As a teenager, I was grounded for so long at one point that my parents forgot why I was grounded. My stepfather came home from work one day and saw me on the couch TV off just chilling. He was like, "Why are you here?" I responded with,"I'm grounded." He asked for what? I said, "y'all are the ones who grounded me, and you don't know?" He just told me to go away after that. So I took it as I was free so I bounced.

I got grounded for a year for standing up to my bullies and getting expelled in 6th grade. It had a severe, lasting impact on my social skills and outlook on the world.
Thats nothing, my sister got grounded "until further notice". That means if you ask how much longer you'll be grounded more time is added. If anything fun is coming up like a birthday party you want to go to you but they don't want to take you, you can't go because you're grounded. She ended up grounded for a couple years. It happened to all of my siblings at one time or another. Idk what she did, but I doubt it was something serious. It would be something like not finishing your dinner fast enough, going tk the bathroom after we were sent to bed , or opening your eyes when our step father shined a flashlight in our face when we were supposed to be asleep as soon as our head hit the pillo. I always had a feeling that stuff wasn't normal.
I don't know shit about your awful parents, but the flashlight thing and the checking extensively if you were asleep could have lead to abuse while you were sleeping. I hope you and your siblings are in a better situation now
😂 why do people even have reproductive organs, my God 😂
That’s definitely not normal
Same I was grounded from 6th to 11th grade so all my teenage social experience was solely in school, plus not having a phone made it that I didn’t really have friends either since I couldn’t even talk to people outside of school without it, leaving the crib wasn’t much a option. (Mainly got in trouble for forgetting house chores, talking in class, and eating in my room) shi I can’t even remmber how many times I got a whopping for food in my room or they find a old wrappers I forgot about etc, couldn’t even bring any drinks but water to my room. They were mad that I would buy food with my own money. Like I got woken up in the middle of the night and whooped because they found out I ordered pizza since they saw the empty box in the trash can. Keep in mind no one in the house cooked so I grew up with the idea that just feed yourself and I didn’t like to cook because I got in trouble for make messes in the kitchen and not clean well enough. I lived my teen years off of school lunch (somtimes) snacks and scrabbled eggs. I would never cook unless I was home alone so I didn’t have to hear complaints

I've always disagreed with canceling yearly events like Christmas or your birthday for anything that isn't horrible like a borderline crime. And especially with this, being a distraction in class is not worth 10 months of grounding and taking away your birthday that year. At most a month imo, or until the teacher says it improved
yeah 10 months is literally longer than three school year. not to mention continually punishing a CHILD like that is just fucked up
Being a distraction in class i feel like grounding him for a couple weeks or something would have been fine. Or just limiting electronics and stuff like that..
Being a distraction in class can be something as simple as correcting a mistake the teacher made. Or it could be the kid has ADHD and the teacher doesn't know how to effectively engage the student. Or it could be the student is bored in the class. Or it could be the child is abused and in need of help.
In the story presented I'd actually go for the last one. The other ones are all on the teacher and should be recognised as such. The being bored in class can be argued as needing to teach some discipline.
My most dreaded but also good punishment as a teen was being made to hold a pot plant out in front of me with straight arms. It was always past the point of comfort but never to where it would hurt me. Gave me big strong shoulders by the time I finished highschool. And I got to enjoy the burn of a good workout when I realised what it was doing for me.
Christmas isn't just an "event" it's a holiday acknowledging the birth of Christ, and on top of that a cultural moment recognizing family ties. Canceling that for any reason is a fast track to Hell for the parents
10 months for a distraction is insane, not even the stereotypical Asian parent is that insane

That'll teach her.
My mom didn't exactly punish, she couldn't really punish, that requires perseverance, but she yelled and threatened.
Honestly pretty mild compared to what a lot of people here talk about.
But now I'm 30 and she wants to go shopping together and have our nails done or have a dinner just us 2. And she keeps offering to pay because she thinks that that's the issue.

