#cooking #food #recipe - Zábava
Guga, I used to work for Pizza Hut. The reason why it was discontinued was because it wasn't " already made ". It was precooked yes but not already made. There was this " tool " that looked like a big ring that was used to press down onto only the outer edges of the dough and cut them into strip segments, then the piggies were placed in the center of each segment and rolled individually. The same tool was used to make the cheese only version by placing 2 inch cheese sticks in each cut segment of the dough and rolling them individually. The reason they were both discontinued ( or at least made seasonal only ) was because of the time it took to make them. It was very time consuming and couldn't meet the demand.
Came here to say that
When I worked at pizza hut we would prep 10 of the hotdog version and 20 of the cheese version. It was more prep, but we would make the pizza in the same amount of time as the others, that way.
fun fact: an older anime called Code Geass was sponsored by Pizza Hut and had one of the main characters consistently eat the pig in a blanket crust pizza, usually with a 50/50 topping spread of beef and broccoli / shrimp tempura.
@@ShadowAraun I was thinking the same thing. Wasnt expecting for someone to mention that 2006 anime. Anyway, it seems like Japan had that hot dog pizza way way before Americans even saw it. Japan always has gimmicky and trendy foods from fast food chains.
At my store we would just roll the dogs same as a stuffed crust and then use the ring to cut the rolled dogs after which we turned them. Still a pain, but it had to be faster than rolling each individually
I worked for Pizza Hut when the Hot Dog Bites pizza was being sold. Two things - One, it came off the menu because they sold poorly and most people thought it was a joke (we sold at most one a day on average). Two, that's actually not how we made it. We had long hot dogs that we used to make a stuffed crust, then we used a special set of rings to cut the crust into the bites that we then rotated so they'd be easier to pull off and you could see the hot dog. Honestly, they were really labor-intensive compared to a regular pizza and I really disliked making them.
thanks for the explanation. with every item here, I have the feeling that it is done in a way it is meant to be, but not in a way that it was done to have it reasonably priced.
in other videos, he fries meat in wagyu fat. that stuff is rather expensive.
Made "dogs in a blanket" couple of months ago. I'm still sick. Yuk 🤢
The ingredients are good but Hot dogs in a oven get dry...
We still have that menu here in Indonesia. With garlic mayo dipping sauce. It is called Stuffed Crust
Oh, we do have Cheesy Bites too at Pizza Hut Indonesia. Instead of sausage, they replace it with cheese
@@robihindrawan1688And the cheesy bites with cheese ROCKS!!!
The McLobster is still around, but it's only in New England, and only in locations that are close to a ready supply of cheap, _processed_ lobster. If the lobster has to travel more than 10-15 miles, or can't be purchased already processed, cleaned and chopped, then it's not happening. This means it's also seasonal, but since lobster is in season during *tourist* season, that's when you'll see it. It's also entirely at the discretion of the store manager. Port towns like Gloucester, Portsmouth or Portland are where you have a chance to find it. Also, I noticed that you are using Kewpie Mayo. That's going to be a HUGE improvement.
Might as well get an actual lobster roll somewhere if you're already IN New England
Thanks for this - gonna make a note, might have to add locations like those to a road trip sometime in the future to give that one a try! Can't help but be curious about how McDonalds does with these...
@@al145 Same reason you'll stop somewhere like McDonalds instead of a restaurant that makes 'better' burgers - convenience, speed
Kewpie Mayo is the way, normal Mayo don't stand any chance anymore
@RyTrapp0 There are plenty of better places to get a lobster roll that are equally fast and convenient, but curiosity is a big factor. I’m just curious to see what McDonalds lobster tastes like, even though I hate mayo.
The naked taco was the best idea of any fast food restaurant. So much protein.
I don't know what was up with the chicken we used but that stuff went to rock hard after being left alone for more than 5 minutes so I had to always tell the customers to eat it immediately.
@@BunnyTheOverlord lmfao

