Just stop leaning forward. Stand comfortably or even lean back. The onewheel will then slow down. (Works downhill too)
That's exactly what the Onewheel tried to suggest the rider to do (by raising the front as a speed warning).
Because even downhill you cannot lean forward and accelerate forever without losing balance.
It's a single axle vehicle that uses electric power to keep the board from tilting.
If you lean forward too much and go too fast you're overpowering the motor and stability will be lost at some point (see video).

I had something similar happen. In my case, I was pushing 25mph. I had already reached a max of 28mph and felt comfortable riding through push back. Unfortunately I only weigh 135lb and one of the frontpad sensors wasn't registering that I was on it. I was listening to music and talking on the phone so I didn't hear the warning sound, and eventually the whole thing just shut off on me while on a bike path next to cars. I rode the nose for about 2 seconds and then fell and slid in a Superman flying pose for about 10 feet forward. I have Flight Fins on my Onewheel that caught on my backfoot and broke my big toe. Had gnarly roadrash on both my forearms as well. I ended up getting a medical boot and riding the Onewheel for about another two weeks after, even rode about 40 miles in a span of 2 days during this time period. With the boot on, it felt just like snowboarding. I eventually stopped to take a break and heal. I had my toe checked out about 3 months later just to confirm it was broken. I finally rode my Onewheel again this past weekend. I put little pads that you put on the feet of furniture on the front footpad where the sensors are located to avoid the same issue and it's worked perfectly. I now ride at 20mph or less.
This shows the danger of 'automatic safeties'. Like not being ALLOWED to shut off your car when the pedal is stuck..

There seems to be a lot of confusion in the comments as to why it doesn't just slow you down. The board balances you on top of it, and if it slows down without you leaning back, you will go flying off the front anyway.
it doesn’t need to make u slow down but it should stop u from accelerating further instead of nose dive occurring
@@GB2G I think if you keep leaning forward, it will have to keep trying to accelerate to keep the board underneath you, otherwise it would tip you forward anyway.
@@thevfxwizard7758 right but if it stops accelerating, by reaching its top speed, u will be able to detect the difference in weight distribution and naturally keep ur balance but if it slows u down, it will be an unnatural transition of momentum leading u to become suddenly unbalanced

@@GB2G I see where you're coming from, but I believe that the wheel is actively balancing you. This means that if it is not able to accelerate properly underneath you, it will nosedive. Decreasing the accelerations is what the board effectively does when it nosedives. The reason you can't correct for this by leaning back is because you would push the platform forward into a nosedive.

People need to take responsibility for themselves. I ride e-wheels, similar but not the same, and they will also tilt back to warn you you are nearing the limit. @@Chris-xo2rqthat warning also harms you💀
You mean to tell me that this thing will wipe you out on purpose?
It's not like it has a choice, it has to accelerate to keep you from falling over in the first place. You accelerate by leaning forward so it drives forward and therefore balances to platform for your feet. It can only handle certain speeds, if you go past those by continuing to lean forward and forcing it to accelerate it won't have enough power to keep you balanced anymore

Skateboards have the same safety feature its called the "death wobble".
@Invalid Characters read the first word of death wobble
@Invalid Characters if you don’t know what a death wobble is, is basically what it sounds like lol. The wheels and the board wobble uncontrollably when going high speeds and it just fucking flings you off and the board goes in what ever direction it desires (least of your concerns) it’s happeend to me once being naive trying hillbomb for my first time in a stupidly deep hill and fell in the middle of an intersection after sliding down the hill on my bag for a couple of feet/yards (thank god the light was just turning green for my side of the road to start going and the street I was on was empty)
Me and friends used to call them speed wobbles. Death seems like a better fit though. Even if you don't fall it'll scare you half to death anyway.
Too many people think pushback is what causes the board to fail. The board keeps you up by speeding up when you lean forwards. That wheel only has so much torque before it gives out so the pushback kicks in when its starting to reach that limit. You can actually ride a little faster than pushback but if you do you have to accept the chances you end up on the floor are almost guaranteed. The red line for your RPM in a car isnt what blows up the engine its the warning and its similar with pushback

I love the latest update on the Onewheel, which is the vibration and beeping noise when the board begins to push back. Helps me know when to cool it
It's funny. You can tell the commenters that have never ridden. They think the nosedive is the 'safety feature'. They don't see the nose lifting (pushback) that preceded the nosedive that he clearly ignored and pushed through.
For those that don't understand, the motor can only spin so fast with so much power. If you attempt to accelerate to a speed beyond it's limit/power, it keeps just a little extra in reserve. I last ditch boost of power to lift the front end and tell you to show. Not only do you feel it, but it actually makes continued acceleration awkward since your foot it lifting instead of dropping like normal. But, if you push through anyway, it eventually can't keep up and nosedives. 🤷
So is the nose dive basically like the motor being overpowered past its "nose up" limit?
@@darksparkyshark430 you got it. After a point, the motor is like "Sorry dude. I can only go so fast. I tried to warn you, but you didn't listen 🤷." Pushback is the warning.

