  • You’ll want to grab something to eat and drink before settling in with one of Martin Walker’s “Bruno, Chief of Police,” books. Otherwise, you run the risk of your mouth watering onto the pages of his charming, historic, and thought-provoking mysteries. As in all the novels in this series, “The Shooting at Chateau Rock” stars Bruno, a country cop who spends as much time preparing gourmet meals as tracking down the bad guy, and the Perigord, a region in Southwestern France with rich history and gastronomy. Martin Walker joins us from his home in this beautiful setting where he talks about its inspiration on his novels, the reader who he writes for (but who’s never read his Bruno books), and his love of music (he even serenades us).

The song was not "La Chanson des Vieux Amants," one of the most beautiful love songs of the 20th center. It is a guitar piece for Guitar and Orchestra by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

A casual lunch with strangers on a Viking cruise led me to Bruno. Martin Walker is a wonderful author. He blends the elements of the mystery with history, sociology, and incredible character development. You feel as if the inhabitants are your neighbors. I got really invested in their stories.
