Naturehike Cloud Up 2 Upgraded Review - the best all-round budget tent?

- Here is my Naturehike Cloud Up 2 tent review. This 2 person tent strikes the perfect balance between weight vs cost vs quality. For a budget tent, the quality is really good with 20D fabric and alloy poles and pegs. This is a great backpacking tent weighing just 1.5kg. Naturehike tents state weight 1.4kg 'without accessories'.

The naturehike cloud up 2 tent is a tunnel tent design with one entrance and one vestibule where your backpack can be stored. This two person tent measures 125cm wide and 210cm deep with a head height of 105cm.
This 2 person backpacking tent is an inner pitch first. However, this camping tent is so easy to pitch you can erect the tent very quickly in the rain.
Naturehike say this is a 4 season tent. That's probably going a bit far for the UK climate and weather. However, it does have a lot of solid mesh and this backpacking tent has low fly edges too. This means you can sleep without a chilly breeze and the tent won't get as cold as 3 season tents with a lot of see-through mesh and big gaps from fly to floor.
For budget tents I genuinely rate Naturehike tents. My favourites are the Cloud Peak 2 and this tent for all-round greatness.

Great review, very thorough. Thank you for walking through all the components and setting it up. I will definitely consider this for my next tent.
Great tent this. Did the West Highland Way with it and numerous other wild camps. Easy to put up, perfect space, light. Fantastic.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Mine's in the post. Thanks for your reviews on all these tents.. quite excited to see what it'll be like when I go gravel bike packing in the peaks in two weeks..
Thanks for the review; it helped me to decide when looking for reasonably priced tent for bikepacking!
Great videos Andy! love hearing your reviews
Cheers 👍
Brilliant tent, it was my first tent when I properly got into wild camping and used it many times. Just goes to show you don’t always have to spend crazy amounts to have great quality. This and the Cloud Peak 2 are superb value for money. Great video Andy. Would love to do a camp sometime.
Agree, this and the Cloud Peak 2 are probably Naturehike’s best offerings.
I've had one of these for a couple of years and been in some awful weather, never had an issue, great tent. Cheers Andy 👍 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Does the door on the vestibule have the option of opening the door from the top for ventilation when using the vestibule for cooking? Looking at the design, would be serious design flaw if didn't, as cannot see way to vent porch other than having to have the door fully open.
I did a lot of research when I was looking for a new tent. Although not a hiker or wild camper, I was looking for a good value, lightweight set up for my road trips in my little sportscar. Very small boot and I didn't want to be carrying 100kg in the boot while blasting around the backroads 😂 I think it was this detailed review that convinced me that the Cloud Up 2 was ideal for my needs. many Thanks
Cheers!
Great review I'm sold 👍
Subscribed 😉
After watching this review I purchased the Cloud Up 3, has a lot more space and is still only 1.8kg. Can't wait for it to arrive and test it out.
Great bike packing tent bought it expecting to have to upgrade two years on and thousands of miles around UK and Ireland still going strong taking it to Spain, Portugal this year
Great, thanks for sharing!
Just picked this up in forest green, I'm new to wild camping & very excited to take it out for an adventure!
Got two nights in a semi-wild campsite lined up for May to put it through its paces before I venture out into the Welsh wilds. I'm going to be solo camping but I really wanted a tent I can keep all my gear inside, and the 2 just seems sturdier and a better choice overall for a very reasonable weight penalty.
Thank you for the review, you gave me a lot of confidence in my purchase! I'm on a limited budget and was very concerned about being able to find a durable, lightweight shelter in my price range. Overjoyed with my choice!
How has your venture into solo wild camping been and did the cloud up 2 treat you well? I'm currently in a really similar situation to what you were when you wrote this. Just ordered the tent and am booked into a few different semi wild campsites to help me get a sense of solo camping.
Exellent review Andy, always a good watch lad.
Thanks 👍
I have this exact tent and it is fantastic for the price and weight, just did the Coast to Coast with it and it survived a savage wet and windy night in Yorkshire.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Boys I've just paid £112 for the white 20d with the skirts. I can't believe I haven't seen anybody with it. All I did was buy some velcro and some seam seal and now my skirts tuck up inside if I don’t want them deployed. I can have the side facing the wind deployed and the other side open. No condensation, no wind. I've also swapped out the pegging dyneema cord for bungee, using the cord on the zips which makes them catch less, I added the side guys and one to the vent after seeing Trev from Summit or Nothing have his two rear poles get torn out in high wind. The extra guy kept it all in place. I'm also waiting for some toggles to turn up so that I can add them to the side of the inner to attach it to the fly, giving me a few extra inches each side. Once that's finished I'll put my video to show and tell.
