Ren went full Shiva in this one. "Kill these metaphors I write, to all attachments in the life." He's letting us know at once that this is both metaphor and genuine representation of dark feelings (albeit turned up to 11.) But that also rebirth is possible: "Kill yourself and kill your karma, kill samsara (suffering, which he knows a lot about,) to finally, "reincarnate, reach nirvana," or ultimately step outside of ego entirely and end suffering.
The hip-hop references are crazy. He even uses them to circle back to the title of the song: "Bring the pain and turn it back around." Method Man, but then turn it back to himself because he's a masochist. Almost like he's telling us that he knows that his own hate hurts him the most.
Even the "Eenie meenie minie Mo-hammed, sting like a bee," is hurtful and ultimately self-harming. Ren clearly idolizes Ali. That saying is deeply racist in origin, which Ali would clearly know due to his activism. I would be that Ren knows that as well, and that it was a deliberate slap in the face to someone he respects. The layers on Ren's stuff, even when superficially off-putting are just insane.
This comment gets a gold star 🌟
Pinning this comment, thank you for helping everyone with a deeper explanation
@@xFayze Wow, thanks, these were some of my thoughts on this song after I started to deep dive in after the first listen, but I think they're probably still just scratching the surface. That's what makes Ren so fun to me. Hope everyone else has a great time digging through this one.
@xFayze thanks for your balanced analysis of Ren's stuff. He's so special that it's easy to cross over into fanboy territory, so appreciating it while also walking a line of neutrality is great.
I disagree with his intentional use of Eeny Meeny as a slap at Ali. He’s used it before (murderer) and for me is more in tune with his constant use of nursery rhymes in his songs rather than any historical use of the saying. The rest of your analysis seems pretty spot on though.
@@CreativePhotoWS that's a great point. It could be both though.
Ren said it’s all a metaphor. He wrote this in a dark time with the breakup with his label and his illness
Ren posted this yesterday: I expected a split reception on masochist, I'm glad I got it I wrote the song on a day in 2021 I felt particularly bitter about living in a sick body for most my life, about anger at the greed in the music industry. Killing everything you know, even your support systems is also about rebirth, some people will have caught the Samsara line and see a man cursing the gods for the hands hes been dealt, others will see it as a track that’s just being vulgar and dark for the sake of it. It's all of those things.
Ren is a Renaissance Man -- a true gift to the art of being Human.
What Ren wrote on his Community tab:
“Masochist - Deriving pleasure from self pain. A song about killing off all your support systems and one that a lot of your fanbase aren’t gonna like which hurts your support in a literal sense because it hits on certain societal taboos, and enjoying seeing the reaction because it’s an assault on established dogma - Masochist.”
And also posted this: “I expected a split reception on masochist, I'm glad I got it I wrote the song on a day in 2021 I felt particularly bitter about living in a sick body for most my life, about anger at the greed in the music industry. Killing everything you know, even your support systems is also about rebirth, some people will have caught the Samsara line and see a man cursing the gods for the hands hes been dealt, others will see it as a track that’s just being vulgar and dark for the sake of it. It's all of those things.”
On twitch Ren said he wrote this on a day he was dealing with the pain he still has and feeling frustrated. It’s metaphorical.
I can identify but because I’m not a poet let alone a rapper so I scream 😱 😂. What I took from it is that I can have a bad day and recover from it just like Ren. He is a joy💗. Great reaction ❤ ✌️
It seems to me that Ran is invoking the force of Kali, the Hindu embodiment of the power of destruction. She's often depicted wearing a necklace of human skulls. Re-birth and re-invention follow her destructive acts.
Its Ren's ren-ovation, rebirth, letting go, cursing all life to get it out of his system, and it's so good! Love that Ren is so self confident he can express whatever he feels through his music, add a sic beat and production and rap the message home🎉😊
Loved it
Diva is beautiful!!
That the title is "Masochistic" when lyrically the actions described are those of a sadist is a clue to the metaphor for me.
OJ...BEAT the court case. This goes with previous line ...sting like a beat.
Love it, love it, love it !!!
ending (killing) all attachment is the goal of a great many philosophies,. this is like a zen slap.
freedom is only attained by being free of all attachment, all words are metaphors.
Love the line, "take the curve of the earth and I flatten it". A lot of reactors are getting hyped by that line. 😅
But it's like... kill science to what end? Sometimes we just like tearing things down I guess.
That's very well said
Great reaction, 👍
Thank you ❤ @xFayze for this Ren reaction. A dark song and yet it is one of my favorites !