just replace the mayo with bbq or honey.
As a former fast food worker, specifically KFC, the reason most of these were discontinued was because of the additional work they were. We did our best to use as few of the machines as possible. Things like hot dogs, boneless chicken breasts, etc, are extra work
makes sense that was my first thought
I thin another part may be artificial scarcity. Take a popular item off the menu and occasionally bring it back to create high demand.
The Double (as it was called when it was released in Australia) isn't something that requires any special extra machines or equipment or ingredients. And it seemed to be popular last time they had it on the menu. I wish KFC Australia would bring it back, if they did I would eat so many during the promo period.
😂😂wow. Im glad some people still have a little bit of Common Sense. Uh yea maybe it'll be extra work. I think more work more time. 👏 wow.
So lazy. How hard is it to slap a few more ingredients or more work to cook and prep.
3:53 for anyone who’s interested the Hula burger was intended as an alternative for Catholics to eat on Fridays when they couldn’t eat meat, but a franchisee invented the Fillet o Fish which ended up being more popular among Catholics and is still sold today
Yep. Founder/CEO Ray Kroc actually made a bet with said franchisee that the Hula Burger would be more popular than the franchisee's Filet-o-Fish. It was very much not.
Wait really? Catholics? I thought most Catholics didn't care about eating meat on Fridays, specially on LatinAmerica. I think the ones who couldn't eat it were Jews...
90% correct.
It was much less of a concern to lose the handful of Catholics who actually abstain from meats on Fridays than it was to lose the patronage of the much larger portion of Christians as a whole who abstain for six weeks during Lent. It's the same reason a lot of chicken places down south will put out seasonal seafood items on their menus.
I believe it was for this reason that Taco Bell briefly added shrimp tacos and burritos to their menu.
Mc.Donalds knew what they were doing when they invented the Hula Burger.
Pineapple on cheese is an infamous combination that I don't think has ever gone together while fish and cheese can work, so I don't know what they were thinking with the hula burger.
The one discontinued fast food item I loved and still miss is the Jalapeno Double from McDonald's. My favorite part was the Jalapeno crisps they added to make the burger really crunchy and satisfying to bite into.
That was my favorite as well when they had it on the menu. Good times 😌
Who is here after the kfc pizza is back‼️

yea because they all died because of all of that fat but it was 100% worth it
Trust me, your recreation of these dishes is going to be way better than the originals. That's the biggest reason everything on here was discontinued aside from financial ROI...
He is a professional chef and these are in no way accurate comparisons. He should be intentionally using lower quality ingredients or suboptimal cooking methods to match how they might have actually tasted.
one ingredient thats impossible to recreate at home is the mayo that restaurants use, the flavor profile is called “Heavy Duty Mayo”. not only is it a better thicker consistancy than typical storebought or homemade mayo, but “Heavy Duty” is a secret generic flavor profile that is formulated to be the best tasting mayo. mayo is a complex balance of ingredients and only the commercial machines get a consistant result and flavor that people want. heavy duty mayo only comes in massive tubs for restaurant use, so its really a gatekept ingredient that commercial chefs have in their arsenal to help elevate sandwiches and have a superior base for sauces. i wouldve liked to see the mcdonald’s snack wrap in this video because honestly a key ingredient is the mayo, not just the chicken and flour tortilla.
He was a profesional chef, all the breading all the sauce all the ingredients was not the same, some recipe they said was amazing sometimes really awful in real product
I think a lot of the more gimmicky stuff was just supposed to get people in the door, not necessarily to make a high ROI.
bingo
The SMILE on Guga’s face when they bit into the “chicken” nuggets was just…it was perfect. Guga, you imp!
Gotta love that Skeletor laugh…
6:36 according to online, the McLobster is still available in the summer times in Atlantic Canada and New England locations whenever lobster is in abundance
It is, and it doesn't look that good nor is it any good
They use imitation lobster for it which is actually typically more expensive
I havbe had one, in the late 70s, early 80s. Real lobster claws and knuckles, no cayenne, just mayo and lettuce. It was really good. I grew up eating lobster rolls at shacks in NH and Maine. I would love to have one right now, sadly inFL, they are way overpriced and a lot of times use spiny lobsters, which are not lobster at all.
In Atlantic Canada we have a Fish & Chips fast food place Called Deluxe that has them year round and it's infinitely better than Mcd's.
@@22qartandmusicI was about to say the probably use imitation lobster

