I think the opening scene will be Dorothy and friends walking in to talk to the wizard. I think then they will open the movie with the melting scene that we are all familiar with, and that will lead right into No One Mourns The Wicked
I have to ask two of my fav people…. DID either of you notice that the silver slippers seem to be crafted of little rainbows. The heel of the shoe also looks like a twister.
Now that you mention it, I think that shot of people running through the flowers, could well be the opening shot, these people running into what I assume is Munchkinland or the emerald city, we see everyone celebrating and joyful, we see Glinda float down in the bubble and someone running in the flowers, pauses, looks back and shouts "Look, it's Glinda!" And from there we launch into NMTW. Also if they do replace the engagement party with a wedding, I can see them ending part 1 on maybe an extended version of I'm Not That Girl- Reprise.
31:10 I have a theory that Dorothy will sing to Elphaba. I think she’ll try to apologize like she did in the Wicked book, but in the form of a short song.
Words can not describe my excitement😁Wicked has such a special place in my heart, I remember sitting with my mum on the couch while she tells me a watered down and kid friendly version of this story, watching the show for my birthday, the first live show I ever watched, spending hours under my blanket at night reading the grimoire, it was the start of my snow globe collection this franchise has truly changed me for good, and I can’t wait to watch this movie 😍🥰
Thanks for the breakdown! I do have a few theories on the wedding scene. Your scenario is one, my other thought was this could be Elphaba picturing Glinda and Fiyero together in "I'm Not That Girl" I'm curious how they're tackling Animals vs animals as well, especially since there's been no sighting of Dr. Dillamond and one shot of Cowardly Lion. But even in the Wizard of Oz film we had the Horse of a Different Color who does not seem to be an Animal, so there's a precedent for non-sentient horses in Oz for filmgoers. On the Ruby Slippers, I actually appreciated they went with silver to signal this is more based on the books, both Baum's and McGuire's, for the trailer. But I'd be curious to see if they turn red at any point.
I'm honestly flabbergasted to hear how much of the scenic design was practical. I hope it comes across more when you're watching the actual film, because my first thought watching the trailer was that it looked SOOOO CGI heavy. I'm going to see it and love it I'm sure, but my first impression of Oz was a bit underwhelmed because to me, it had an AI feel. Love the costumes though, and I'm excited to hear the new music, and I'm hoping the look of the movie grows on me.
And tbf, the CGI for trailers is usually an early draft of what it'll look like. They almost always clean up the CGI before theatrical release if they have time to (except for Disney, they're really cheap about it). Wicked was able to begin CGI much earlier than expected because of the actor strikes putting most filming on pause, which is why we were able to see so much in the trailer
I've been waiting for this for 20 years! I fell in love with the books, and the show stole my little teenager heart ❤️. I cant believe it's finally happening!!!
Also, something interesting if the movie does start off on the shot of the hat: the original Broadway production started off on a giant hat, which I think was meant to essentially be a shot like that where the hat sits alone, the witch having been melted. It was cut early on, but it could be a cool reference if they do choose to open that way.
The film opens with a flasback to Kiamo Ko. Dr Dillamond is a guy with dots on his face, not a puppet. Sorry! The same actor also plays Chistery. Yes Elphaba DOES crash the wedding. Dorothy isnt in the film any more than she is in the show. She has no spoken dialogue. Idina and Kristin are none of the roles you suggested, but they are in the film together. The new songs are 'The Girl In The Bubble' and 'There's No Place Like Home'
I'm beyond excited about this movie I got too see it. Im a huge fan of wizard of oz and wicked. I've seen the musical on CZcams probably 100 time's last year in 2023 thanks to American Girl Girl of the year 2023 Kavi she's a theater kid in her story and she loves wicked musical.
First arguably this is the only breakdown that matters imo so we needs them for each trailer. Next as far as what parts of this are from part two? I agree but in a few cases the same scene could be used in both parts even in different context or from a different POV then we saw that scene in Part 1. I'll leave it at that for now since we won't know until both movies drop what we actually saw in this trailer. As far as Dr. D goes I'm going to make a prediction that doesn't gender swap the character & say Joel Grey. This is someone who couldn't have as easily made it to set but obviously done wonders in a recording booth. Whoever it is I just don't want said actor to also have a physical cameo & it was rumored Idina & Kristen did fly to the UK.
Help me please, as someone who's not basically at all familiar with either Wicked or the Wizard of Oz, should I read the book and/or watch the musical before the new Wicked movie comes out? Or would it be better to avoid spoilers, go in blind and only catch up AFTER seeing Wicked?
Definitely watch the musical. The book is far more detailed and much darker, in my opinion. If you have to choose one, definitely watch the musical. It is fantastic. If you want more background, detailed info, read the book too.
I'm terrified for this movie. I love Wicked, and I liked the books. It means so much to me. This has so many red flags of Hollywood butchery on it. Hollywood has proved so many times they cannot be trusted with beloved franchises, I don't want to see that butchery done to Wicked.
I got to see the wicked movie I'm a wizard of oz fan AS you can tell bg my username. I've been watching wizard of oz since I was a little girl. Tinman is my favorite character and I don't know why but now that I'm older i love the tinman because he's so sweet and caring and loving he wanted a heart even though he had one all along though his actions throughout the movie. Okay the back story of wicked witch of the west of wicked is so cool. I've seen a few oz reimagine movies of oz with his back story and then the Muppets wizard of oz and then Rugrats doing a wizard of oz episode. Wizard of Oz is my movie it holds a special place in my heart i was Glinda, Dorothy and wicked witch of the west for Halloween when i was little. I had wizard of oz doll's and a collector wicked witch doll when I was older. Then the happy meal wizard of oz Madame Alexander mini dolls im a huge oz fan so I'm so pumped and right now i need something to look forward to cause 2024 is a crappy year so far
They should change the plot of the movie and the date part one and part two should come out 2024 and I should be the Director of the movie I seen the wicked show on Broadway and in Detroit so many times
I think the story of The Wizard of Oz is so iconic that it really does not need an 'Ariana Grande' to take one of the lead characters. I think the casting was wrong. Distracting and interfering with the workings of my imagination while watching the movie trailer. If anyone can remember the movie with Diana Ross playing the role of Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow will get my drift.
Spoiler for wicked musical Bok gets turned into tinman,Baby Lion cub is cowardly lion and ferio is scarecrow so it'll have them because those 3 iconic characters and Dorothy will be their.
If Jon Chu was smart, he could have paid to use the likeness of young Judy Garland and CGI her face to his Dorothy, then give her a new song in act 2. THAT would be gob-smack!!!! Seeing young Judy Garland again on the big screen singing, WOW!

