As a professional photographer and tourguide I'm traveling to Greenland frequently since 10 years. In this decade I've been hiking and kayaking hundreds of kilometers on the in search of the perfect photograph. I've seen thousands of icebergs and glaciers, whales and musk ox and of course wild polar fox, but never a white one. But in September 2018 after a sunrise shot at the disco bay I've seen something pure white standing on the top of a small mountain and looking at me. A few seconds later the white thing began to move and disappeared behind the small mountain. So I took my camera with me and began running towards the mountain. After about 20 minutes I reached the top and of course the pure white fox vanished. So I walked further to the shoreline of Disko Bay. Then while climbing down to a gap in the rocks I saw the fox looking down to me just 2 meters over me. During the next 20min we did make friends and the distance became smaller. Then the unthinkable happened. The fox bit into my lens hood and stayed with me.

By all rights it is a separate country, separate governments too, sort of a "not quite colony, not quite independent nation state" and thus, sometimes Greenland is acting as Denmark, and sometimes Denmark is acting as Denmark.
BUT Greenland is part of the KINGDOM of Denmark, which is not the Country of Denmark! :D

I love watching young foxes who are both incredibly skittish and yet too curious to just run off
This is also just kind of how Arctic foxes have to be, as a cord technique, they have to develop if they're going to survive. Long-term is the ability to commit theft of polar bear food. Sometimes when the polar bear is nearby and willing to guard its food
This is why I couldn’t be a nat-geo photographer

(I can't quite remember but i know there is something)
silly face it’s more of an agreement more than rules i think so that wild animals don’t become dependent on humans, but the problem is that humans are empathetic beings so if there’s like an injured animal with no nearby threats it’s fine to help, but if they’re being hunted you have to let them die

I imagine this is a lot like how dogs were domesticated. Its so strange to think about.
uncletigger honestly, unless a person had some kind of a traumatic experience with a dog like being bitten, I just plain don't trust someone who dislikes dogs. The few people I have met on sever continents who hated dogs were very deficient in goodness and character. That's not to imply everyone who likes dogs is a great person. Also, while women can certainly be maternal, men also strongly bond with animals, especially dogs.
@uncletigger you resigned because of a dog? you must be part of the antifa crowd now lootin and stealin
@uncletigger Yes! A lot of books I've read say that generally domestication came about with hungry wolves lingering nearby as humans ate around their fires, and...well, eventually the humans decided to feed them scraps, which I'm sure the wolves enjoyed! And eventually some semblance of trust must've formed...the seeds of an undying eons-long bond were planted.
Its so interesting & oddly humorous to imagine it, lol.
Also, I'd prob resign too if I saw that.
One time when I was 9 or 10 I punched another kid in the face for shooting my dog with a slingshot.

(200,000 iterations is the time for a simple amino acid chain to form from scratch I would think). If I had to make a guess or if my very life were at stake I would do at least a one hundred billion iterations for a complex being such as a human to evolve (3000 billion years)
Now you might talk at me but not with me if only you were present with your heart. When formal, Aethists have "professional" and scientific reasons for denying God, when alone however, most of them deny due to having a personal bias against a being that they cannot overpower or control much like democracy.
God is perhaps the most self evident entity ever, denying whom causes existential crisis understandably. It's like 2 people were alone on an island and had a bet that if the sun were visible tommorow, the weather is good i.e I get your part of the fish catch. Tomorrow comes and the losing person denies ever calling the sun "sun". He cannot be disproven at all given the circumstances.
Richard Dawkins has wasted all his life "disproving" God. I wouldn't waste my life if I were him, just move on from the flat earthers.... However his "addiction" itself is a proof that he is disproving something that exists (due to personal reasons again)
It is a _very_ simple equation. The universe had a start sometime. It didn't start by itself. It was caused by something which in turn was caused by something which in turn was caused by something. But there was a 1st start sometime by something that was above time, dimensions and comprehension.
About a few hundred years ago I imagine there was an aethist somewhere and his friend asked him "since when do you think that mountain has stood over there". The aethist didn't blink an eye and said "since forever, what is for dinner btw?"

