I agree that sex trafficking is a more serious crime, HOWEVER, the weed market in Korea is tied very closely to Korean gangs. If you buy/sell/smoke weed in Korea, you are directly supporting gang activity. THAT'S why it's punished so severely, not because they're ignorant.

@@honeybunchesofchims9124It’s both in this case. You’re still right. Rape culture plays a part.
But the worship and parasocial enmeshment between fans and idols contributes to fans perception of victims as well. They don’t want anyone ruining the image they have of their idol.
One of the celebrities involved, Lee Seungri, is still celebrated by his fans.
I’ve seen a lot of support coming from Indonesian and Malaysian female fans.
You can get doxxed and attacked on social media by those fans if you speak against him even though he served prison time for the part he played in this case.

Till this day I still see people defending bigbangs Seungri as well as many idols who SA’d women. It’s like stans are out of touch with reality, they think idols aren’t capable of doing these very disgusting things so they blame the victims
Edit: for all those saying no women accused seungri of bigbang, that still doesn’t mean he’s a good person. At the end of the day he is still a horrible person for even selling women without them knowing and also allowing for these women to be drugged & r@ped by other men just so he could get some extra money. He still profited off of women who may never recover from the trauma this situation brought them.

I'm a high school girl in Korea.
First of all, I'm truly, sincerely grateful that bbc brought this up because If I raise questions about these kinds of issues at school, I'm branded a thumping piggy feminist, an "emotional disorder."
I shed tears of unknown reason when I saw comments from foreigners who said they would listen to this and stand in solidarity. Thank you very much.
When this incident broke out, Korea was quiet. When Room N broke out (a case in which 260,000 Korean men watched a video clip in which a caterpillar was placed on a video device sexually assaulting elementary, middle, and high school and adult women my age), Korean men exaggerated the incident, saying that the actual sexual assault rate would be reduced only when the victims watched such videos as "enjoyed" because they wanted to. The mastermind of this nightmare was sentenced to 40 years in prison, and the person who disclosed their personal information about the criminals in anger was sentenced to two years in prison.
Three years later, just yesterday, a group of male students from Seoul National University, the nation's most prestigious university, posted illegal compounds of 60 women from their alumni and enjoyed watching them in more than 200 chat rooms. Another man from a prestigious medical school killed his girlfriend, who told him to break up at the same school.
Even though women are being sexually assaulted and killed every day in this land, the media keeps silent about the demonstration of a female nursery teacher who has no motherhood, and Korean men treat me as if it is the only big deal. It is a sense of victimization. Women also enjoy watching children's play, but they cover up the case, saying, "Isn't it the female version of Room N?" I cannot comment on these issues at school. That is why I desperately need your attention and solidarity. please Don't believe what they say in K-drama. I hope women take care of yourself and stay safe.

I really hope the condition of women and children in Korea get better.thank you for sharing all this, it must have been really difficult for you but trust me all these wouldn't go unnoticed. That's why I am very thankful for creators like Stephanie for shedding light on such cases and making international audiences more aware of the atrocities going around the world.
I have come to know a lot about the crimes and judicial system of Korea through Stephanie and it disgusts me to think that the men there think they can do whatever they want to women and go unscathed.I fully support the 4B movement, hope it can bring some justice.

