I have several Parker 61 pens. I absolutely love how this pen writes and love/hate how it fills. I have decided to get several to have a few ink choices. I also have Parker 51s, 41s and 21s. Of this line up, the 61 is by far the better writing and looking pen. I have even grown to appreciate the arrow by the nib which makes it easy to see how to properly grip this hooded pen uncapped. It is hard to believe that the 51 is a more expensive pen. I guess versatility is at a premium. That said, I count my Parker 61 as a grail pen that I would never part with. I even have three that have never been inked, just in case.

It's an amazing pen, and i think the key here is to not change inks often. Stick to one particular ink at all times if possible... It's actually an ease to ink up considering it's "complex" filling system.
Have given this pen to a dear friend of mine.

@@pen_journal Exactly! Instead of changing inks, I have a few 61 pens that I feed with Parker and Waterman inks that are fully dedicated to each pen.

I have 2 of these pens, and had the same reaction you did when I had to figure out the filling system! Both of mine write great, once you get the ink flowing. I only use Waterman Black and Aurora Blue Black. I feel like they were good investments (under $100 on eBay) for a pen that was only in production for a few years. I keep both of mine inked all the time and use them regularly to keep them operable.

Awesome Mara! Yes the filing system can be quite challenging, but if you keep using the same inks over and over again, it's a breeze to load up and refill!

Can you remove the permeable cartridge and replace it with a regular cartridge?