The pizza is back at kfc everybody
The Double Down first came out 15+ years ago. I had it once, it was amazing, but that single sandwich had more calories than I'm supposed to eat in a single day. Shortly after it came out, all the fast food places went through a "let's make everything healthier" phase, like when McDonald's sold salads, and KFC got rid of it for about a decade and brought it back a short while ago for a limited time.
> that single sandwich had more calories than I'm supposed to eat in a single day
In fairness, pretty sure you can say this about 99% of all fast food now LOL
@@xTerrenemore like 50% lol
Actually only had 610 calories
This being in the video was so weird to me because our KFCs in Puerto Rico still have them, and I get it whenever I want to get fucked up by KFC
What I find funny is they're saying "why did they take this out?" if cost wasn't an excuse the company would use, I remember it being an item they KNEW was so bad for you it was released on halloween with a makeshift WILL TO THOSE WHO WILL OUTLIVE YOU being included for the joke. It's not hard to figure out why it didn't last.
Love how Guga just went straight to the point in this video
5:45 the mclobster was discontinued due to employees not cooking the lobster properly and even serving it raw 😬
The triple layer crust pizza from Dominos WILL go down in history as the most underrated discontinued food item. Super disappointed this didn't make the list Guga honestly. It was an option you could get on any pizza which had a 3 layer pizza base with 2 different kinds of gooey cheese between the layers it was AMAZING and it's been longer than 15 years discontinued
McLobsters are seasonal menu items.. coming from a lobster fishing community in canada I confirm that it's only on when lobster fishing season is on. cheers Guga
It's the same here in New England it only comes out during the summer.
im from NS and thats exactly what i was thinking lol, everyone loves them there
What the heck is a mclobster and why can't I get one in the desert? 😲😅
Is it as bad as their lame, flavorless, stamped, pressed, minced fish sandwich thing?
this is a regional item as well. never seen it in the mid west.
@@RRr-yl8zr minced fish sandwich? I don't think the majority of the world has that on the menu, ours is a fully unminced dory fillet
They just brought the Chizza back. It’s currently on the menu! “Two extra crispy boneless chicken filets topped with savory marinara sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese, and a kick of pepperoni.“
its looking interesting
Chizza is just chicken parmesan with pepperoni
@@BanditLeader I think that’s fair. I had the same thought.
And it's back off the menu I had meant to get it because it sounded so good and I missed it. :(

Thank you Guga and crew for another great video! Was trying to avoid this episode just so I wouldn't be bummed on foods of the past but you made it enjoyable. Seen some I haven't tried but will now be recreating at home. Looking forward to some more videos like this.
In Puerto Rico we still have the KFC doble down but here they put Mayo Ketchup and pepper jack cheese. I love it 🤤
8:01 Cayeene Pepper………God Bless You, Guga. I died when I heard Leo say that and the roasting began. Lol
I immediately noticed the "Cayeene" pepper, and just about snorted my coffee out my nose when Leo noticed it 😂
PLEASE DO A PART 2!

@@devilslayer2951to cover more beloved/beloathed discontinued dishes, get his take on how to make it, and his opinion
The hula burger was the original idea for Catholics at Lent. But another store started selling fish instead since they were catholic and thought it would appeal more. It caught on and the fillet of fish was born. Since Catholics at Lent preferred that, the hula burger wasn’t needed anymore.
The McLobster did not sell well outside of certain areas and quickly become unprofitable. McDonald's also supposedly ran into issues with the supply of fresh lobster which only exasperated the cost issues.
Should have use so-called "crab meat" instead, and just offer it once in a while, like the McRib.
I can't imagine McDonald's was getting a hold of super high quality lobster meat in bulk like that. McDonald's are not exactly known for their spectacular meat quality. I gave up on their chicken nuggets like 30 years ago after biting into my 100th gristly, unchewable nugget
Guga calling it the "Cayeene Crystals" to avoid copyright. Genius!
The Taco Bell "Bell Beefer" was great. One of my favorites. But the Taco Bell item I most miss, my hands down favorite thing at TB is the Encharito (besides the standard crunchy taco.)
Guga: "Why did they take this off of the menu?"
The calorie count on most of these items:
the popping tacos should comeback as an anniversary item for Breaking Bad, insane marketing strat