The reality is it has a seedy underbelly that is utterly devoid of western breakers like womens or LGBT rights. Dude, I swear to God people put Japan in Korea on a pedestal and the thing is they’re no better than the United States like I know Japan is supposed to be the safest place on earth or at least one of them and it is and believe me if I had the money, I would be living in Japan right now, but that does not mean that it is the best place on the planet that does not mean it’s the safest place on the planet, and it certainly doesn’t mean that it’s the most morally sound Place either and that especially goes for South Korea. They both have their problems but a lot of people who like anime, and K-pop always put them on a pedestal because God forbid anyone realistically looks at the country that they Are essentially falling in love with. I mean look at me. I absolutely love Japan I truly do I’m even learning Japanese I love Korea I would never live there, especially with all the corruption with the government that everybody knew about even before the burning sun incident I mean look at the boat incident look at all of the different situations that Kore Has been in. I mean it’s no perfect place and neither is Japan. They both have their problems but I think realistically people are blinded by the things that they love in those countries so of course they like to put them on a pedestal and then that’s the information that everybody gets everywhere. Everybody gets the romanticized version of South Korea and Japan and even China, even though all three of them have their problems and that is an especially China. They’re beautiful countries all of them but they have their own problems and that goes for every other country. Look at Puerto Rico everybody saying Puerto, Puerto Rico they go through this and that but the thing is as a Puerto Rican. I know that the government is so severely corrupt that’s why Puerto Rican people in my island is suffering so greatly. I get this information from my family who has lived there, but what do people see on the outside they just see oh, Puerto Rico has been conquered so many times by Spain in the United States and blah blah blah and so they have a romanticized idea of what Puerto Rico is supposed to be what type of Ireland it is and how bad it is over there because of being conquered but the reality is they could do better if they had a better government if the people overturned the government and voted in better people. Honestly, Puerto Rico becoming a state would actually be the biggest benefit to it and that’s what they voted on but the United States voted against statehood so it’s a constant issue. There’s not one plant place on this planet. that’s perfect. But I’m 32 years old and it took a while for me to learn these things and that’s including the one place that I’ve always wanted to live and that’s Japan. I always thought Japan amazing and then for many years I’ve learned more and more as the Internet became fast because I honestly wanted to move to Japan since I was 10 but there was no Google back then there was none of that so I didn’t Know anything about Japan, other than anime other little random things. Sorry about the really long wall of text, but yeah, this is what people think of they think of the romanticize version of the place that they’re thinking about and they don’t really open their heart where their eyes or even do any research into the other things that are the cons of that country country. It’s always the pros.

I only got in because I went to a language exchange and the guy that ran it was friends with someone who knew someone who knew someone who could get us in. Immediately after going in, I realized I was the only non-Korean in the entire place and it was packed as it was after midnight. I was handed a drink from the bartender and IMMEDIATELY knew something was wrong after the first few sips. Might fight or flight kicked in and I abandoned everyone at the club and met with some friends at EonJu station. Thank god my friends took care of me because the second I got to them, I fell unconscious and they were unable to wake me up. They kept me safe and when I woke up the next day, I was perfectly fine--no hangover, nothing. I had no idea what had happened to me, but every single day I am thankful that I got the hell out of there and never looked back. Only a few months later did the burning sun controversy begin.

Prophet jesus also said he did not come to deny any law in torah but to complete it and said anyone who deny even a little law in old tastement will get the lowest place in kingdom(hell). Prophet jesus said anyone who look at woman with their lustful eyes, mean they commit adultery sin in their heart. Today many christian follow what paul and church teaches and not follow the real teachings of prophet jesus in old tastement because they not read their bible properly. Now paul and church also allow gamble, adultery, eat pork, drink alcohol, lgbt sin etc All of these are not what prophet jesus teaches in past. Yep, it's horrific- Korea seriously needs a royal commission into it's corrupt law system. In Australia we've had so many on the corruption that has infiltrated police forces nationally over many decades. When powerful agencies are left unchecked and answer to no-one that's a breeding ground.
For example, even when the crimes can no longer be denied like in this case, the charges against the perperators are played down to a "prostitution"(like the victims were willing participants and in it for their own incentive) instead of sex trafficing, which is what it clearly was.

Like I'm the type of person who is completely against cheating. I do not think there is any excuse for it, I do not think it is something small. People end themselves and others over being cheated on all the time. I think it's an extremely serious issue. That being said I do not feel bad for the girls who dated him after he was CONVICTED and served prison time for trafficking and SA and all of these really heinous crimes. Then they're all shocked Pikachu face and hurt he's cheating on them??! Like if you date someone like that it is a literal slap in the face to every single victim. If you are even friends with someone who has been convicted of even one of those crimes he was convicted of, it is a slap in the face. He should be a social pariah. If the government isn't going to keep him locked up in prison then he needs to be put in prison socially. IÂŽve been roofied before and itÂŽs true, it's like you're a zombie, you are moving and talking but you arenÂŽt really there. My friend and I had gone out for drinks and next thing I know, I am in an apartment with a group of men. I look around and my friend is passed out on the couch while I am sitting on some dudeÂŽs lap ( so out of character for me). I excused myself to the restroom and I just looked weird in the mirror. I knew something wasnÂŽt right because I couldn't remember how we got there and I only had 1-2 drinks, so I stuck my finger down my throat and made myself throw up. But I was still feeling pretty out of it. They kept knocking on the door trying to get me to come out. I finally did and asked to be driven home (or back to my car). They laughed saying I could share the bed with one of them, as I watched one of them carry my friend down the hallway. I threatened to scream, so finally one of them drove me back to my car, but I was too out of it so I just slept there. I woke up to two police men knocking on my window. I explained that I had been drugged but they just laughed not believing me. They called a cab for me and I woke up the next morning naked in my bath tub. I called and called my friend and she texted that she was okay, but I never saw her again. I still think that she was raped that night because she then moved away and I never heard from her again. To this day my family and friends donÂŽt believe me.

