Except @5:05 you can clearly see 82's stick pretty much glued to Macks hand... So, tripping or hooking... doesn't matter. That gets called every time. I don't see the big deal. As someone who watches every Avs game I can tell you the amount of times people get away with chopping and hooking him is criminal. I'd throw my hands up in frustration too.
The big deal is that Canucks fans have a complex and need to blame the refs. It's like a biological urge for them

Hillariously whenever a canucks game goes into Overtime I usually go to sleep, because I like to be excited to find out the day after to keep my adrenaline. But the avs game I didin't I turned it off after the penalty and knew we lost. I love the canucks but I hate the refs.

That was one of the most frustrating games I’ve seen the Nucks play. We blew a 3-0 lead over to a team who’s .500 on the road and played the previous day. We got into penalty trouble (yes some were soft but still penalty trouble), and then Soucy for the second time this season launched the puck out of play sealing the loss.
They might be .500 on the road but they're 30-5-6 in the second game of back to backs over the last couple of seasons.

Soucy had a complete loss on the situation. He had to know there were less than 10 seconds left. Why did he choose to go up the boards? All he had to do is stop and, perhaps, turn around and make his way behind the bet. Just complete brain fart.

Also, not to look for silver linings, but the canucks have done better and better every game they have against the Avalanche. The scores are getting closer. They're starting to figure them out.
The Avs were Playing on back to Back nights on the Road. The Fact that the Avs Beat the Canucks, One of the Best Home Teams this Year, After being up 3-0, shows that the Avs are still WAY better than the Canucks.

Yep, when they got that powerplay mid-3rd I was thinking "this is one of those score-or-die situations in disguise," and the Avs mounted a beautiful PK topped off with that amazing save. Not to say I didn't believe in the boys to the bitter end (when Soucy took that penalty), but the significance of that moment was immediately clear, and the Avs were able to ride its inertia to the OT win.
Also great editing on the tying goal. Your videos have been great from the start but you keep finding ways to improve. Keep up the great work!

Yes!!! My dad and I were talking earlier this week and I said I would not be surprised if, in the next few years, we have a ref looking at the screens and calling things that way because the game is so fast. Honestly, I would love it.
Great game! The Caps are fighting for a playoff spot so the Canucks better be prepared to play hard for 60 minutes and I am hoping for a 5-4 Canuck win. And please get the power play going.

I've always thought an off-ice ref with a video feed would make a ton of sense, nice to hear somebody else had the same idea. Also, 4-on-3 PPs in OT are terrible and generally just ruin what would have been a great 3-on-3 OT - would be so much better if they just gave a penalty shot instead of a powerplay for all penalties in OT.

If you asked the NHL they would say there is no problem, but officiating is corrupt, and I'm sure rules are bent, calls are missed , and teams are favored to grow the brand, inside politics is real in the NHL

As an Av’s fan, I must say that hit by “Charles” Manson was an illegal one. Funny story. I fell asleep on my sofa when the Av’s were down 3-0. Wake up after the game and saw that they won 4-3. 🤡
My take on ref issue is why they would ignore some of the penalties when they are actually looking at the specific play. The penalty MacKinnon drew, people can argue the stick was high and touch his hand but it was lifted by MacKinnon
I think it’s an issue with video review. In the moment, I’m sure it looked like a genuine penalty (otherwise the refs wouldn’t have called it). There needs to be a ref watching the game on a screen somewhere who can quickly correct any wrong calls.
@@nuckingarounddefinitely, like VAR in Soccer or TMO in rugby. They watch the game on video, and check for any foul play. Then can radio into the refs and tell them about a missed call or to upgrade or downgrade a penalty. It’s a good system that other sports should adopt, and avoids stoppage reviews when the off-ice official can review while playing goes on

Stop making excuses for these overpaid incompetents. NHL refs are straight garbage. The league shields them from rightful criticism and consequences because they're influencing games in the direction the league wants. The league can't outright rig games, but they can and do definitely influence outcomes. Pattern recognition is a neat skill.
Refs don't have a problem, except during Vegas games. They always forget their contact lenses if the Knights are on the ice. The league forgets its own rules with Vegas.

The Canucks didn't play for the entire third period. Just dumped the puck in and changed, then waited for the next wave of Colorado offence. You just can't do that against good teams.

If there’s a referee problem, it’s hockey overall, not just the NHL. Every league in the world, every level of play, every tournament both national and international, every season, there are always deep problems with refereeing. We don’t need “better” referees, we need a revised refereeing system. An additional referee role? Or one more person for the two roles that already exist? Off-ice referees? I don’t know what the solution would be, but there’s no way this refereeing problem is so ubiquitous just because of bad referee individuals. It's the refereeing system at this point.

Don't have the time to watch this full video atm, but to answer the question in the title - yes, absolutely. And it's been this way for years, and seems to get worse every year. I really don't think they are biased, just bad. Stuff like goalie interference is called so randomly these days that the actual rule doesn't mean anything. Calls are frequently missed, then others called too light. It's craziness. Huge mess all around

The answer is simple based upon the violence of the game. It permits and encourages fighting. The players often fight as a way to punish pkayers who cheated in another way. Skill players are not numerous and they get their career ended by dirty players. If players feel they can cheat and get away with it, they will. There are rules. I want to see skilled hockey so apply the rules consistently till the cup is earned.
Just for Context, this was the 2nd Game in as Many nights for the Avs on the Road. They Beat Calgary 6-2 the Previous night. So the Fact that they Won this game shows that they are Going All in, if the Trades they made didn't make that clear.
There was a distinct head butting motion on that AVS OT game winner. It shouldn't have counted... /s

What your analyis did not mention was how dominated the canucks were in the third period. There was an air of inevitability about that loss.
The Avs raised their gsme and suddenly looked very much the battle tested playoff team, and some Canucks looked really out of their depth.
They better learn about how to play in games like that with a killer instinct of their own, or they wont get far.

We've gotten them on hot mics talking about getting make up calls and revenge calls on more than one occasion, among other things. Let alone the fact that they let blatant slashes and things go in every single game, as you said. They are objectively not even trying to do their jobs properly. It is correct to call them out for it.

Basically every game ends with both teams having similar or the outright same amount of penalties called on them too, so it's not like dirty teams actually get punished any more than clean teams. I'm not having it. No other major sport has this problem with their officiating, and when they do then they hold said officials responsible. The NHL is an actual joke in this regard.
Ross Coltons goal was scored after he was tackled and she the guy was still on his back while he was laying on the ice. No referee's arm went up. And the call on the hook on Mackinnon came after two blatant trip were not called. So, yeah, not the greatest refereeing.