I also hated parent teacher conferences. Ironically, most of my teachers loved me… but I’d alway read in class, even during lessons. And obviously, teachers love a quiet kid that reads, but they *do* also want me to pay attention. It was probably the first time in their career they had to tell a kid to read *less*.
My parents "grounded" me to one book a day in the 3rd grade, so of course I went looking for the biggest books I could find to try to make it last me a full day. Only worked occasionally.
I was actually the same I used to not do my schoolwork and just read books in class because I used to get really into the books I’d read, but hey, at least I wasn’t on my phone which I also used to read
I was the same way. When I got grounded my Mom would take my books away along with no tv or computer. By the time I was 10 I had too may books so that was no longer a option to be taken away.

I thought I read a lot until a kid in the class below me got in trouble for reading during PE 💀
Once in HS my mom grounded me for a full year I had no phone wasn’t allowed to go to any friends houses or do anything with anyone. All I was allowed to do was school, football practice, home that’s it. No video games, no tv, no phone. And it turned out after a year I just randomly got ungrounded and it was all for something I didn’t do and my mom knew I didn’t do it the whole time. Then later she said I was never even in trouble since she knew I didn’t do what I was grounded for
My mom did the same thing to me but it was a month instead of a year. I’m sorry that happened to you man
Bruh then I go then why did you take my damn phone
Similar thing happened to me, though I wasn't even allowed to go practices (and I used to just lie about the reason why I couldn't go, I was always too embarrassed? to admit I was grounded), and it was for two years. Parents can really fuck their kids up sometimes without realizing it.
Seems like for some it's just an excuse to be controlling. Just tell everyone it's a punishment and then they don't question why you're being so restrictive towards your child.
What in the mind games?? Naw that makes me so mad!! I’m sorry about that!
Grounding as a punishment never worked for me because I was such an introvert I saw it as a reward that i just got to stay home and chill. My parents really had to brainstorm how to punish me 😅

His mom: Damn... guess you were never born 🤷♀️
I remember having "detention", my door and bed removed for a couple of months when I didn't bring home my report card because I didn't wanna get hit/ yelled at for never reaching his expectations.
Should've honestly brought it home.
Edit: He called it detention because it was a period of reflection, learning, and discipline. Getting grounded was more of a day event after fighting, but not having a door prevented that.

I got grounded for 3 months because CPS got called on my mother for the first time ( It has happened twice so far and has been recommended by a school therapist that they should be called again). When she gets drunk she can be rough and she pretends to choke me as a joke. One night she did it a little too hard and it actually hurt. I accidentally told my therapist about it and she said "Honey that's not okay, I have to report this." I begged her not to report it; I knew I would be blamed for it cause my mother told me I'm not supposed to tell my therapist everything, that everything doesn't need to be said. Later my mother got a call saying there was a report done on her and that they will be coming by in 2 days. I pretended not to know hopefully convincing my mother and not getting in trouble for it. They came and I was nervous and didn't know what to say so I told them the truth. After, my mother said you should have just told them nothing happened like that and that you never said something like that to your therapist; the therapist reported that I said she choked me until I couldn't breathe, I said she choked me and it felt like I couldn't breathe because I was thrown off I didn't expect it to hurt so I had a mild panic attack. Then I was grounded and told she forgave me for what I did, but will bring it up to guilt me into obeying cause I caused her another burden. She then fired my therapist for spreading misinformation and "not doing her job" (she believed she wasn't helping my mental health to get better even though it had only been 4 months and I had been suffering from mental health and past trauma problems for years. She was helping my mother and just thought it could be fixed in a couple of months.) This is only one of the shit my mother has said and put me through over the years.
TLDR: My mother jokingly drunk-choked me and it hurt. I told my therapist and my mother got reported to CPS she blamed me, grounded me for 3 months, and fired my therapist cause she thought she wasn't doing her job right. (she was)