So of course every woman hating Incel was its women of course they're all the same. They just marry men for money then divorce and take their hard earned money. But the amount of stories similar to this from women. Hell I've been in a similar situation as this the first time I went bar hopping. Within 20mins one friend got roofied and left with his girlfriend (yup it was a guy roofied by another guy) we were told to continue since we were supposed to be helping a guy friend who finally came out to his parents. But the night was even further ruined when a guy refused to take no for an answer and kept trying to buy me a drink. At one point we thought we had lost him so having been my first time out and had gotten an update from the friend who got his stomach pumped. I drank. I vaguely remember being dragged to the parking by that same guy. My friend who is now my husband ran after the guy to ask what he was doing with me. The guy lied and said I was his girlfriend. Cue my entire group running at this guy. No I wasn't roofied but we did find out that a lot of the bartenders working this strip did have a system where they'd either slip a roofied into your drink if someone bought you from a group chat they had going. Which is what happened to our friend or they'd up the alcohol in your drink which is what happened to me. I can drink a person twice my size under the table which alerted my other friend. Come to find out they were mixing ever clear into my drinks. I do remember there were arrests made but freaking scary

I'm from Kazakhstan and recently a horrible event happened in our capital Astana, where ex economy MINISTER mur*ered his wife IN A RESTAURANT owned by his mother, he left her dy*ng in a vip cabin and ate lunch next door with his brother, while planning on how to get rid of a body. She was only 31, so beautiful, kindhearted woman. The whole nation is shocked these days, we want justice, and we want this case to be known by everybody around the world, so he can't slide it off. Hundreds of women are being beaten to d*ath and government doing nothing about it, they even decriminalized domestic violence.
Please, make a video about it, it would help millions of women in Kazakhstan. Thank you so much for spreading information about such important things.

Yes, please do a video on this case Stephanie! I've looked online and there isn't much info available unfortunately, except to say his wife Saltanat Nukenova died at a restaurant in Astana and Kuandyk Bishimbayev was arrested.
Femicide is a real issue worldwide but especially in Kazakhstan sadly.

To make fun of comfort women as Koreans is beyond shocking. I’m not Korean but I’m shook by the level of disrespect they have for women. That’s how deep their disrespect goes. Like Stephanie said, they don’t see us as human. We are just objects to be used until we have no use for them. I can’t believe anyone would go anywhere with Seungri after hearing this

I lived there for a bit and their gender roles are ridiculously rigid. Eating disorders galore, surgeries, preferences, it’s a thin line for them to walk to be considered even decent much less exceptional as women in society. Sex education there is also abysmal. Revenge porn is rampant in the schools. And it is true
predators get barely any punishment there. East Asia is a great place for a predator.

I know little about this, but years ago I read on 4chan about a video series that were sold in Japan, all women hired to simply do swimsuit and glamour modeling, not even nude, when they're suddenly confronted by a literal line of men who are going to assault them. I can't even get into the more disturbing details if I wish for this comment to post.
These videos were marketed as exactly what they were, but no action was taken. It took TWO of the victims dying of injuries from the ordeal for ANYTHING to be done.
Comments in the post explained that in Japan, there is a popular notion that if any woman or girl goes anywhere with a man, she has consented to absolutely anything he might decide to do. A notion held by people generally, and police, and the courts...
      Absolutely insane and just disgraceful
