  • Glen was invited by Jay Young of Young Red Angus to speak about what it means to improve soil health at his soil health workshop this last December, in Tribune Kansas.
It seems that skyrocketing fertilizer prices and a decrease in availability have added fuel to the regenerative movement in agriculture. How can we work with the soil to unlock the nutrients that are already there? How can we make a shift and start working with the system instead of against? It all begins with the soil. Glen talks about what it actually means to improve soil health and how important the soil environment is to the biological life within.

I wanna rotate daisy fleabane field to double crop winter wheat, grain sorghum or soybean.(darn i just missed your guarantee during current lecture). Current Daisy fleabane is approx. 5
feet tall from last 3 or 4 seasons. Seems like it Respirates constantly during growing season and gets healthier each growing season in Ks..Dennis

It dose make sense that calcium would be more concentrated the lower you go due to leaching my solution is a diverse cover crop with deep roots to break up the soil to get air deep in the soil profile so that your cash crops roots can access the calcium that has leached plus the cover crop brings up the nutrients when you terminate the cover crops it will bring some calcium to the top when it decays

I've seen soil test results measuring mineral concentrations at different soil depths. Soil type mattered, I dont remember completely but manganese (which has a denity 5 times greater than calcium) concentrations were good at all depths in clay soil but I believe it was at the highest concentration a foot down.
My point is that deeper is not necessarily better, unless it*'s a sandy soil probe to leeching. Plants suck up minerals with the roots. The plants die. Nutrients trinkle back down with rain. It might have been slightly different, but let's say it was around a foot down in clay at least.

Aerobes utilize oxygen.. not anaerobes which are possibly present in soils at lower or very little oxygen concentration. There can be microaerophilic microbes also.

I think it's the case of 'a little knowledge can be dangerous'. The guy is selling something. He's not a soil scientist, doesn't have case studies, just a lot of good ol' boy enthusiam/huckersterism. "Step right up folks, don't be shy! See the Amazing XZY!! Only two bits!"