I once got grounded for 2 and a half months for “behaving poorly”. I think my parents and I had had a screaming match over me losing my bus card, I needed it to go to training but I couldn’t find it. None of us were thinking clearly, so if it was my fault it had to be partly theirs too because they only enabled my bad mood.
The grounding meant no electronics or play dates for 2 and a half months. If I did something again, the time would double. My fear of doing something wrong was so extreme that I had breakdowns or anxiety attacks every single time I did something I wasn’t supposed to or didn’t mean to

Plot twist: the robber was his buddy, who failed the mission of finding his iPod.
Since everyone is sharing their rebellious school moments I'll share mine!
Long story short, my friends and I had this joke whenever someone in the group did something mildly annoying. We would look at another friend in the group and say "put them on the hit list".
*An important thing to note is that there was no actual list*
An example is as follows- "Puck won't give my pencil back, Taylor put her on the hit list"
It was a stupid joke amongst middle schoolers, just weird edgy humor.
Anywayys, one of the kid in my class was doing something annoying so I looked at my friend and said the line. The kid's face immediately dropped and he was silent the rest of class.
I thought nothing of it until being brought to the dean's office and read my Miranda Rights...the kid told his parents and they went to the police (I don't blame them considering the culture in American schools at the time *cough cough* )
It ended with a day of ISS and two days of OSS, my parents did nothing because they knew it was a joke and I was genuinely bawling my eyes out the entire time I was in the office.
Lesson learned? Don't include people in inside jokes when they don't have full context...and are basically strangers.
Ooofffff I can feel that. That sucks bad. Glad your parents could see it was a joke
@@mr.randomperson9900 eh it wasn't that bad, now I just look back at it and laugh.
The police report didn't stay on my record and they wiped the OSS and ISS off after the year ended because I was on good behavior. Only time in my schooling career I had ever gotten in trouble lol
@@puck6080 I had the cops come raid my room because I was talking about COD with my friends over school e-mail 😭
@@mr.randomperson9900 At least they're trying lmaooo
No, the real lesson here is that the kid was bitchmade, and his parents are spastics.
I literally spent the majority of 4yrs grounded. From 14-18, the only reason I wasnt grounded still was due to being an adult. For context I hated school vehemently growing up, I absolutely loathed it, on top of having a learning disability, and I intentionally failed a couple of classes because of it, so my parents' response was to perma-ground me until i was an adult.
Good lol should’ve fucking grew up and took school seriously
Why would you intentionally fail classes
@metta4270 because I was absolutely miserable in school. My experience in high school was absolutely god awful and the school system in the US has always been a complete joke. The school system here forces you to learn subjects that you may never use in your future life, but they don't teach you anything actually necessary like taxes.
@@Zanggor1 I mean the school system isn’t the problem really it’s more the culture around it and it’s also stupid that Usa doesn’t state how much you have to pay in taxes
@metta4270 Yeah, our school systems are just hot garbage here. People here are just elitists who think America is the best country in the world.
Parents like that are exactly why you got a kid like that.
When I was a kid we usually didnt have a lot of money for food so I was apart of the brown bag lunch program at school (free sandwich everyday), and on fridays we got hot lunch for free as well, but only the scraps of what was left behind from the other kids. So anyways, this one day its Nacho day and I was so excited, hadn't eaten nachos in forever, then the kid next to me grabbed a handful of my nachos and started eating them... 😀 so I bit him. I was like 8-9 years old. I was furious. Get home, I'm grounded and my mom takes away my box tv and Spyro original trilogy set and hides them in the storage room until "she decides" I can have them back. Every few days I'd ask if I could have it back, then eventually every couple weeks, then every few months. Went on for nearly a whole year. But I kept asking for it back and everytime my mom said that no she didnt think I was ready.Eventually I forgot about it for like a single month, remember it was there again and asked my mom if I can have it back and she responds with "I got rid of it because you never played it anymore." 🥴💥 so fast forward 10 years later and I spend $300 to replace the entire set console and games... definitely an internal cry moment.
