  • Sargent have provided me with their new CAN Bus enabled DC/DC Charger or Battery to Battery, to go with my Power Queen LiFePO4 (LFP) battery.
    This is so I can charge the LFP battery properly, boosting my off grid capacity.
    In this video I film installation in our new Swift Kon-Tiki 784 at Todds Motorhomes and discuss the benefits of LFP batteries and how DC/DC chargers work.
    CAN Bus stands for a Controller Area Network, similar to a LAN in computing, but it connects Electronic Control Units together in automobiles, in this case, connecting the DC/DC Charger to the Swift Control Panel.

    Interesting video Bob. It does seem like Swift and Sargent are developing their systems to incorporate lithium setups but I really don’t understand why it’s not a standard feature when you consider all vehicles now have smart alternators that really don’t work well with standard leisure batteries and they are aware of this.

      Yes, hopefully Swift will be taking notes and that will be changing soon!

    Bob I noticed your vehicle battery was still charging your leisure battery through the B2B when it was only 11.7v. I have mine set to 12.5v in order to prevent draining the vehicle battery.

      It is set to reduce the charging current depending on the vehicle battery voltage. At vehicle voltage

    Interesting in detail. Not an easy install.

    Just put pure sine wave 3000 watt inverter into our Motorhome with 500 amp hour of lithium and lots of solar . Which means we can run everything-off grid through the 240v sockets including the ac and microwave. Getting pretty common over here Captain 👍🏻

      We too , lots of solar 700 watts, 2x 135 lithium, 1600 inverter/charger plus b to b. We full-time, even through the winter couldn't get below 75 %.

      No, I'm afraid not. The DC\DC charger will be on sale shortly.

    Hi love the videos what was the reason for doing this

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Před 13 dny

      So I can use a LFP battery and charge it properly, boosting my off grid capacity. Also to highlight the new DC/DC CAN Bus charger from Sargent.

      Hi Bob, enjoying the channel as we move from an Auto Sleeper Bourton to a Kontiki 774. Can I confirm this is how to remove the supplied lead acid battery, replace it with the latest lithium 100 amph battery and ensure the alternator can charge the lithium correctly and safely. So, in short I don't need to change all the cables and add a raft of blue boxes in the garage? No cable size changes needed. Correct? Ps I am only interested in a 12 v . Not off grid 240v. Thanks

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Před 7 dny

      That's correct, a DC/DC will charge the lithium or LFP battery with the correct charging profile. No need for a load of blue boxes.
