrablade's old projectile with the honey was cool, but the phantasm/tsunami cheesing is even better!

i feel like some bugs dont need to be patched. lets take duping for example. they can patch it BUT some people like it and some people dont, so they might aswell leave it in if anyone likes it. the thing people dont understand is its a primarily singleplayer game and the player can chose if they want to play legit or not
Fair warning: A lot of shimmer effects only work post-moonlord. Decrafting timers appears to not work pre-moonlord. So, be careful not to waste your money early on!
(Although, they could have patched it out already.)
They did indeed patch it out, along with some more recipes. You can still do it with copper pickaxes though

Example, setup a Empress of Lightmode fight to end at dusk, and the night sensor will release you. :D

Wand of Sparking also recently created an invincibility machine with Shimmer, specifically to fight Empress of Light during the day. Setting Night Logic sensors up to actuators set in the blocks making up the Shimmer tank will completely disable the infinite loop once night hits. Something similar could be set up for Moonlord, but I'm not nearly smart enough on the technical side of terraria to come up with an option
You could use night sensors but the magic lantern method in the video works just fine. Also they made shimmer invicibility no longer protect you from bosses, so don't use it on moon lord, but it still works on non-bosses.

A terraria tester said cheeses you have to work for are not worth patching. Shimmer is one of those. To move shimmer, you need to pump it. To pump it, you need to have the mechanic, to get the mechanic, you need to defeat Skeleton. You also need teleporters to cheese using shimmer, and that requires the steampunk. That requires defeating a mechanical boss.

I got to admit, at the honey/shimmer box I was thinking 'ok enough get to the point' but nothing could have prepared me for that 😂
My only slight disappointment with Shimmer is that you can't swap Evil ores to the opposite ore, ie, corruption into crimson ore, other than that, this is one heck of an update.
They patched the infinite money :( or at least it didn't work in multiplayer when I tried to break them up though maybe that is post moonlord

when searching for this mini biome, I didn't find it the first time I dig a hole... but I got an enchanted sword on the way down so that's a big plus since it's a fresh world, and apparently the cave I got was connected to it, I just didn't expect that tiny gap to be the way in there.... still hoping they add more shimmer version of some weapon which is incredibly rare like the slime staff or the better version of enchanted sword