You should sell her wedding gown and expensive jewelry since she never wears it anymore
She sold it first month- she was just waiting for you to forget. Thats so fucked up.
legend has it he didn't age that year
The punishment did not fit the crime. That's terrible parenting
Bro realized he didn’t have an actual story so he randomly threw on that robbery part 🤣
How to fight back from that:
Step 1: Report the teacher to the CIA for treason
Ive been grounded for 3 1/2 years. My dad just forgot to unground me and I just never got my full freedom returned until like last year
he needs therapy 💀
These the same kind of parents who wonder why their kids don't visit them in the Nursing Home
Plot twist: he planned the robbery knowing his iPod wouldn’t have been stolen
Homie got 10 months for being hilarious
I wad grounded for 5 years with short breaks of 4 or 5 days where I wasn't grounded my Das divorced my mom because she treated me so poorly she took everything from me my text books my normal books my tv any game system and even my school issued tablet because I never cared about being grounded and I would just read fantasy novels but I have intense anxiety from having my entire social life taken from me when I was in middleschool all the way to high-school it is still hard to get out and force my self to socialize I used to be a social butterfly too
Not to be mean but, punctuation is your friend.
@@womanishthing1994 Clearly not yours tho
Never have I gotten grounded but yeah I used to be super social as well now I barley talk to anyone 💯
Lol same...
@@womanishthing1994the comma goes before the but.
My parents hit me when young, at some point i started faking the pain so they would get creative my dad notice started having 6 hr conversation which was even more torture, gained the skill to wait in a line for a really long ass time without complaint. At some point i realizes i lost so much life with these conversations lol
Had a similar incident where I got spanked said it didn't hurt which was true and he said you shouldn't have said that and got a belt
@Christian Moore yea they used hands, belt, wire a couple times, sandal, among others
A year, a month, and 6 days was my longest sentence… and literally also kuz of school parent teacher conferences and the like.. lol😅
you dont know the horror of middle school me swearing up and down to my parents my grades got up when summer break started and just hoping and praying that i get the mail first
can’t believe parents actually do this, neglect your child some more why don’t you
Omg no iPod touch😤 his parents should be in prison
@@lilg6869it's not about that. It's about the fact that the parents punish the child for something so small. This kind of parenting often leads other issues
@@lemonlizard1 still not neglect. Stop being ignorant
@@lemonlizard1 you the typa guy to raise a brat discipline is what creates a strong society
People act like raising kids is alchemy if your a half decent person your kids will turn out fine. They're complete sponges and will pick up or react to your actions in various ways. This checks out, negligence and a kid being a distraction at school are like chocolate and peanut butter.
Grounding someone into a new school year is bonkers
I got grounded for 4 months.over something i Didnt do. My parents had a shot of vodka in the kitchen and somebody drank it. They insisted it was me.when it wasnt. They literally shut off the power to my room for 4 months and made me spend 90% of my time there.
I got in countless fights and i can only recale like 3-5 times i ever actually got in any trouble for it at home because my parents knew it wasnt me starting the fights except that hand full of times idr what even but all i remember for sure is i was too stupid to check the clear plastic tub in the living room with my game console sitting inside when my mom told me she hid it for the day and i could have it back after she got home and was surprised i hadnt got it set back up i felt like such a dumbass since i was sitting 2 feet from it when she got home
Got grounded for essentially a year once. My mum put practically all of my stuff in the attic because i went out with my 'friends' without telling her where i was going & also she caught me swearing _alot_.
also one time i drew on my wardrobe and got grounded for like a month or two.
Taking birthdays and Christmas and Halloween away made me think I don't deserve anything when all I would do is not wash the dishes while my mom was at work or get a 70 now I don't like holidays and I'm losing my mind and I wanna die and I don't need help and this is relatable lollll
