I am still listening here in 2024 . I am 48 now(bday Dec 2023) and have listened to Chicago through the 80's to current time. The peter cetera and sheff era. I always Chicago( jazz sound, horns, etc) transition ing to more rock music, along love songs in the 1980's. The band started out as the Chicago transit authority (1970, some years before-songs 25-6-2-4,anyone know what it is , Saturday in the park) then shortened the name to Chicago 1980, before. Long time Chicago fan. They don't make music like this since early 1990's( 1993 1994?) Bill Chaplin singing this song and your not alone was very good as well, right up there with peter cetera cetera left Chicago in 1985.
Here in 2024. 48 and will be 49 in May. Whatever happened to music like this with powerful lyrics and meaning behind it? I feel sad for the next generations.
It is one of those songs that needs to be repeated immediately. 👍

I’ll keep listening in 2024
The 1980's are the greatest decade ever!!!
Agreed
The same with the 90s... I spent my Childhood at that decade
A message to the future generations. Don't let this song die.

I dont understand why there is not one single song any more like in the 80
Heart will forever yearn for the 80s
This is music real music
Pure passion . Music like this is a treasure !
Oi rocky, who asked
Absolutely. Love this song. Lockdown January 2021
Completely agree with you
This song is actually really mid; boderline terrible, by Chicago standards. No Cetera, so that probably goes without saying.
A classic 1980’s power ballad. They just don’t make and or sing them like this anymore. The 1980’s were a different and seemingly more simple time period compared to today’s world.
This has always been one of my favorite Chicago songs. They came out with some of the greatest ballads of the 80s. I love Chicago. I’m just sad Jason Scheff & Bill Champlin are not with the band any longer. Great voices!
Bill Champlin did a much better job as a lead singer with power ballads than Peter Cetera. That's because David Foster was the band's producer throughout much of the 80's and Foster heavily influenced the bandmates to hire Champlin after producing a Peter Cetera solo album in which Champlin was a guest vocalist on a couple of tracks.
@@andrewleung6282 Bill was already with the band on 17, their last LP with Cetera.
This song and lock away ( Bill Champlin
its 2023 and I still can't stop listening to this masterpiece of a ballad.
One of them defining Songs that cries 1980s! Underrated but this has gotta be up there with some of the most powerful 80s ballads ever! God bless you Chicago and God bless the 1980s ❤️
Hello dear 👋😊
Amen my dear friend 👍👍
Totally agree this and look away
Such an absolute masterpiece of a song! This is honestly my favorite Chicago song that wasn't sung by Peter Cetera. It's not that I don't like Peter Cetera, I do love alot of his songs, this one's just got a different feel to it. It just seems more hard-hitting and emotional. I love it!
In my opinion I think the 3 albums they did when he left are far greater than the others. They just have that deeper, greater melodic, goosebump touch to them. They really found that sound they were looking for. Similar to bands like Journey, Hall & Oats, The Police, and Foreigner. With Cetera, it's like they were still kinda in the 70s. Like they couldn't get passed that sound like the other groups did. I loved Chicago in the 70s but feel they advanced their sound far greater without Peter Cetera. And Peter Cetera's solo career is in my opinion, when he was at his greatest. He started using different melodies like Chicago and changed his vocals similar to Lou Gramm.
This song is Foreigner-esque song. It doesn't meant this song bad, but it's just feel something is missing. Besides, It's one of the best songs after the Cetera Era.
@@emello4you It seems that you are overlooking Chicago 16 and Chicago 17 (released in 1982 and 1984). Both albums (with Cetera) had changed their sound in a substantial way and were on par with 1982-1984 rock music trends. Still, you are right about Chicago and Cetera after 1985: Both of them looked for new sounds and at least, for the rest of the 80s, they succeeded. Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff brought new and different vocal life to Chicago.
Like AC/DC with Bon Scott verses AC/DC with Brian Jonson?
It's hitting me hard right now. 😟
This song I dedicated to wife, about 35 years ago wer married 34 yrs, and I still Don wanna live without her love❤️💕♥️