Bruh Leo’s face man when he sees the double down dog. 😂😂😂😂
The way he narrates "this is an abomination" so calmly had me tickled
I'm 2/3rds in the video - and so far the theme is clear. Most of these can come back as "Low(er) Carb/Keto versions". Especially if you replace flour/breadcrumbs with almond or similar low carb replacement.
6:55 Guga you said it yourself! Lobster is expensive! Also 15 dollars? You’d be lucky to get that for 45 dollars! 😂
Yeah, especially considering $15 is what McD's is charging for some of their burgers now, LOL!

@@superguyy4akaamo what is a QPC? I can get a double "club house deluxe" burger (that's what they call the "decent ones" not the big macs in Costa Rica) and the burger only costs $10, $15 if you want the full meal (medium)
Edit: I guess QPC is a quarter pound cheeseburger?
14:31 I laughed so much on there reactions Onion Nuggets🤣🤣
10:20 Well Guga, Be Amazed had a video explaining but the short version is: The finished product looked like a depressing pile of garbage than what was advertised and the sauce combined with the chicken breast made for one sloppy and wet fried chicken breast.
omg the double down! that was SO good! i didn't realize they discontinued it. definitely need to bring it back!
The hotdog comment at 5:30 followed by the clip had me dying for almost the length of the rest of the video haha

5:56 I know why the McLobster was removed. It didn’t sell very well, wasn’t very profitable for the company, & for supply issues. Some people even got sick due to some lobster going bad.
However, you can still get the McLobster in New England (including my home state) in the summer.
How much is it and is it worth it? Wondering if it's real lobster or it's immitation?

@12:08 - Here in New Zealand KFC still do DoubleDowns for about a month once a year. They usually mix it up a bit though too, last ones had a hasbrown in them also. Delicious....
Protip though - Always get them Zinger, the batter holds much better and is less of a mess.

