I felt so much sympathy for Lita when this episode first aired. She became my favorite after knowing her story. Now watching this clip, and hearing the Rainy Day Song again, I feel the exact same way for her as I did 19 years ago.
When you hear the whole story in japanese... it punches in the feels. The reason Makoto/Lita is so good at domestic chores is because she does them all herself, as she lives alone. Both her parents were killed in a plane crash. It's one of the reasons she transferred schools and people thought she was a delinquent The only real clue you ever get to see she has issues with planes is once where she flinches because a plane is flying overhead. (She seems to get over this later after becoming Jupiter as she joins the other girls on a private plane to meet the Starlights :D)
For those who are curious as to why Lita is giving blood to Ken, Ken got knocked into a concrete ditch by a lion from the Negaverse and lost half of his blood volume. Being the great friend she is, Lita decided to give blood to him.
I prefer the censorship to be honest. A show marketed to kids didn't need all of the pervy stuff that only dirty old Japanese men seem to need to be entertained.
Legitimately y'all it's been, what, like twenty-five years and I FINALLY made it to this episode in the "better" English dub and I am CRUSHED they used another song!!!
This makes me want to cry for two reasons: 1) The scene's heart-felt moments and 2) because I miss days when I watched this show. Those were good times.
Makoto/Lita is forever my favorite of all the scouts, I actually didn't like her at first but it's moments like this which helped give me a broader perspective. Yeah, seeing her crying saddens my heart each time.

Who wouldn't want to be her rainy day man? A real tomboy who would beat up any boy that stepped to her or her friends, but she was also so very feminine ~ with her rose earrings and love of cooking meals for her crushes. Very strong outwardly and emotionally fragile inside. She was the most complex of the inners to me ^_^ It sounds like SM made a positive impact on you tbh!! Couldn't be anything cooler than a man who so openly adores his woman, builds guns, trains to fight terrorists and yet all while listening to the Saillor Moon english ost soundtrack in the background. ^_^ I officially stan.

This scene was really good and the song was also great too. Lita is my favorite character of sailor moon. Even though the dic dub of sailor moon had censorship, edits and changed scenes, it still had a great soundtrack. And it's sad that lita's friend only appeared in this episode and after that he's never mentioned again.

Oh man, this really brings memories back. I forget how I found Sailor Moon but it was my first anime exposure. I was in 7th grade and I remember I would watch episodes on UPN right before going to school. Funny how I still remember the melody and lyrics after all these years.
When younger, we had a satellite dish. Middle of the night, I'd get all the next weeks episodes one after the other. Along with Teknoman! These two are still my benchmark.
I remember that bit just before this, before they were saying ‘he’ll need a transfusion right away’ and that they didn’t have enough type O and Lita said that she has type O blood, that there was a pool of blood around Ken after he’d fallen from that ledge from being attacked by the lion. I was surprised that they showed that amount of blood in the show. ^^
I wanna go back to the 90s I'm tired of 2021 it's hard out here and this show in the 90s made everything so much simpler this day and age nothings the same and people forgot so much what it means to be human
I'm an original Japanese purist of Sailor Moon. However, as much as I hated a lot of what the DiC English dub did, this scene has always stood out as actually BETTER than the original. The original song that played (Makoto's R season image song) was nice, but this was much more dynamic and it was in English so it had much more impact. The only thing is lyrics-wise, it doesn't really do much - it emphasizes a character (Ken) who never appears again and it's about the rain in that scene only.
There's way more build-up and mentioning of "the guy who broke her heart" in the viz dub and yet you get to this episode and honestly, the viz dub falls flat. The song is just not powerful enough, this one is so much better. It really conveys the feeling of how she felt and the fact someone existed who cared she felt so horrible at that time.

Everyone talked about Kenny getting put in the friend zone but: A) Maybe he’s ok with having SAILOR FRIGGIN JUPITER just as a friend. (Wouldn’t all of us?) B) If he was the kind of douchebag that was following her around with an umbrella and dropping hints that he expects something more out of it, Lita would have picked up on that and wouldn’t have such affection for him. Women don’t respect creeps like that.

This is a slightly different version than what was on the first compilation album - instead of a guitar we hear a spiky, acoustic piano…sounds like it’s from the Korg M1, which was used to oblivion in 90s pop and dance music.
I Have absolutely NO qualms about admitting being a huge Sailor Moon fan back when it aired in the U.S., and this song has always stuck in my mind as one of my favorite parts of the whole series.

I honestly like elements from both versions of this song. The one in the show has some cool Charlie Burchill-esque guitar playing, and the album version lush with synths that ultimately make it sound fuller.

Man...this is so sad..I LOVED this show..the music, the story, each girl's life story and background and how they bond..crazy how good japanese animes are..but they take the time to make good music and create good stories for them...not like the cartoons Nickelodeon and Cartoon network put out, except Avatar the last airbender...that's pretty much the best US anime ive seen