I can't belive they sell so cheap. My last one cost more and this one is the improved one... very strange. Maybe I just got lucky.
Nice review!! I’m just starting out, so will definitely consider this tent! Just got to get the bottle to commit to the first camp 😜
How did you get on?
Yup, that's a fantastic tent. I recommend that one to any budget backpacker.
100% agree. It ticks so many boxes!
I bought this tent the other year just before I had a stroke. Never got to use it. Sold it and hope the new owners get good use out of it.
I’m hoping to get out again next year. Theses a group that do disability scooter rambling and camping. I know I can hammock camp so that would be cool. My scooter has a 20 mile range so can get about. Hear in cornwall theses a growing list of scooter friendly walks.
hope your road to recovery is going well mate 👍 best of luck
@preacherbear hi where can I find out more about these groups please?
I’ve had seven strokes from a TBI. I’d recommend swimming in the shallow end and chair yoga, get out in future too. I’m a decade post stroke and stopped using the walking stick 4 years ago. Keep going bud, don’t let it stop you!
Hope you are doing well!
Excellent review!
The color itself sold me. I want one.
Had the orange version of this tent. Did amazing on The West Highland way. Not long upgraded to a Cooper spur ul2. Nice beginner tent. Loving the extra space of my new tent though.
I love Big Agnes tents but I’m always worried they’ll be too cold. How are you finding it?
@@BackpackingUK Only used it for the first time last Friday, Was really good and was toasty warm ( Was only about 8c ) there again it was not that cold. Heading out again next Friday so will update then.
I had the CloudUp1 a short while ago and I found that the light weight came at a trade off. I tried to use it in winds of up to (guesstimate) 15mph and all it wanted to do was flap over and lay down. It's left a bitter taste in my mouth with them now and I doubt I'd get one again unless for calm weather.
I've seen Islander outdoors use his loads, he did a good review as well. look like good tents
I'll check his channel out!
Remember you can pitch outer first too. But Andy knows how much I swear by this tent 👍
Yes, you just need to use the groundsheet / mat. Similar to MSR tents.
Why do you swear? Whats wrong with it?
@@Gyhama nothing wrong with it. It’s a great tent.
Hi Andy, awesome review, cheers mate. I'm always hunting and researching great budget backpacking tents, I then found the Helm 1, I absolutely love it, rather than get the Helm 2 as well I thought I'd try a different midrange brand, Naturehike being one of them. Funny thing is, every Man and his Dog raves about the Cloud Peak 2, I much prefer this! This will be in my Arsenal too!
I’ve got the Helm 2 mainly because of the extra head room. How do you find the Helm 1?
@@BackpackingUK I love the Helm 1, it was a tough choice between both and finally went for the 1. I love it for pack size and weight. To be honest, I researched a lot until I brought it. I wanted to try a 1 Man tent and looked at a ton of ''coffins'', this really stood out as a 1 Man tent with actual space! I'm still amazed at the design and space for a 1 Man tent, at my mid range budget I couldn't find anything better. I'm 5''8 same as you and my head is nowhere near the top. Its perfect.
Thanks for the review. If you would have to choose between this tent and Decathlon Trek 900, which one would you choose?
I have the same one. I can't compare It to others beacuse Is my first tent, but for me Is very good. For 130 euros Is perfect. Bye from Italy.
Just bought this for the Laugaveger Trail in Iceland as my UL non-freestanding is just too expensive to risk with the wind when staking out is not ideal. Was looking at other tents 3x as expensive as this one initially but am really happy with my decision...the multiple guyout points and being freestanding sold me because wind in Iceland can be brutal and the ground isn't always conducive to getting tent stakes into the ground. Can't believe such a well-priced tent comes with proper aluminum poles and decent stakes...most expensive tents don't even come with good stakes. I went for the navy blue version with hopes of helping sleeping during the midnight sun
Thanks for sharing!
Nice looking tent. It would be interesting to see the 1 man next to it for comparison and also pack size as you said it's nearly identical
The Cloud Up 1 is a slightly longer tent and I think that’s why the pack sizes are so similar.
Thanks. I was trying to decide between 1P & 2P. My biggest problem with the 1P is the single pole at the foot end. So it isnt really freestanding, you need to stake the foot out for leg room.
Great review video as always but the tent is now listed at 1750grams still light for a 2 man 4 season tent although same as my old lightwave single man 4 season tent
Thank you for this review. Question: I see a camp-chair in the back. What brand/ model is it ?
