    Connery aged rapidly after 1965. He looked paunchier in YOLT and by DAF forget it. He looked like a 50ish man even though he was only 41.

      I think the lack of the hairpiece adds to it, but still, you are right.

    Connery not wearing the infamous hairpiece, you can tell he hated being Bond at that time.

      Connery also once said that he hated hairpieces. and the one they had in the movie looked bad anyway!

    Trust me-Connery will always be my favorite 007. But his Scottish brogue was more and more evident as time went on. It was more or less absent from Dr. No all the way through Thunderball, but it crept in at points during You Only Live Twice and was readily evident in Diamonds are Forever.

      Connery just didn’t care at this point. He phoned in his performances for the last two movies. Years of getting paid peanuts by Bond’s producers. Plus both films had ridiculous scripts.

    • @Romans8-9
      @Romans8-9 Před 3 lety +7

      @@fanboy2015 He did not get paid peanuts. He donated his entire paycheck from DAF, his highest from one film up to that point, to a Scottish charity. You don't do that getting paid peanuts.

    As a Bond fan, it’s always interesting to see “extras” like this. Pity it involves that crap titled “Diamonds Are Forever.” To this day, it boggles my mind, that we went from the best Bond film of all, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” to THIS! Connery’s worst!
    One notable part of this short piece: Connery is not afraid to be seen in public without his toupee. For him, it was just part of the role. Pity he showed up looking like George Lazenby’s father!

      @@cinemascenes2010 I don’t smoke anything - never have - but I know a good Bond film when I see one. “Diamonds Are Forever” ain’t it! I do enjoy watching them with a vodka martini, though. Sober or drunk, I’ll take a pass on six of Roger Moore’s seven.

    • @thomaschacko6320

      @@cinemascenes2010 I agree with you on “For Your Eyes Only.” As for those others . . . Now I’d like to know what substances you’ve been abusing! Talk about laughable back projection: the fight atop the Golden Gate Bridge; the Three Stooges-style fire-truck chase; the scooter-taxi chase in “India;” Moore atop the private plane; in the double-decker bus . . . Hell, “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” used the process for conversation scenes!
      In any case, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” had a dramatic, cohesive story, along with “From Russia With Love” and “Licence To Kill.” Later on we had “Casino Royale” and “Skyfall.” I wasn’t wild about “No Time To Die,” but it did have a link to “OHMSS.” There’s an increasing number of Bond fans who have come to appreciate “OHMSS,” however belatedly. Yes, that includes the contribution of George Lazenby.

    The "1930" year of birth was fictitious, as even Connery admitted that his family was poor, and in most counties they just didn't have records. My father was Irish, same impoverished county, and had to mug up a birth certificate in order to come to the US. He was actually older than his "birthday" suggested. There are many people with the same situation. I figured Connery to be about 5 years older than what was listed. Look at him in YOLT, definitely 40+ although the listed age is 36 for filming and 37 for release. At the premiere of that film, he looked awful with scraggly hair streaked with grey and a moustache that made him look like a bandolero. Now look at him with a rug at the Thunderball premiere: fit and tan. Between 1965 and 66 he gained 20lbs and aged about 8 years! There's a 1968 interview with Sean with the same stache and no rug, thick, bushy eyebrows and he definitely is over 40 there. Still one of the best actors of all time. Wish Lazenby didn't smoke dope and did 5 more Bond films, Peter Hunt directing Diamonds. Ah well, what is done is done, and that spoiled brat daughter of Cubby has ruined the series.