Here in malaysia they had 2 version of double down which one basically had some Korean sauce in it and other one was called double down cheezilla which had a fried mozerella cutlet in the middle. Ordering lobster at McDonalds would be an all time crazy move💀
Lobster was 100% the reason. You need to remember, McDonald's corporate has to think globally when adding an item to the menu. Legend has it that they once considered adding a shrimp item to the menu, then they ran the numbers and they needed roughly 40% the whole shrimp production in the US to meet demands
Props to Leo for pronouncing "Cayeene" exactly the way it was spelled 😂. I got strong Ron Burgundy vibes from him.
The Double down was the best thing ever!!!
Now I'm just reminded the waffle tenders Popeye's did a while back, they could hardly keep them available at any of the locations near me. Came with a honey maple dipping sauce as well.
That Skeletor reference might be the funniest thing i've ever seen in a Guga video!
A couple from Arbys that were discontinued:
ArbyQ, their roast beef smothered with smokeyQ sauce, kinda made like pulled pork on a sesame seed bun.
Meat Mountain : Think this is still served to some degree as a secret menu item? It varies, but the one I'm familar with has two chicken tenders, roast beef, ham, turkey, black angus, corned beef, peppered bacon, big eye swiss, sharp cheddar, and mayo. Think another version had pastromi, brisket, and their fish on a cross cut bun. Other versions on sliced honey wheat bread. Just a pile of meat sandwiched with bread.
The ArbyQ was the only reason I'd ever eat at Arby's
It IS actually a secret menu item! It's made with every meat & cheese they have on a bun. I used to order it fairly often when I worked there, little pricey without the discount but still worth it IMO. They for whatever reason can't promote it anymore, but if you ask for one they usually don't have a problem selling it.
According to the Weird Food History channel, McDonald's discontinued the Lobster Roll when the price of the meat became too high. However, it occasionally comes back like the McRib to McDonald's around Maine, where the meat can be cheaper in a good season.
12:10 I actually had this back when they brought it back for a month back in 2023. Delicious, had it twice, once regular and once spicy. Please bring this back again!
14:55 Taco Bell’s “Sloppy Joe” was called the Bellbeefer and was a favorite of mine. Del Taco still has a version called the Bun Taco and is best when ordered at the original Del Taco locations in Barstow, CA.
They got del taco here in GA too
New York Pizza had a chicken sate pizza (with peanut sauce). Absolutely incredible and probably one off the most ordered pizzas at the time they had this special. They even extended it.
Sadly they stopped with it and never brought it back again.
You should try that one!
One of my greatest childhood memories was fishing with my dad in Halifax on vacation. We had bought fresh lobsters but were so excited we went to McDonald's and had a few of these. Never saw them again except costco used to sell it at least seasonally.
at 4:10 pineapple and cheese is a combination that should never exist you say? Well i got bad news for you: The extremely popular Canadian food called Hawaiian pizza has pineapple and cheese mexed together. Its ranked amongst the most eaten pizza in Canada and was invented BEFORE pepperoni pizza by an Italian who immigrated to Canada. It was the founder of Boston Pizza the popular Canadian restaurant that also made many other inventions such as the pizza cake.
Keep in mind, Hawaiian pizza is not only one of the most popular pizzas in Canada, but across the entire world! Ham and pineapple I personally prefer but that’s basically just Hawaiian with ham.
@@edensarnelli9373 Oops, forgot to mention the ham. but it was invented in Canada. The Hawaiian pizza i mean. Canadians like to use american names and Americans like to use Canadian names such as their Canadian bacon something that almost doesn't exist in Canada.

9:07 chizza is actually very similar to a popular dish in Argentina. Suprema napolitana. It's cutlet chicken with tomato, cheese, ham and oregano. But now I want to try this version
Same here! Actually I want to try both! And the Double Down!
Man, I love that Double Down. Bring it back!
As a Brit, those are more like sausage rolls than pigs in blankets! Pigs in blankets are traditionally had with the full Christmas roast dinner, and are little sausages wrapped in bacon, cooked in with the turkey so it gets all the juices from the roast too :)
Tbh Guga cooking skill makes every thing taste good. because I dont remember eating some of these and think is that good
Back in the late 90s Wendy's had these Fresh Stuffed Pitas. I don't know what it was about them but they had a Chicken Caesar version that was AMAZING with chicken, lettuce, dressing, and coarse shreds of parmesan cheese. That along with a soft and warm pita? To die for.
Yes!! They were the best fast food item! I still miss the chicken fajita pita from Jack in the Box (I've lived in the UK 10 years where the fast food is only super unhealthy and flavorless, so nothing like that here), but that Caesar was the best. Their chili was good, too.
I spent a summer in New Hampshire in the late 90s working at a McDonalds and made the McLobsters while I was there. We never added other seasoning or chives to it, it was strictly bun, lettuce, lobster meat, mayo. It wasn't bad but it definitely would have been better with just a little seasoning.
McLobster is still seasonal in coastal areas here. It's just not popular because you can usually end up getting a normal trio + an extra sandwich for the price of this one alone.
Guga was downright evil with that chicken nugget deception 😂
Try marinating steaks in oyster sauce! My fil taught me that trick and they come out perfectly umami and juicy every time!