Nice review quality tent I sell them in the uk , they are 1540 g without the footprint, still very good 👍
Thanks for sharing. I don’t know why all sites can’t just state the REAL weight! I normally weigh the tents myself to double check but I didn’t get around to it this time.
@@BackpackingUK I know always to make it look lighter! Any way spot on fella , I’ve msg you on insta about the new Flextail Tiny X2 pump👍
I think most sites remove the weight of the pegs, not really sure why they do this.
Great review 🎉
I got the lightgreen 20D version of this tent during black friday. Bang for your buk!
I believe they have an outer sheet version with flaps for winter season.
I’ve got the Vik with flaps. They’re a total waste of time so you bought the right one 👍
Does this have a 2-way zipper to vent the porch when cooking with the outer door shut ?
Spent a night in Italian alps (Val Masino) in this tent with heavy rain and thunder 3 days ago. No problem at all
Hi! Thanks for the review! I am currently looking for a backpacking tent and I've also seen your review of Decathlon MT900. Which of those two you think is better?
They are both very different. Personally, I like tents with 2 vestibules so the MT900 would be the one I would go for.
Thanks for the great review! I've been trying to figure out the max length of the tent poles when folded - I'm trying to figure out if they will fit in the frame bag on my bike! Do you have they handy to measure please?
Sorry, it's buried in my loft at the moment!
How is it when putting up in the rain? It look much harder work to pitch than any of my tents which have fly and inner combined.
Thank you for the great video.
It looks like a stunning tent.
My only observations are that I honestly dont think a "4-seasons" tent would have so much mesh on the inner.... maybe none at all beyond the vents.
You simply cant control the air flow through the tent if you have open mesh.
I have this cracking little budget tent that dominates most of the year.... but because the upper half of the inner has mesh like this... you haemorrhage heat. Plus every time a sidewards gust comes, it clips under the outer, through the mesh, and floods the tent with cold damp air.
I think its a cracking tent, but I think a 4 season really needs a thermal barrier between the inner and outer.
Any suggestions for a real winter tent? I’m honestly tired of looking
@@pedroclaro7822 Ive heard that the Vango Hydra and vango helvellyn are pretty good budget 4 season tents mate.
@@TheWtfnonamez both seem pretty good! And I like the green for wild camping. Tysm

@@BackpackingUK welcome
Great video, mate! But a bit misinformed. The 20d version(the one you got) is 1.87kg with pegs and footprint. Not 1.4kg.
I’m fairly sure mine is less than that. It’s 1.5kg exc footprint (I changed the thumbnail but couldn’t change the video).
Question: That looks like a lot of mesh for a 4 season, is it not cold and drafty ? OR is that to get rid of condensation because the outer sides are close to the floor?
Good question. I guess it’s a bit of both. Ultimately there is a choice of warmth and condensation or cold and dry! This is more of a 3+ season tent as it has a fairly low fly, lots of solid mesh but still some ventilated mesh too.
Hey Andy! Thanks for the review, it was super helpful. Have you by any chance weighed the tent, accessories and the footprint yourself? I've been thinking about this tent for a little while but it seems like the weight is quoted differently everywhere I look
It’s literally the only one I didn’t (at the time). Excluding footprint it weighs just over 1.5kg.
@@BackpackingUK legend, thank you!!
thanks a lot for your fresh and motivating videos!
1. Does this cloud up 2 tent weighs really only 1.5kg with the footprint and the tent pegs?
2. I have seen in a video that it is possible to stretch the side-walls of the tent to the exterior to creat more space in the interior of the tent. Is this truely possible?
The footprint is extra 👍
O fancy this tent now Andy not bad price either
It genuinely is a cracking tent.
thank you for this review
have you checked out the much cheaper and easiest tents to set up F1 or F2 french army tents...??
they offer much more room for less than £50.00
I’ll have to check them out 👍
They are good for going on the back of the motorbike I've got the 3 it's not that much bigger pack size and loads of space for kit.
Yes, the pack sizes are really small for each size tent when compared to other tents and brands. This makes them perfect for backpacking, bikepacking and motorbike camping.
Hi Andy, how would you say this compares to a Lanshan 2? I've been considering both on my quest for 2 person backpacking tent. Enjoy your channel. 😁😁
It’s totally different but they’re both excellent value tents!

Is there any way of pitching this outer first? I love it other than inner pitch first
Probably my but you’d have to use the ground mat.