I cracked up so hard when he said “iPod touch”😂😂
10 months is insane, that’s literal child abuse.
In what way is that child abuse that's just discipline
@@Saintpablolover91169 if you don't get why that's child abuse, please don't spread your seed.
There will be one less children free from child abuse
@@Lucci489 how is that child abuse Child abuse is when parents hit their children or stuff like that parents are only required to give you food clothes shelter and other necessities being grounded doesn't strip you of any necessities
@@Lucci489 Calling this child abuse diminishes the harm done by actual physical or psychological mistreatment of a child (hitting them, insulting them, neglecting them, etc.) Grounding can be child abuse if it involves social isolation but all we’re told is that he got his ipod taken away and didn’t get a birthday party, which are both revokable privileges that many children are not fortunate enough to even have. At face value it’s clearly not child abuse, even if is bad parenting.
@@Saintpablolover91169 that's a basic for surviving not living for a child to grow up healthy physically and mentally stimulating, socialisation etc. Is VERY important maybe u should take a child development class
10 months is overkill. He was probably just bitter at his parents the whole time because that’s not fair in the slightest. That’s like if I forgot to take the trash out and my mom responds by locking me in the basement for 2 days with no lights and minimal food and water. It’s not like he even did anything wrong either, it’s a reasonable reaction to being forced to sit in a room for 8 hours each day without being able to speak or do anything at all.
That’s nothing, one of my friends are ground for 2 years unless an issue is resolved.💀
Bro did a bid at home 😂
I got grounded for 3 months at a time from my mom and I thought that was insane😂. Soon as I was ungrounded couple weeks later I’d get grounded for another month or two. I was basically grounded until I turned 18
Yo, same. And when I was grounded I wasn't allowed to leave my room except to go to school (the bathroom was connected to my room) and had to clean the house from top to bottom everyday after school
@@ToraTheMugwumphow did you eat. That makes me think what your saying isn't true.
@@luger4799 Doubt whatever you want because no one is here to prove anything to Luger47
Ah yes, a classic.
Somewhere in my parents house is a hidden 3ds that my mom took from my little brother only to forget where she put it, bc he kept looking for it.
I felt that birthday comment, I was always in trouble for my birthday didn’t have a party tell I was 16
Soon as he said mrs shneider I knew he was calling 😂
Wow, you think that’s bad…💀
10 months for saying "you're a distraction" is pretty solid bad mom points don't lie abt it 😩
It’s not “beat me unconscious” or “used my SSN when I was a child so I aged into your debt” but it’s still shit parenting
@@bonnie1303 I'd rather be beat unconscious no cap
In fourth grade I had a teacher named Miss Schneider but then she got married and became Mrs Motz
I find it funny that they’re called parent teacher conferences because we call them parents evenings here.
So many lame podcasts these days.
Iced coffee hour is an amazing podcast my guy. This is literally 1 small clip that isn’t even a representation of what they talk about, or the education they provide having these important financial talks
It would’ve been more efficient to search for podcasts you like than scrolling on every podcast you don’t like and commenting on how you don’t like them
i was grounded for an entire summer break and the following school year, so same
10 months is wild...for a kid that's a literal jail sentence lmao
Parent had karma for being robbed, deserved AF
my friend was really struggling in 8th grade and he had just moved to my school. it was the first quarter of the year and he was still struggling adjusting and he was getting picked on. but since his grades weren’t enough for his parents he had halloween taken from him while his parents and siblings went out and he died in his room that night. i don’t believe holidays should be taken. you never get that time back with your children. take away a hang out, a video game, a cellphone or a sleep over. he just wanted to make it to halloween. he didn’t even get that. and we all miss him.
I always get amazed at people who talk about being grounded..
I had parents that were so mellow. Like never had to sneak out, never had to lie to them, never had to hide anything.. they just cared that I got home safe and lived my life. 💁🏽💁🏽
“Ipod touch” *puts up pic of Ipod classic*
10 months of being grounded for a bad teacher confrence is insanly strict
Brooo not the birthday!!😭