One of their [Chicago the band] most underrated songs ever.
So true. I love this song!
Underrated but was #3 at Billboard Hot 100. But they almost never played live.
Not at all. This was very successful , perhaps the other Chicago songs with lead singer Bill Champlin were underrated.
100%
So true good band and song
You almost have to go back to Roy Orbison's "Crying" to find anyone with this kind of commanding high-octane and emotional voice than the effort in this song by Bill Champlin. This Chicago song is a dramatic masterpiece.
Great song, great band. Back in 88'. back to those memories when I was a teen. Great times.....The 80's the best......
Your words make me cry, i feel same as you. Best times, the 80's....
That was a great year.
I was at the same age I loved the music now 2021 still the best music
I was 16 in 88’. Loved this band. I miss the 80’s everyday. Best decade ever to grow up.
Agreed ..to me ‘88 had the best collection of songs ….. ridiculous amt of major hits
This song popped up in my head..and here I am blasting it loud❤
This BAND is Absolutely Phenomenal and Amazing because the music is something we all can relate, understand, aspire to.😌😌😌
There's something about this song and Bill Champlin's delivery that just hits. The lyrics are poignant and mournful at times, clearly talking about regret in how he handled a relationship and working on fixing it with the one he loves. I like this song, have always liked it since I first heard it years ago. It's easy to see why this was a smash hit for the band. I prefer their work during the Champlin era honestly, he was Chicago's best vocalist hands down.
Such a timeless classic. This song will never get old.
I had forgotten about this song and heard it today and opened a floodgate of memories and emotions. Great band. Great song. How did we lose this kind of talent? Now its bullshit with computer gimmicks
This song has you going through it

This is perhaps my favorite Champlin song with Chicago in the eighties. Happy Birthday!!😀🎂🎼🥳

This song had to be in every mix tape in the 80s full of love songs. ❤️ I received a few of those in my day when romance was alive and beautiful.
What an amazing decade for Music and Life!!!💓
Seems like yesterday it was the 80s, to the days we thought would last forever!💕
Song never gets old...power ballad of the 80s
Thought it wouldn't matter
If we didn't stay together,
And if it was over,
Maybe it was for the better.
I was thinking I'd be alright,
'til I thought it all through.
Now I know that I ain't really living
If I have to live without you.
I don't want to live without your love,
I don't want to face the night alone.
I could never make it through my life
If I had to make it on my own.
I don't want to love nobody else,
I don't want to find somebody new.
I don't want to live without your love,
I just want to live my life with you.
Guess I had to go away,
So much I had to go through.
Guess I had to lose you
To realize how much I love you.
Can we make the fire burn again,
Burn a little stronger?
'cause I've been alone, and baby,
I can't be alone now any longer.
I don't want to live without your love,
I don't want to face the night alone.
I could never make it through my life
If I had to make it on my own.
I don't want to love nobody else,
I don't want to find somebody new.
I don't want to live without your love,
I just want to live my life with you.
Oh, if I had to make it on my own,
My life would never be the same,
My love would never be the same.
I don't want to live without your love.

I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG!
I’m 29 and from Chicago and never heard of them before. Let alone never heard this song before. Glad I ran across it. It’s beautiful
I remember fondly when this was released. This was not my dad's Chicago from the 1970s. An 1980s rocker that is sort of forgotten in the late 80s hair band era. The band's live recording of this is superior as they incorporate more of the horn section.

I remember seeing this video on MTV in the 80's
That’s awesome.
Back in the 80s Chicago was one of my favorite bands. The song says a lot. The words are beautiful ❤️
There's so much emotion in the song itself! Says so much! All the memories of yesteryear came flooding in.
This song is so underrated, you’re a legend if you’re still here in 2020💙
It might not be as popular as in its heyday, but it is far from being "underrated". This track was a strong seller for Chicago in 1988-1989, enjoyed great chart success and became a classic by its own right in the early 90s.