Diva is gorgeous! Ocicat, yes? It's all metaphorical, written in rage when he left his toxic management team a couple years ago. But to me it's also "when you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him." Ren's profound even when he's not aiming to be. And can the man write unique bangers or what?!!!
Agreed! And Diva is a Bengal cat, if I ever have to cut a video in future reactions, it's because she's probably doing Bengal things to get my attention. Like talking super loud or sitting on my mouse so I stop hanging around the computer 😂😂😂
Great reaction! You made me laugh. About who we are supposed to kill. So confusing, indeed! 😂
Super deep. Kill ALL Attachments in this life. Pop the red pill.
Love it
Ren is siiiiiick! This track is such a nasty banger 🔥 Pretty sure the RENegade will follow this pied piper down to the dark depths of his rabbit hole even if he is wielding a knife instead of a pipe 🐰🕳️ 🗡️🐐 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀 Lucky he has found music as an outlet for all his frustration and anger 😅
I try to always introduce myself to the new creators and reactors I watch. I deeply appreciate you sharing your thoughts your opinions and your time. Your reactions and videos are part of what helps make my day brighter.
Thank you for introducing yourself and the kind words. Those, in turn, brightened up my day as well!
It was written over 2 years ago
That's crazy to me. How much music is he sitting on?
@@xFayze THOUSANDS of tracks according to Ren! And he has said recently he'll be releasing more music this year than ever before :D
💥
If you rewind, after pausing, you won't miss anything. It's frustrating watching reactors miss brilliant lyrics, flows, transitions and epic delivery, by not doing so.
I personally think it's mankind has killed everything?
Man killed Christ on the cross!
Not Ren!
Man is killing everything!
❤❤❤
🔥🔥🔥✌
❤🙏❤
Catch the Zen man. Masochist, self-harm. Philosophy, release all attachments in life and seek enlightenment (Nirvana). Die and reincarnate, Samsara. Read deeper man, ur not hearing the message. Kill all attachments in this life. Seek Nirvanna. He doesn't feel real in his skin; u must know somebody like that. Watch again. The message is profound once you hear it. It didn't feel like Ren? Yeah, he says that. Could it be Ren? Nah nah mate.
Ren said wrote this in 2021 he had bad day and in bad statue of mind he don' really mean this
First off, hello lovely Diva!
In answer to your question, I think, like all Ren songs, you need to dig through for the meanings. Interpreting Ren songs can be a bit like peeling an onion and much of it depends on how it hits the listener. From what Ren said, he was dealing with a bunch of issues when he wrote this and he was trying to get feelings out in a healthy way, so for him, it sounds like it was meant to be cathartic.
why does no one ever catch the Biggy flow?
something 😅
I'll take it 😂
i thinkh this is ren reacting to you tube reaction people taking every word he says as gospel.
Like I said, even if I was trying to listen to him, I lost track of who I'm supposed to be killing 😂😂😂. Jk, but yea just seemed like one of those where you don't take it seriously or literally
@xFayze ren said he had some dark music coming. This is the first taste I think. Might be a few more coning
I hate this condescending 'he rap rapped' and 'can he rap rap?' attitude of some reactors. Especially as Ren probably knows more about rap than most of the reactors and commentators making such patronising remarks. Ren can rap with the best of them and has proven so again and again. The fact that Ren sometimes mixes rap with non-traditional rap genres should be neither here nor there, even if it does confuse or upset some stuck in the mud or narrow-minded people. Is Ren's writing good? Always and it's frequently world-class! Can he rap? Yes, brilliantly! His delivery, flow, cadence and frequent rapid changes of all these things puts him a cut above 99.9% of the rappers out there, as does his writing. Yet we still hear the tired old cliché, 'can he rap rap?'.
I feel what you're putting down. The sense in which I meant it was there's different kinds of rap. Melodic rap, drill rap, backpack rap, etc. So when I say rap rap, I moreso mean an OG kind of rap where the focus is in the delivery, the rhymes, and the syllable count. I don't mean it in any demeaning way simply referencing a specific type of rap. Same way that I could say Ren can sing, or Ren can write
So you can CRITICIZE, criticize! Just fucking with you. I hate it when the first thing reactors say about Chinchilla is her nails are SOOOO long (and that Ren looks like a Peaky Blinder.)
@@yonahgrossman7319 I think I said that he looked like Tommy Shelby on my first or second reaction... fuuuuck 😂
Oh, you FUNNY, funny. @@xFayze
