@Redken NEW Acidic Color Gloss hair care line is here and I'm INTO IT!
I've used a lot of products over the years, so I get a gut feeling when I think something is going to be BIG, I'm feeling it...
The shampoo and conditioner have just the right amount of softening and hydration, with a great SLS free lather, I've tested them on ALL hair types and they aren't heavy.
Then there's the leave in Heat Protection Treatment, possibly my favourite, it rids the hair of tangles, whilst as the name suggests, it protects from heat AND helps stop hair color fade!
And last but by no means least, what some might feel is the STAR of the show, the brand new at home clear gloss, which we’ve all used in salon and LOVED.
Giving similar (not the same, it’s all in the video) results to Shades EQ Gloss, only you can top it up yourself in between salon visits.

I recently stumbled upon this line and I really love it. I have highlighted, medium texture hair with a lot of natural curl. My hair looks glossy and soft and smells really great. Love it!

Thanks Craig again for your review and explanation on the product ingredients. I have fine and colored hair, but I do have kind of wavy texture and my hair loves this color gloss series (haven’t tried the conditioner, as I use the leave in one, that keeps my hair voluminous as a conditioner seems heavier to me). The Shampoo doesn’t way my hair down and it still adds shine and moisture to it, without getting oily.I totally agree with you on that review and I highly recommend the products. It took me years to find the matching products, now I’ve stopped searching 🤩. As always, love the hair science explained here 🌻

Please tell me you have a needlepoint pillow somewhere in your salon that says, "Silicone is not the devil." 😆 I'm sure you probably already have a lot of ideas for videos, (and I apologize if you already made a video like this), but I would love to see a video about how much product to use- especially with conditioners, leave-in conditioners, and heat protectant spray. Sometimes the label tells you how much to use, but other times they don't. I'm always amazed when a hairdresser will spray something into my hair that's literally one or two spritzes and it works! I don't think I've ever sprayed something into my hair with only two spritzes in my life. My mind frame is, "more is better" or "I need a lot because my hair is so dry/damaged". Does the amount have to do with hair type? Is it more of how concentrated the formula is? Or a combo of both? Have a good weekend.

So that would be a tricky one to make, as everyone is going to use a different amount. The principles are the same as the ones in my “How to get the best from shampoo” video, it’s different for every human.
What I will say is the “heavier” (shampoos and conditioners) the texture, (generally) the less you would use and a lot of modern formulas are very concentrated.
With a lot of treatments, more is not better.
The opposite applies to styling products - if you want them to really perform, you often need to use more…

Hi Craig! Could you do a video on redken conditioners in general? There’s so many options it’s overwhelming …like extreme or extreme length? Frizz dismiss or all soft?! They all claim to do similar things so I’m guessing they suit different hair types but it’s just all a bit too much 😫
Hi there! I could but being totally honest, I’m not sure I’d want to do such a brand heavy video - I generally only talk about things I use on the regular but I do know the entire line.
Anything “Extreme” is for strength - contains protein but is balanced with a little moisture, so they don’t cause breakage (there’s a lot of misinformation on social platforms)
Then “All Soft…Frizz D” are more moisture based, for dehydrated hair that is generally more textured.
That said, it’s worth mentioning that in my experience a finer textured head of hair can really enjoy All Soft…so as I mention in my “How to get the BEST out of shampoo” video, it’s about trying the formula and not just going on what it’s recommended for.

It’s a great line, I’ve been using it in salon a lot! There should be usage guidelines on the Redken website, I would say to use it when you feel like your hair needs a shine boost.
Shades EQ are the toners that last the LEAST on my hair! And more expensive too… :/
That can have a lot to do with how they are being used - there’s a video about exactly that here on my channel.
I agree, they are at the higher end price point wise…but I’ve used them for 25 years and I love them…so do my clients. I’ve tested all the dupes and nothing is as good, in my opinion.
This definitely sounds like some thing I’d like to try. I have tried their acidic bonding concentrate to help with my dry hair. I was realizing that any moisture was not really staying in my hair very long and then tried the acidic bonding concentrate and it helped a little bit, but not as much as I thought it was going to. Is there anything else I can do to help? Keep my hair Moisture or do a treatment that helps with moisture and smoothness and shine?
It’s a great line, the gloss is really incredible.
I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “moisture”…? Does your hair feel dry…or is it rough in texture..? Do you have a lot of hair…is it color treated? A little more info would be great. I think you might mean it feels textured, in which case I would suggest a leave in, like the one in this line.

I agree the shampoo and conditioner and concentrate are good but not amazing. The one thing I absolutely adore as an ex hairdresser myself is the leave in treatment In the acidic bonding range it's been amazing for my hair. One of the best things I've used in 25 years.

Yes, I think the Clear Gloss would be effective without using the entire line, I have done this in salon and the results were good.

Do you have any feeling about the acidic bonding line of shampoo and conditioner or liquid mask when using for porous and damaged hair? I am curious if you feel it’s ok for regular use when used on porous, damaged hair.
I like the ABC line, the formulation is great…it’s ok to be used on all hair types and textures.
Personally, I prefer the “cosmetic” feel/results of this line though.
My fine curly hair is veeery sensitive to anything outside of a very narrow ph range, can't use anything too acidic or basic....so will have to give this a miss. Am interested in the new Paul Mitchell at-home gloss though....
It’s great that you understand your hair so brilliantly.
The clear gloss is 3.5-4.5, hair is around 4-5 and the slightly acidic formula helps to smooth the hair.

I switched to this from the Redkens colour extend magnetic. I've been using for ~3-4weeks now. Originally I was super impressed, but now my scalp just feels oily as if I'm not washing it out properly?? I'm emulsifying the shampoo and avoid using conditioner directly to the scalp and I can't think of where I'm going wrong? Is anyone else having similar or?
Hi Lucy, I’ve not had that experience in salon with it, perhaps try using even less of both…?
I am using the pH shampoo bc I picked it up after an unfortunate over-processing incident at the salon… it definitely does not cleanse as well as my redken volume injection shampoo ….as soon as I used the pH shampoo, I considered it as an in-between “light” shampoo… It’s serving my over-processed purpose (gentle rinsing), but it’s not as effective for oil removal. Volume injection all the way for oil removal. Maybe alternate the two. It did seem to make my hair shiny, and helped (along with several other products) helped my over-processed hair.
It won’t be as deep cleaning as the Volume Injection - that has mild clarifying properties, where as the ACG line is dimethicone based. I do have a video titled “How to get the best from Shampoo” that goes through ingredients.

I don't know if I should get the color extend line or the acidic color gloss line. Are they doing the same thing? My hair needs a balance of moisture and proteins and is weighed down pretty easily.
The Acidic Color Gloss line is replacing Color Extend…so there’s your answer!
It is a fab new launch, I’ve been using it in salon a lot and it doesn’t weigh the hair down.

Is the hydrogen peroxide ingredient in the gloss treatment bad for natural hair? like dry it out even more lead to damage overtime
No, it’s a really low volume - as long as you follow the guidelines.
I’ve been looking for a gloss without color, I tried ouai but I wasn’t impressed
Great, I’m glad I made the video then. This is very different to the Ouai one, it has a similar formulation the Shades EQ Gloss we use in salon, I genuinely love it.

You can use the leave in over any hair/hair colour. It’s possibly the best leave in I’ve ever used….the detangling is unreal!