Thanks for the review. This reference to $119 on sale - that's just for people outside of UK/EU, right? I cant see any option to ship to the UK from your link to naturehike's website - and the amazon UK is just rip-off Britain (at least compared with the $ price). Can you tell me if I'm missing something, please? Thanks again.
Just read this…
We can ship to 72 countries including the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Germany, Italy, Poland, etc.
Note: Due to website reform, we can only ship to the United States, Australia and Canada at present, and other regions are temporarily unable to ship.
Hopefully it’s just a temporary glitch.
@@BackpackingUK Thanks very much again. Great review. A friend's heading to the US next week so ordered for $119 and got it shipped to his hotel. All good!
Nature Hike doesn't seem to have any presence in UK and according to their website warranty is limited, customer has to pay for any returns, and sent items back to China.
How's your experience with after sales service?
Have you actually weighed this tent? You say it's 1.4kg, is that with footprint, pegs and guylines? If you're going off what Naturehike state on their website then they don't include footprint, pegs or guylines in with their weight. Can you clarify please?
No, the weight doesn’t include the footprint, I’m not aware of any brand that includes the footprint in their tent weights.
Just tested the updated cloud up 3 and its my first ever tent and so far so good!
Was a bit of a struggle because am a complete noob but after watching a vid was up within 30 mins.
P.s Am looking forward to doing a trial run maybe next few days. (I took it down as had other things to do)
Cost me £120 ish.
Great choice of tent. Once you get the hang of it you’ll have it up really quickly!
@@BackpackingUK Yeah its the getting back into bags the hardest but got time for a few trial runs.
Next stage is getting everything safely secure onto motorbike.
Andy please can you review some alpkit tents?
Yes, I keep meaning too. I did the Aeronaut but that’s a long time ago.
only complaint I have is that you need to crawl in and out which at a certain age is quite uncomfortable.
Apart from that I find it great for the price.
Hello. I'm looking at Mongar and Cloud Up 2 models. I am looking for a lightweight tent that I will generally use in the spring months and carry with a bag. Which one would you recommend?
The Mongar has a lot of see-through mesh so I’d say it’s more of a summer tent.
@@BackpackingUK The cloud up model can be used in other seasons and is a lighter tent. So, is there a serious area difference between them? There can be serious differences even in different colors of the same model. That's why I wanted to ask.
Довольно основательный обзор. Походу надо на Al•Express заглянуть.
Maybe have a look on camperlist website brought a nature hike tent from them last year fairly cheap compared to other places.
Yes, Camperlists are excellent too.
Stop repeating the name of the tent!!!! lol Nice review and looks a fantastic budget tent.
SEO 😂
Would you recommend this if I’m just doing some normal camping and I don’t need to worry about the weight?
I’d probably go for the Cloud Peak 2 if weight was not a concern.
Hi Andy I bought the Blackice 700 down sleeping bag on your recommendation. I was tempted to get the 1000 with a comfort rating of minus 15 I think it said, but that was 500g heavier so I thought I could buy a sleeping bag liner. Can you recommend any of those? I have one at the moment but I think I got it from Aldi years ago and it just feels like it's made out of pillow case material. Really thin. I've not received my sleeping bag yet, it's still on its way
I’d try it out first. It genuinely is really warm. However, if you want a liner I use either the OEX liner or the OEX Thermolite liner.
@@BackpackingUK thanks again for your advice Andy. You are amazing
Seconded on the oex thermolite. Same material as the sea to summit but half the price
@@Fellmandave1 thank you I'll check that out
@@BackpackingUK I can find the oex furnace liner, but nothing called thermalite. Am I being thick? Please could you provide a link so I don't buy the wrong one
how would you compare this to the jackal 2? i have the jackal, but want a lighter tent, i can sit up in under £450?
To be honest it’s a totally different tent. Much lighter, freestanding, more compact packed size but the downside is it’s smaller inside.
@@BackpackingUK I'm happy to go smaller as long as I can sit up in it, I'm the same height as you, but I want that sitting comfort, which is what's putting me off the likes of the starlite or the laser compact
Hi - would thi stent be good for a 6'3'' person and has wee dog to sleep in? Thanks
You would be close to the maximum but I think you’d be ok.
@@BackpackingUK thanks for getting back to me. Food for thought.
Hi Andy, love the videos as always.. just revisiting this one as considering buying this tent. Any other recommendation with a similar budget that you might recommend?
This is really on it’s own. Other tents of a similar price are too different. That’s partly why it’s so popular.
