ABOUT RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN
After long and highly distinguished careers with other collaborators, Richard Rodgers (Composer, 1902-1979) and Oscar Hammerstein II (Librettist/Lyricist, 1895-1960) joined forces in 1943 to create the most successful partnership in American musical theater. Prior to joining forces, Rodgers collaborated with lyricist Lorenz Hart on musical comedies that epitomized wit and sophistication (Pal Joey, On Your Toes, Babes In Arms and more), while Hammerstein brought new life to operetta and created the classic Show Boat with Jerome Kern. Oklahoma!, the first Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, introduced an integrated form that became known as “the musical play.” Their shows that followed included Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Collectively, the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals have earned Tony, Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer, and Olivier Awards. The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization is a Concord Company, www.concord.com.

This song gives me chills, in a good way
I've lived in north Oklahoma for fifty years. I assure you that every word of this great song is true.
So do I but I live in the eastern part near poteau but yes still true over here too 😂
😂
I go to the University of Oklahoma, and they sing this at every public function. They love it!
I love the 8-part Harmony… Absolutely thrilling❗️‼️🎶🎵
The best State Song in the US by a proverbial country mile. A great song that matches a great and yet highly underrated state.
It's definitely high up in the list of best state songs, but I think West Virginia is a solid competitor with Country Roads
A better state song for Oklahoma would be "Okie from Muskogee".
My favorite all American 50s movie. I saw it in the movies as a child, and I never forgot that song. It opened with a burst of color on the wide screen, but for some reason, I remember it with people dancing, so maybe it's in another scene in the movie.
The story behind this song is amazing. The show was mostly done and doing its workout in Connecticut.. The investors came to see it and had drinks after the show in a hotel bar with R&H. They said its nice but doesn't have that one sure fire hit song. They wrote Oklahoma on a bar napkin right there!
I'm Moroccan 🇲🇦 I love Oklahoma state
We're driving across a skinny part of Oklahoma... west of Liberal Kansas. Perfect soundtrack for our drive!
I love the movie I have watched with my mom and dad. Now I'm 50 soon to be 51. I miss the vintage musical.
I’ve only been away for little over a month because I moved due to a job and I’m crying hearing this, I miss my home in Oklahoma 😢
This has to be the most excited lyric video I’ve ever watched.
I totally agree!
yes indeed
I'm Brazilian but I LOVE this musical, and this song! It's so vivid, isn't it?
:)
It goes pretty hard 😂
It’s an exciting song
Literally the best lyric video I've ever seen
I dont know why but this song has been stuck in my head for the last two years. We used to listen to it every Monday morning in elementary school in the auditorium. I find myself whistling and humming to it every day!! haha
This song makes me so happy 😊
I drive my family crazy with it and I’m gonna play it on Christmas
Invite me over for Christmas dinner, and I will sing along with you! 😂 My family doesn't appreciate a good musical.
@@Duke_of_Prunes I FOUND ANOTHER SING TO DRIVE MY FAMILY INSANE!!! ‘Just Ariund the Corner’ from the Addams Family musical!!!
@@ThineLuciferienne 🤣 I went and listened to that song -- it's brutal 👍 Make sure to sing extra loud and off-key.
@@Duke_of_Prunes HAHHAHAHHHH
I live for that chorus
I was born and raised in Oklahoma.
Spectacular!

Best state song ever!
It is the best state song ever, I will admit it even though I'm from Texas lol
"You know we belong to the land..." We have to get along, work out wrongs that have been bestowed, and make America better. Dream, hope, 🙏 PRAY!
This is cool!
Wonderful. I was enraptured.

Love this song!
Oklahoma. Pride 🤘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
We had to sing this so many times at Boys State
This is the official state anthem of Oklahoma? I was surprised to find out that this is actually true. A song written by two people who are not from Oklahoma in the slightest was adopted by this state in the 1950's. Well, I guess it invokes Oklahoma better than any other song they could have chosen.
My school did this musical this year but in 1993 we did Oklahoma so I think it is cool to see the actual one
My fave song from my fave musical! LOVE IT!
Good
Your God damn right I belong to the land of oklahoma
I'm here after reading a fanfic.. wasn't expecting this lol
Whether we admit it or not, every single Okie knows the chorus by heart.
@crasyperson123 I grew up in Carnegie OK and we used to sing it all the time but the song always started right at the Oklahoma part. I never heard those lyrics at the very beginning.
Makes me want to move to OK
I Love OKLAHOMA. I AM FROM AZ .. I DO LIKE Ok ...so ya You need to like Az