TEA! Just noticed!!! Thanks for the callout!

people were saying that glinda in the wedding dress could be elphabas imagination during "i'm not that girl"
That’s what I’m thinking as well.

I'm glad this is finally happening
I've waited YEARS and years.
I loooove all your analysis, thanks for doing this !!!❤
Omg Tori I'm so appreciative that you uploaded Oz Talk to CZcams. I missed the LIVE discussion yesterday 💚
This was great and I love the positivity!!! Went on Reddit to see the reaction and everyone is mad about something so this was very refreshing.
I LOVED this conversation!!!!!! More!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I've been waiting for this for 20 years! I fell in love with the books, and the show stole my little teenager heart ❤️. I cant believe it's finally happening!!!
Thanks guys I subscribed I love Oz

love this!!
Awesome reaction of my favorite trailer of Wicked!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
I wish there was a way to bring Liir into the second part
Kristin as her mother would be perfection.
LOVED THIS XX
A wedding switch up would be so fitting in the white dress glinda is wearing

Warner Brothers in Australia Australia is building a set of Wizard of Oz and it’s gonna be open this year
It’s opening back up in Melbourne the wicked
Musical in two weeks time
I’M SO EXCITED!!!!
I'm still processing that extra long final riff....
I know it’s pie in the sky but i would kill to see Vanessa Hooker play Dorothy.
Ok so idk if anyone has mentioned this already,,,, but what if Glindas wedding montage is her version of “I’m not that girl”?
Can’t find the glasses on the site there’s so many… what are they called?
Maybe Glenda in the pink dress in the bubble is her meeting Dorothy
It’s a Warner Bros. theme park and they’re gonna have two rides based on the wicked witch
I think when elphabia says I am to Glinda’s you’re green I think that is the start of what is this feeling ? Any thoughts?
I think it’s before she says she didn’t eat grass as a child

I been dreaming of going to oz since I was little watching original wizard of oz. I'll go by Ruby red slippers
Will we get the transactions of Tinman and scarecrow of them becoming those iconic characters
I really need to know now what is going on with the scarecrow and the tin man! I'm not from the US so I have never been able to watch Wicked :(
💚

The flowers could be Poppy's and it's Dorothy, tinman,Lion and scarecrow running though the poppy flowers
Please post ur original reaction to the trailer ❤❤❤
5:13 Maybe the will open with a dragon flying in the sky then we cut to children running and singing then Glinda flying down.
MY PEOPLE!!! 💚🖤🩷🧹✨

I want all the wicked dolls I want the train
Thank you, great deep dive.
I think Arianna is way too plain. Claydia's arm skin looks lilies it was baked on.
And I would change the cast

I hate all the greenscreen CGI backgrounds it's so soulless and muddy we can't see anything
A lot of it is practical and sets that they built.
Do u really need that long of a intro 🙄
You CAN skip it if you want, you know?
i have 2 ask how MUCH $$$ you were paid by mark platt/universal studio 2 HYPE this 2-helping garbage??!! 🤮🥱😩💣👎