If I remember correctly, the McDonald’s Hula Burger was created as a competition between two franchisees to see which would sell better for Lent.
The bad news for the Hula Burger is that it’s competition…was the Filet ‘O Fish. Now I bet you can understand why a fried fish sandwich sold better than a grilled pineapple sandwich.
2 things id love to see them try.... taco bell seafood salad bowl, pizza hut's twisted crust pizza (garlic breadsticks built into the crust)
4:00 Hula Burger looks horrible. However, it's not the pineapple's fault. I had amazing pineapple burgers (but they had meat! and other toppings). Red Robin has a nice pineapple burger as well. But not the best I ever tried. Do a pineapple burger video for one of your channels! 10/10 will highly recommend!
The "Cheeza" in Spain is called "Cachopo Asturiano" and is a traditional dish, basically is the same but the tomato sauce and the cheese is literally inside the chicken and can put some jam or pepperoni too... very delicious 😋🤤
That sounds phenomenal

And has no tomato at all.
Also cured jam is used instead.
While some of these items didn't sell well and were discontinued for that reason, most of these are gone because of the extra material or labor costs involved. In a professional restaurant you want to minimize the number of components, especially components used in only 1 menu item.
"I love this so much, I don't know what to do with my hands." Be line ever 😄
10:30 I remember this. They way how I see it, no taco bell shell or flour tortilla, just the chicken has the breading. I saw it as a low carb option. I'm telling Guga! A "Guga Bell" episode would be dope. Lol
I like how guga doesn’t disrespect the food until trying it . 😊
9:10 Hi Guga, KFC's Chizza is back here in the Philippines! But it didn't come alone, as there are two additional variants: Chizza Double Decker (pizza sauce sandwiched in between two chicken pieces and topped with the usual Chizza toppings) and Chizza Rice (as the name suggests, it's just Chizza paired with rice, and it's available only on the Secret Menu). 🎉
Not fast food, but Red Baron's frozen breakfast pizza. 😭😭😭 It was the best!
Guga did it, they are bringing back the chizza
As of last Monday, the my local KFC has it on the menu.
Funfact Guga
The Pizzahut one still avaliable on some country in South east asia while the Double down is still avaliable in Philiphine
And the Mac Lobster i think still avaliable on some MCD in Norway
Guga should try the Ciabatta Jack in the Box burgers
Carl's Jr also had a Teriyaki Burger, just a burger with teriyaki sauce and a grilled pineapple.
The thing about fast food fish guga. We got a bunch of minimum wage teens not making sure to keep these lobsters in safe eating conditions . Im guessing food poisoning was the reason they took it down, because they couldn't reasonably rely on the young employees to keep the customers safe .
11:20 I’ve worked at many Taco Bell’s and I’ve never seen mayo in any of them lmao pretty sure it supposed to be sour cream
same but i believe it was avocado ranch
It was Avocado Ranch
Favorite video on this channel. Hella fun to watch
My favorite discontinued item is the Cinnamon swirl French Toast Breakfast Sandwich from Carls Jr/Hardees. I loved getting those for breakfast.
7:40 i don't remember when guga did a collab with heisenberg.
As someone who worked at Pizza Hut and had to make those pigs in a blanket pizzas, I’m so glad they stopped making them. It took like an hour to make ten of them.
So I got the story from Today I found out. McDonald's CEO at the time, Ray Kroc, proposed the Hula burger for Catholics to eat during lent. But one of McDonald's managers proposed the Filet o fish instead. Kroc said that he didn't want his restaurants to smell like fish, but eventually offered up a challenge. Both the Hula and Fish would be around for 1 day. Whichever sold more would be a permanent item.
Jack in the Box - Thin sliced sirloin steak sandwich
Burger King - Loaded Steakhouse.
14:35 GUGA GASLIT THEM SO HARD 😂😂😂😂😂😂
*lied to them
Lol that's not what gaslight means 😂
The attempt to use the fancy word failed
4:28 Normal Hawaiian burgers are delicious, but that atrocity deserved to be discontinued
"I have no idea why the chicken donut thingie was taken off the menu.", yeah, I too wonder why...
the double down its so dang delicious !!!
Here in Nebraska we have Taco Johns. They have a “Taco Burger “. It’s similar to the Sloppy Josè