Can anyone tell me why the dark green Cloud Up 2 is £45 more than the same tent in any other color
Probably because it’s the one everyone wants! In all seriousness, Naturehike use different materials and the 20D nylon fabric ones cost a bit more.
Looks good but Im not sure how easy this would be to pitch on top of a fell while its hammering it down and blowing a whooly
This tent isn’t that great in the wind. The additional guy points are a welcome addition but it’s still not going to be your first choice of tent for summit camps!
Hi I just ordered this for my son, I was rushed into it without fully researching it and ended up ordering the cheaper 20t version, it will still be o.k tho right?, I do go mostly in fine weather, also he is 6 ft 3, is it long enough for him to fit lengthways?, cost £100
The main difference will be it’s slightly heavier due to the extra weight of the material. I believe the rest is the same 👍
@@BackpackingUK thanks for the quick reply, I’m off on my first Wild camp of the year tomorrow on the SW coast path in N.Devon, will be first time using the Helm 2 compact, can’t wait, really excited
Great review. Just tried to order one direct from Naturehike. Shipping not available to the UK.😔

Hopefully it’s just a temporary glitch. However, you can still purchase from Amazon.
Reminds me of the Alpkit soloist.
Great review. Is it 1.4kg or 1.8kg? Says the latter on Amazon...
Make sure you’re looking at the 20D version 👍 Often Amazon shows mega bargains but they’re the lessor 210T fabric.
I bought one and wished id bought the cloud peak 2 as its too small for two people.
What are your thoughts on this Naturehike cloud up 2 vs the OEX jackal II please?
The Cloud Up 2 is half the weight and pack size. It's also much easier to pitch. However, the Jackal is better for 4 season use and is roomier. If you're buying the Jackal for backpacking use you need a big bag!
@@BackpackingUK hmmm... choices, choices. The Cloud Up sounds perfect for backpacking/longer hikes as weight is so important, but on the flip side the jackal is more versatile of course. Is the vestibule on the jackal a lot better would you say? And thanks for replying!
@@BackpackingUK also I just thought, I wonder what's better between the cloud peak and the jackal. 🤔 Again the vestibule looks bigger on the jackal and it's cheaper but seems the one pay off is it's bigger and heavier.
Why is dark green the best, I'm curious what difference the colour makes?
It’s a UK thing 🇬🇧
UK have forest? :)
Please could you do a review on the cloud up 3 please?
The cloud up 3 is exactly the same. The number shows what person tent it is for.
Ain't the 20d cloud up 2 version 2.2kg? I think cloud up 1 is 1.5kg
You’re thinking Cloud Peak 2 👍
I can’t decide between this and the vango banshee 300, any thoughts on which one i should choose?
This is much lighter! Depends if you’re backpacking far and have the pack space?
@@BackpackingUK I have the space, my only concern with the nature hike is putting up the inner first, as you know it can be often raining in the UK haha
@@BackpackingUKare there any other backpacking tents you would recommend in the same price range? Other than these two of course
The Cloud Peak 2 and Helm 2 are great tents for UK weather. I'd say they're 3+ season.
I always pinch 2 tents when I go camping.
What's the diference btw 20D and 210T exactly? Cheers
20D is a lighter and a higher quality material. The 210 version will definitely be cheaper.
Thanks! But I think that, on both of them, you have to start with the inner part first. If so, that is not so good on rainy days... I'm I right?
Why is the dark green color the best?
Best for blending in 👍
I couldn't understand the difference between the upgraded version. Should I buy 20D or 20D Upgraded?
They must be the same, they were upgraded a couple of years ago.
It seems like it would be a bit of a faff if trying to put up in wind or rain . Would the tamar 2 not be a better choice
will a cot bed fit on it?
Sorry, I don’t use them so I wouldn’t know 🤷🏻♂️
Can you pitch the outer first if it's raining?
In theory, yes, with the groundsheet. I'll be a bit of a faff though.
@@BackpackingUK thanks Andy. I've been binging the videos and torn between the cloud peak 2, nebula 2 or just go with a banshee 200 to get into some camping on Dartmoor next year. Your videos have been really helpful.
How long do you think it takes to set up, please?
5 minutes max. It’s stupidly easy. Allow maybe another few minutes just to get the guy lines right.

Where was that?!?!
Lovely tent, It's just a shame it's an inner pitch first, so stressful in wet conditions
It’s not inner pitch first, can easier do outer first. Done it many many times
Because the mat has eyelets, it’s possible to pitch the poles, then the fly, then the inner. A bit more fiddly but it can be done. Similar to MSR tents when you use their groundsheets.
