    Another brilliant video with a lot of gems - when to use the wrist vs the forearm for the BH flick, waiting for the ball to come to you for the FH flick etc.
    Also, I know you train quite a bit at Samson Dubina and I wish the academy the very best in finding a buyer so that it can continue to produce some of the finest players and coaches in the country. I hope to make it to a camp this year if my employer cooperates.

    Thank you I love your videos straight to the point. I need to add to increase power to the BH flip you have to raise your elbow twist the paddle back as much as you can move your arm like a pendulum and twist your wrest very fast like opening a bottle cap once you touch the ball with the front edge of your paddle. Timing is very important. I practiced it few days ago and tested myself in a tournament, my rating score increased by 74 points.

    Hey Seth, thanks for all the great videos!
    Thinking more about the BH drive but guess the theory is similar with the flip.
    So if the contact point was the same realitive to your body, when you hit a faster ball, you have less time between backswing and ball contact, so you need to start your swing later. Or another way to think about it is wait longer for the ball.
    Of course the reverse applies if you hit a slower shot, start your swing earlier. (for the same contact point)
    This makes so much sense but I didn't realise why I was missing BH drive when trying to hit the ball faster. Thanks again!

  • @mauricetate3571
    @mauricetate3571 Před rokem

    Delaying the backswing applies to most strokes like serve etc.
    Slow balls can give club players issues as their timing goes out. Rushing .
    One strategy plays on this by varying the pace of u returns.

  • @mauricetate3571
    @mauricetate3571 Před rokem

    What I suggest for the backhand is to feel a shake at the end of a short stroke backhand combined with the punch like stroke. U see harimoto do this at times. Shake implies fast relaxed wrist action.
    Another idea. Set robot up 0.6 interval. Crack the ball with spin. Experiment with a slight delay in backswing. U stroke improves even at this pace.
    I like to have the idea to spot the ball onto the racket bit to delay backswing.

    • @PechPongTT
      @PechPongTT  Před rokem +1

      Thank you, I have found it to be faster than Viscaria it has a higher throw less dwell time slightly less spin because of that. It has less feeling I would say but it had feeling for sure. The sweet spot is bigger than viscaria I think because it’s a little thicker. Overall I have loved the change and don’t think I’ll change back.

    Got a few related questions if you feel like answering:
    1) What do you think about playing backhand flip to return almost every serve with a stiga cybershape?
    I don't think it's the best blade for flipping but I wonder if it's viable and I should have this play style or not
    (I played for a long time with both cybershape and FZD ALC and with FZD I know I can flip most serves but with cybershape I'm not sure and afraid to commit to practicing hard on it)
    To be honest the main reason I'm thinking about it is that most of the times in my league matches ppl serve short/medium long side spin to my forehand side and I can deal with it like 70% of the time but still pretty high numbers of time I return a high ball and they smash me :(
    2) I started working on wrist/forearm drills at home (no time for real gym anymore)
    What do you think about these drills?
    czcams.com/video/x7YtlkXq5V4/video.html
    Any advice for more good drills one can do at home?

    Could we get a video about recovery between shots? So many times I find myself following the ball after I make a shot, to see if it lands, rather than getting in position for the next one.

    Step 1, have a good drill buddy.. I'm stuck there. Most players play for themselves and don't want to "give balls" instead they want to make the point (during a drill..!?!!)
    Seth: did you have to overcome the fear of hitting the table when returning over-the-table (short) shots at any point during your development? If so, any tips there? I always end up curling my wrist up in fear of breaking something therefore my loops and flicks (on FH) are atrocious when the ball is short-to-medium

  • @mnguyenxiv

    Do you recommend engaging your right leg (quads or glutes) to add extra momentum when forehand flipping or backhand flicking?
    Additionally, the tip of waiting for the ball to go toward your inner elbow in order to engage the forearm and wrist to forehand flip sounds awesome- definitely have to try. Do you have a similar trick for the backhand flick in order to better gauage and time the flick?

    Hi Pech, at the end of the video you say your forehand is really front and you have to turn your waist , this is what i understand.
    when you try to show the movement of torsion seated on the cheer you move the left arm to the right, but when you play your left arm dont go to the right like you want to catch the ball with the left end . If the left arm remain straight how can yo turn your waist ? so i suggest you to do some esercises they send the balls and you catch it with the left hand , the you do the normal exercise . I hope you undertand what i mean . Thanks

      In backhand or forehand? I would say for forehand it’s important to move into the shot with weight transfer. For backhand it can be difficult if you have a more in-front shorter swing if you have a larger swing and play further away from the table you can really get good weight transfer
