- George Ritchie's death from pneumonia, as a soldier in 1943, may stand as the most historically influential NDE account since Plato's description of an NDE attributed to Er, a soldier who died some 2400 years before. That's because Raymond Moody was present at a talk Dr. Ritchie gave on the NDE he'd experienced. That talk inspired Dr. Moody to research and writing that led to today's wide-spread public interest in NDEs.

I have read it probably 6-7 times in last 15 years, great book. The realm with the hooded figures has always puzzled me! Howard Storms NDE has also had A big impact on my faith.

I was so fortunate to have found this book 40 years ago.
What a fantastic NDE experience and also sobering to think about. One of the messages is to get yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually free of any addictions or vices before you pass over into the Spirit realm. Makes perfect sense and a message alot of Souls in this physical dimension need to hear including myself.

Hadn't heard this one before. Really fascinating, especially the part about the dead people hanging around bars. I've heard of this kind of thing from other sources. Lee has a great reading voice. I've bought Dr Richie's book now based off this podcast.

Thank you for this one. I really needed to hear an older account because some of the newer ones don’t sound authentic. I appreciate that Ritchie’s death was verified. If some of the deaths of the newer ones could be verified, there is a better chance that the experience is authentic.
I also wish we could hear more from children. I’m guessing parents are protective and hesitant to publicly share. Thank you for your work, Lee 🙏
When I was 4 years old ,got hit by a car and had an NDE, but no one is going to listen to a kid let alone advocate their narrative... this is why you're less likely to come across the greater volume of children accounts.

While reading the book, the library and silents scholars scene was the most perplexing to me! George Ritchie was not given an explicit answer, but perhaps a hint to him suggested they were selfless creatures who cared about learning and growing while on Earth! Does it mean those scholars who only need tangible evidence of God and hence they are given all the tools they need to search for the truth and it might not end? Or does it mean that there will be a special realm for selfless scholars to continue learning and growing in the afterlife? It makes sense that the knowledge and wisdom we acquire here on Earth should presumably stick with us in the afterlife . . . who knows? Maybe! But making good deeds in this life is essential!

The book of Return from Tomorrow is a small book but if this is only 47 minutes long, it's not the whole book.
All ndes are different. The hellish ones are also unique. I've never heard one like this before. Jesus giving him a tour of the different levels of eternity is definitely different. From what I've read anyone can have a negative nde. There are stories of gays and athiests going to heaven and stories of devout Christians going to hell. It's unsettling to not know the formula for going to heaven. It makes me think these aren't true spiritual experiences.
When all is said and done we cal search our whole life for truth. In JESUS I find the only one who truly genuinely loves us unconditionally!!!
@@mdmclaughlin28 Yes but if you buy the idea that ndes are true spiritual experiences you have to deal with the negative ones too. And believers in Jesus end up in hell also. He may love us but if that's true why do devout believers have negative ndes?
@@sampleowner6677 In Mt 7:13 Jesus warns that few find Eternal life, and in Luke 13:24 HE warns us to strive to enter which means to know HIM intimately. Read the sermon on the mount asking for GODS help and really observe your own heart and the heart and actions of others. The hypocrisy of human nature, our unwillingness to wait in quietness before GOD, the self centeredness of man becomes quite evident. JESUS warns of hypocrites not entering HIS kingdom!

@@mdmclaughlin28 My heart and reason says God honors all attempts to reach him. I don't believe any religion has a monopoly on God. Do you think all the Jews, Muslims and Hindus are going to hell? And by the way I have no problem with Christianity. It's one of the great religions of the world. I just reject the exclusivity idea that heaven is reserved for Born Again Christians.

These accounts have me wondering what the formula is for getting to heaven. The contradiction is the message of no judgment and the hellish ndes. I don't understand it. They make me think ndes are just hallucinations and not real.
