Welcome to Storytellers' Studio! We're the home of HEC Books, an author interview series in partnership with the St. Louis County Library, Novel Neighbor, and Left Bank Books. Our organization, HEC Media, is a small, non-profit located in St. Louis, Missouri. We strive to promote lifelong learning by producing content focused on education, culture, science and technology, and the community of St. Louis.
Real Americans with author Rachel Khong
"Real Americans" is a thought-provoking novel, spanning 50 years and three continents of a multi-racial family. Author Rachel Khong introduces us to Lily Chen who meets Matthew Maier, heir to a pharmaceutical empire at the beginning of Y2K in New York City. They fall in love, not knowing that their relationship will reveal decades' worth of family secrets. Khong addresses life's biggest questions such as 'how much do our families shape our identities?' Artfully crafted scenes and endearing characters makes "Real Americans" a riveting page turner. Khong considers destiny, race and privilege, influenced by biology, world events, choices, and luck to dramatize the fundamental American belief in the ability to change and better humanity.