Even through my jacket I scraped my arm really hard and now there’s a giant scab scrape thing there. I also managed to get it all on video cause I was just trying to film the scenery.
dress for the slide, not for the ride ;)
Wow ✨️ As a Digial Nomad & part-time VanLifer on the 'thick-side', i need one of these for sure! Thanks for sharing😊
its the best thing in the world, when you dont ignore pushback ;)
Never ignore the pushback no matter how experienced you are at riding.
Guy on the left:
("Hey I think you ought to slow down..")
"Be careful, (you're gonna faceplant)"
Guy on the right:
"Screw your warning. I choose death!"
Why are there no replies yet?
@@toaddude8142 definitely rare haha
The coming of Jesus Christ is close my brothers and sisters!! Please repent of your sins and ask God for salvation for the time is short 💕😞 we are not perfect which is why we need to seek the lord more than ever!❤️❤️🙏🏼..... God spoke to me through dreams and is waiting that you may come to him!.
No, Death chose him
Those speed wobbles came and it was game over lol
A lot of people don't seem to understand that they can't simply make the board slow down or stop accelerating without the rider flying off anyways. Pushback just tells you that you are going too fast, it didn't actually throw him off. He fell off because he kept accelerating, and it couldn't handle the speed anymore.
Gotta love how he barely tries to warn him and knew exactly what was gonna happen.. lmfao
I gave him a full debrief prior to riding. He was well aware
The good old nose dive is a right of passage. You become a better rider after it happens. Respect your board. 🍻
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! 💪
No, you just slow tf down and take the warning seriously.
@@Watchdog_McCoy_5.7x28 those who don’t, must face their fate and live with the consequences of having a bitchin time.
Spoken like a skater
@@jaysonscott187 skinned the shit out of my knee first time bombing hill lmao
"You good?" 😂
Why so many “what a great safety feature” comments? The safety feature is the nose rising but he pushed it back down
Finally someone who has a functional brain👍
It's infuriating how many idiots there are down here
This is exactly how I broke my arm riding a hover board. If it goes to fast it straight up turns off, so the auto balance thing turns off and you fall.
(Wearing no elbow pads.)
(Lands directly on elbows.)
"You good?" XD
How many inventions will they make to avoid just riding a skateboard. We got scooters, hover boards, one wheels...
2250 miles on my pint. I keep it under 11 always. When I started I was cocky. Got it to 21.2mph, and then crashed. Have not gone above 11 since.
For real. I managed to get my pint to 22 mph one time. Didn't crash but it sure was sketchy lol.
I ignored pushback once, never shall I do it again. It took weeks for the skin on my hands to grow back
The amount of people saying they should just program it to slow down hurts my brain.
So.
First, we had cars, with 4 wheels
Then, motorcycles with 3 wheels
Then a more light version with 2 wheels
Now we got a 1 wheel
This means that the next step is those boards that we saw of "back to the future"
That's the hope!
Next 5 year watch there be a no wheel car
Yes, bud
No no no, you got it all wrong
See im from the future and we have these half wheels that have these legs its hard to explain to people from the past
@@sebastionbradford2601 you mean a hover car
This happened to me on my first time! 🤣 People keep asking why it doesn’t slow you down, but that’s not possible so it does pushback to tell you to slow down manually
Happened to me. Fractured my right shoulder, left wrist, plenty of road rash and knocked myself out (not wearing a helmet). Fangs were on order and scheduled to arrive the next day too. Spent my wife’s birthday in the ER. I’m reminded of this poor decision-making event every year 😂
Respect the push back!!!!!
I did this in this exact order and snapped my collar bone. It was fun😂
When someone asks "you good?" Before the pain actually starts
Anytime that happens, the other person is most likely not good.
I hate when people say that and it makes me so mad at them lol because obviously I'm not
@@calebjames7314 me: *falls off the four wheeler and starts crying*
My cousin: you good?
You could see the speed wable for a good long time before he fell.
Don't worry, his wrist braces saved the shaving his arms got
That's one way for self sabotaging: "hey if you go too fast you're gonna get into an accident! Here let me show you how"
The angel on his shoulder said, “watch the pushback.” The octane on his other shoulder said, “faster, faster, faster!!!”
YEAH HEAAA
Haha, nice
"It's OK. I have tattoos. I'm tough."