Actually there are domesticated foxes but you are correct in that it is not the norm especially in the vid above.
This little fella is just awesome !
This is exactly the same type of situation that caused the domestication of wolves into our best doggos hundreds of years ago. Some of them were like "oh human you seem neat" and stuck around long enough for us to love them and change their opinions on us.
The foxes are next LOL
It has been experimented that foxes are only a few generations from complete domestication (like, floppy ears and all)
Man, I can get why people would want a fox pet, but do we really want to do that?
I have guinea pigs and I love em, but I can't help feel like we're like children who just want more things, bc we're not satisfied with the options we have.
Foxes are adorable, but it's like, why do you want to do that to them? Why do you want to subjugate and control _another_ species, just so you can be amused and feel loved? Don't we have enough of those? Isn't it just selfish at this point? We already have "exotic animals", where people capture em and breed em from who knows where just to fill the markets-- sometimes to the point of extinction.
We don't even have the excuse of using them as hunting partners like we did w/ dogs or cats, we just want em 'cuz they're cute and quirky. And even when we domesticated dogs and cats, we immediately treated em like shit and took them for granted.
Like y'know, eventually, we'll have "fox mills", and starving foxes, and people abusing their foxes, except it's way worse because we took away their autonomy just so we could have another option at the pet store.
And I guarantee that it's just because people want to feel special for having a unique "pet" like a fox.
But hey, at least you'll get a fox running up to you and loving you unconditionally! No choice of its own tho, since it will be _bred_ to love you unconditionally, and rely solely on you.
I'm hoping, though, that this time it'll be different since we have better knowledge and different beliefs. Bc honestly, domesticating them was inevitable. I just hope that they won't be eventually taken for granted and abused, too, like we do to all other things we call ours.
@@Cheshieruu Well said. Very well said 👍

don't get me wrong, i wouldn't mind having a pet fox in the future because they're fuckin adorable, but what's the cost, y'know? what will it mean for domestic foxes? I'm just reluctant to the idea of it.
we have a penchant for ruining good things
It's better we should just admire them from afar and leave them alone to be wild and free. I actually don't mind those who take in and care for rescued or permanently injured foxes because those foxes won't be able to survive in the wild anymore. What I can't support are people who force healthy foxes to be domesticated and keep them as pets just coz they're cute and that they have something to brag to their peers. We have a variety of dogs and cats and farm animals and such that have already been domesticated to choose from.
The Shiba Inu kinda looks like a fox so why not just settle with that?
Some of y'all gush about how amazing it would be to keep foxes and y'all get so caught up in the excitement but when the going gets rough y'all get tired and abandon them until they die of starvation. Shows just how superficial the desire is to want them as pets. Sorry but I'll pass. Seeing them living as wild animals and not being chained by humans brings me more joy and satisfaction than the latter.

There are no snakes in Greenland

Haha, black hard one eyed snake.... Wait what?!?

Absolutely the best job in the world. Moments like that are priceless
One cannot but smile, watching this naive fox acting about. A struggle between different, if not opposite, impulses: cautious / scared vs curious / bold.
what
The photographer was so chill and silent that the nature literally came to him.
I wish humanity could take even a fraction of that behavior.
thats how photography works
It’s his job to do this. He has trained to be very still so animals don’t feel threatened by any movement, that way the animals act naturally and make photographs better.
Not all humans can be like this, but for those who do it, it's a moment of life worth spending.
Cringe
They are forced to do this but it's not related at all to taking photos. but so the animals won't say this human=safe. all humans we encounter next=safe.
Every video you watch when photographer is being approached by wild animal he cannot move, even more when there's no danger of life.
Plot twist, those are trees under their feet and they are both giants

It’s not a fox *gasp* it’s Fenrir!
Fenrir is that you?
Yeah, she's 8 tails short
Absolutely fenomenal.
Hello,
Incredible moment,
Thank very much,
Jean-François
I like how he bites the camera and not the shoe when the shoe is closer to something he’d actually eat, being leather
I believe it must have figured the shoe was a part of the man and the camera was just *on* the man. It didn't want to bite the guy 'cause that might make him retaliate, but the disconnected object was fair game.
He's a Nikon kinda fox.

@@rivver56 Probably, yeah. Don't bite off more than you can chew, or the big human might become angry. But the camera is fine to nibble.
Most Animals, Especially Mammals, can tell the difference between Themselves, Some-Object and Someone. Also a lot of Quadrupeds use the action of Pawing and Mouthing, to investigate things and to Socialise :) I Imagine the Fox wanted to be friends with the 'Big Thing', Aha
That bite had some serious ASMR potential. The fox should make his own ASMR channel, he would definitely blow up
I certainly hope not, who'd clean up the fox giblets after?
oh