Hello sembradora👋👋
State song of Oklahoma
My son wants everyone to know he was born in this state
This actually made me kinda miss living in Oklahoma lol
Wow. Makes me wanna see it now.
Saw this movie on a 2nd grade field trip. Made a happy impression. I just referred to it 3 days ago. Coincidence?
The only reason I'm proud to be born and raised in Oklahoma. It's also fun to watch hawks make lazy circles in the sky.
What about the poor Indians driven from their hunting grounds I'll never except the British white and European who murdered the tribes in Oklahoma and all over Indians lànds.to me USA are the murderers of Indians lands and all world knows it
@@josephmonahan4262 if you learn how to read, I said the musical is THE ONLY REASON I'M PROUD TO BE BORN AND RAISED HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@josephmonahan4262 listen bud how can you hold people accountable for what people did in the 1800s. I have yet to see anyone still alive from the 1800s believe it or not. Now let me tell you this “native Americans” not Indians are very very very sought after in my native state of Oklahoma, towns, county’s, school’s, and restaurant’s are named after native American tribes and not to mention native Americans get funding from the government for the rest of their lives that means the children and their children and so on hell my old high-school Enid highs mascot is a Native American. I don’t know where your from but instead of thinking like a child and basing things off your feeling and think about facts every country on this planet was built on blood and as for Us Oklahomans we will continue to to walk and drive past a statue of a Native American on the way to the boomerang diner and live our lives as farmers, laborers, ranchers, and continue to grow and ship 25% of the world wheat and grains much love from an Oklahoman…….. PS I’m also 52% Native American and we do not care about what happens we learn about it and pay homage to what happened and live on with life people like you are the kind of people who dwell on these things and its people like you who make history repeat itself because you cant let the past go and advance from those times and not make the same mistakes.
oklahoma
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain
I had to watch Twister to find this song
where my Oklahomies at
I'm Okahoman too :)
I’m right here my friend
Right here
1:14 the fact that I live in Oklahoma is crazy and every single part of this song is factual
Yeah
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plains,
Where the wavin' wheat,
Can sure smell sweet,
When the wind comes right behind the rain,
Oklahoma, every night my honey lamb and I,
Sit alone and talk,
And watch a hawk,
Makin' lazy circles in the sky,
We know we belong to the land
and the land we belong to is grand
And when we say, hey! a yippy-i-o-ey
We're only sayin' You're doin' fine Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A,
Oklahoma.
Enid Oklahoma native here, and i remember at assembly’s in elementary school we sang this song, it was a great time, and song none the less. Oki pride!!!
When you have to sing this in School you get tired of it. But it made me smile thinking of singing this..As a black woman I was taught how to Waltz, ok it wasn't so bad. I'm an Okie, but not from Muskogee, Boomer Sooner.
As a native Oklahoman I still get goosebumps every time I hear this song. IMHO it's the best state song of them all. You're doing fine Oklahoma, Oklahoma Okay!
I am leaning this at school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
me too om thats cool
This coment an is replis ar meant to be mispeled
Wonderful arrangement, love this song from the musical! Is the sheet music for this arrangement available?
Literally only knew of this due to a tiny scene in band of brothers
YEOOEOW I YIP ooeoeo AYYY that is the funniest thing I have ever heard
That yeow !! So crisp. Sharp. All those voices. Tight. Outstanding.
This should be a Disney song for a Disney movie filmed in Oklahoma
Just saying
WHERES THE YEOW AT THE END?!?!?!?!??!??!??
I love this
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOklahoma!
"AT LAST! IT'S THE 1948 SHOW!!"
Thumbs up if Classic Sesame Street brought you here!
Oklahoma, ok. This is hilarious. Greetings from overly complicated central Europe.
@Chopper Morton Nothing in Europe is Socialist. You obviously have no idea what that means. Some Scandinavian countrys run off Social Market economys that are designed to give everyone livable income but you have to work the market to get anywhere beyond the bare minimum. Socialism is a type of economy where the government takes over the economy and all private enterprise and everyone gets the same standardized income.
Alan is singing the song with his back in TAAHM.....

Just in case the words are a bit fast for ya!
They couldn't pick a better time to start in life,
It ain't too early and it ain't too late.
Startin' as a farmer with a brand-new wife
Soon be livin' in a brand-new state!
Brand-new state
Gonna treat you great!
Gonna give you barley,
Carrots and pertaters
Pasture fer the cattle
Spinach and termayters!
Flowers on the prairie where the June bugs zoom
Plen'y of air and plen'y of room
Plen'y of room to swing a rope,
Plen'y of heart and plen'y of hope.
Oklahoma,
Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
(And the wavin' wheat
Can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain)
Oklahoma!
Every night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk
And watch a hawk
Makin' lazy circles in the sky.
We know we belong to the land,
And the land we belong to is grand.
And when we say;
Ee-ee-ow! A-yip-i-o-ee-ay!
We're only sayin',
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma, O.K.!
That's on VHS, DVD, and CD.

I prefer" the King and I," but my hippie siblings adored "Oklahoma"
Now we get dumb things like "Hamilton" or "Cats". Last good Broadway musical was "Cabaret".

Who’s here after the commercial?
Most exciting thing Oklahomans do 😐
This isn't the original cast singing. Who are these people? Why is there a key change before the chorus? Why are there two distinctly different fonts being used for the lyrics? This makes me sad to listen to and to read.
Emily Morita it sounds like it might be ripped from the filmed version with Hugh Jackman? So odd.
@@HermioneLMS That would make sense! I wish they wrote who was singing in the description box so we could understand why they chose to upload this video.
@@emilymorita2234 - Please go to the Circle in the Square Theater and get yourself a ticket to Daniel Fish's sensational new production. Broadway and West 51st.
I'm a son of Oklahoma parents and grandparents and I think that version is GLORIOUS!!!!!!!
anybody here cause of Two and Half Men?
This song was in some sense “well written” and the performance “skilled and well rehearsed”, while it’s rise to the culminating chorus is hysterically over the top! White colonialist culture, at a peak. Seems they were subconsciously in part reacting to the fact that Oklahoma has the largest percentage of indigenous native American peoples in the United States. ✨
Trump lahhoma
Negative….. its “Oklahoma” but lahoma is a town in Oklahoma
First
√-1
When you realize this is about stolen Indian territory
Yea i wish the state song was roots to Oklahomas time as the Indian Territories, This song is cute if you ignore the undertones though
A great musical from a state filled with ignorant people!! Good thing the music was written elsewhere!!
):
"Swing a rope"... Sounds like OK was "OK" as long as you weren't Black or Native...
I think they meant like a lasso for catching cattle. Both of the main characters are cowmen. Also, the show was set in 1907 so slavery was long gone. I won’t deny the native thing, though.
Not the original
I’ve only been away for little over a month because I moved due to a job and I’m crying hearing this, I miss my home in Oklahoma 😢
