His names Tyke James. He’s a old classmate of mine and spent some of his Highschool years in Hawaii, Oahu. He has in fact opened many coconuts properly with a stone he was just showing off and messing around in the vid 😅

Mexican here. Where I live there's a lot of stands of people seeling coconuts. They open the coconut with 3 to 4 slashes of a machete, leaving a hole big enough to empty all the water quickly. Then they make more slashes to cut the coconut in half, remove al the edible bits, but them in a plastic bag and mix it with lemon and chile. You def don't need screwdrivers and a hammer, but I guess someone coukd have killed themselves in here if they tried to open it with a machete.

En Mex desde pequeños se nos acostumbra a comer chile a la mayoría. A mí sí me sabe bien el coco con limón y chile porque es costumbre, pero necesitarías probarlo
De donde soy (Baja Sur) venden hielitos de coco, pero la carne de coco. También puedes solo ponerle Limón y sal

If it's a mature coconut (as in this video) it is best to use the back of the machete. Otherwise it is unnecessarily dulling the cutting edge and could cause injury. This procedure can be done over a bowl to capture the water if desired. Usually people are after the meat inside to make sambols, chutney, milk or oil.
People in market, roadside, etc. usually sell young coconuts as a refreshment. The shells are not yet hard so they can be cut using the sharp side of the machete without adverse consequences.
