    Just a note to all first-time viewers: I missed MANY Easter eggs this first time through. At the end of the playlist you'll find two "addendum" videos where I cover (almost) every one I missed in parts 1 through 8. I appreciate you pointing out ones that I missed in the comments, since some may have still slipped through the cracks, but you may want to wait till you see all the videos first just in case. Thanks for all your support!

      What I want to know is how to use Akama's Shadowmeld Version
      How can I use it? I wish to try it on some custom covert missions
      Edit: Some say the Shadowmeld ability can only work at night (which is true), but this version not only works on a permanent day, but can also automatically go active if they stopped moving

    Strongbad emails were a big water cooler topic at the time we were working on TFT.
    The original idea for the sheep was you had to bring them to different themed rooms and sacrifice them in the correct order to open the portal. It was deemed too difficult and would hide the tower defense level too well.
    The archmages were originally supposed to be invisible, so that's what the dust was for. This too was considered too difficult.

    • @Abelhawk
      @Abelhawk  Před 8 lety +61

      I like that idea for the sheep! I can see why it was taken out, though. Too bad you couldn't have settled for something in between the two in terms of complexity.

    • @DesignerDave
      @DesignerDave Před 8 lety +90

      Honestly I was lucky it wasn't taken away entirely. There were a few who thought the sheep idea in general was too silly, but I reminded them that if you click on any unit enough times, they crack jokes, so... ;p

    • @DesignerDave
      @DesignerDave Před 8 lety +61

      It was to prevent the sheep from getting stuck due to the player doing something dumb. I don't think I had it working properly before it got scrapped.

      The Dalaran dungeons were always a very bittersweet level for me - sweet because of the great atmosphere and the secrets... and bitter because of the global fog effect.
      Back in the day I had a pretty cheap video card and this fog thing was murder for my framerate :P
      Hardware grudges aside, W3: RoC & TFT were among the absolute best games I've ever played (and I say this as someone who has been a gamer since 1991). You have my sincere admirations for a job well done.

    It's worth mentioning that whichever side controls the cage in Mission 4 suffers a production speed penalty. So if you wait until the last minute to reclaim the cage from Maiev, your heroes and the supporting forces will be razing the Night Elf base before the production speed modification becomes significant. This strategy also allows both Kael and Vashj to level up completely which doesn't happen with the conventional approach.

    Here is the thing. The naga are really really cool, and the same goes for the blood elves. Yet when you control both of them at the same time it gets unfocused and difficult to focus. The game really would have benefited by giving them one campaign each.

  • @Duchess_Van_Hoof
    @Duchess_Van_Hoof Před 4 lety +6

    My problems with the Blood Elf campaign is that it is too short and focuses too little on the blood elves as a faction. Where are the balistae, the ranger general? Why are the archers so underwhelming compared to WC2? Why don't they have a proper heavy ground or air unit at all? And why are the naga mixed in here? Can't they have their own campaign as a bonus thing?
    Anyhow, Rise of the Blood Elves is an utterly fantastic fan made campaign that is far better devised. Four heroes in total, unique upgrades to the units, some new units that are rad as heck and fit well in with the rest.

    The "Human" campaign of Frozen Throne is hands down the best campaign *because* it doesn't just hand you a melee map race and say "have at it" it's creative and does something different from the norm. If you wanna play melee map races go play multiplayer :D
    Also a singleplayer campaign will never prepare a person for multiplayer, either by being too predictable or because the AI cheats.

    In "The Dungeons of Dalaran" there's 2 caged spiders in the bottom left corner that are marked as enemies, but if you leave them alone and let them walk to the armor doodads after destroying their cage doors, they will become 2 Spell Breakers.
    Why they're polymorphed as spiders is anyone's guess.

    • @Abelhawk
      @Abelhawk  Před 6 lety +1

      Hmmm, on mine they're spell breakers and priests. Though you did help me discover an interesting point about that area. Apparently it counts how many units you're lacking and supplies you with replacements dynamically. Pretty cool! I'll have to look more into it. Maybe it creates spiders if you already have enough units (as a challenge) and then glitches thinking they're the unarmed elves.

    6:33 - Well, as for how Kirin Tor were able to get stuff from Kalimdor... Humans were taught magic by the Elves who originally came from Kalimdor. They could have brought something with them from their original homeland. And their long life spans also mean that they more likely didn't forget about the land and some of them might have had in in life memory when Kirin Tor was founded. Or maybe they visited Kalimdor later again. I think there is a quest in Winterspring that some High Elves ventured to that land even after the Sundering. Might have happened more times.

    In the 2nd Blood Elf Campaign ( the one with the outlying bases ) It's strangely reminiscent of one of Brood Wars Zerg missions - where clusters of Zerg overrun Kerrigan's Zerg Hives.
    The Mission itself is called "Fury of the Swarm."
    You can check it out if you want. Seems like a direct reference if anything.

    Something that came to my mind recently - the reason Rend and Maim appear on the final mission of this campaign is the unreleased "Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans" game. There is a scene in there, in which Thrall punishes Rend and Maim (for the murder of his parents) by banishing them into another dimension or something like this. And this can explain how they ended up in Outland (where they later becamse Fel Orcs under Magtheridon).

    fun fact in dark covenant, you can save your worker units thus allowing you have more workers than you think you can have by having them run and squeezing them into the smallest nulks or on the south on the dock I believe also the secret mission in starcraft 2 wings of liberty is helpful in both short term and long term because if you obtain the research objectives and complete them, you can get like I think either 3 or 4 protoss and zerg research, which is nice as when you max out your zerg and protoss research line you get money for any other optional zerg or protoss objectives you obtain like 10,000 credits each

    Hi I noticed this Easter egg in the "misconception" in the beach you don't need to ship there. A patch of trees near your spawn point burn it and you can access the beach faster.

    In world editor I found a sound file from chapter 4 where Kael is saying that they have to escort the cage with Illidan back to a draenei village. So I assume they originally planned a bit different mission.

    Chapter 2 A Dark Covenant can be a pain when playing on hard, it can require a long time to finish so here's a little tip for anyone having trouble with this mission:
    -as soon as the missions start, evacuate all your outlying troops and place them as far as they can go (top left corner and bottom right corner), after the first cutscene they will be teleported to your main island
    -mine the goldmines from those bases as much as you can before they get over taken, this way you can afford to build additional farms on your main island and make dragonhawk riders which are crucial for this mission
    -now you have a pretty strong 3/3 army consisting of your surviving units, nagas and dragonhawks. with this army you can basically go around the map and destroy purple and orange bases, kill neutrals and grab few gold coins lying around in crates. take your time with this, and eliminate any green flyers coming to your main island with your hawks
    -DO NOT build or expand on any of those outlying bases because if you do, the green base will get 3/3 upgrades in a span of few seconds (like warpten) and will start attacking you with ground units + dreadlord; otherwise the green base will remain 0/0 trough out the whole mission
    -always let the nagas tank and if you've done everything right and didn't lose a unit your army should be around 70-80 supply. To make the final fight even more easier make sure to have scrolls in your inventory and healing wards and you can stomp the green base without losing a single unit

    @mr.fartworthy6818 Před 7 lety +8

    On chapter two. I don't think it's an easter egg though more of a pretty neat mechanic. If you move all your units in the outlying bases to the very far side of the map(to safety) and after all those bases are destroyed, the cutscene plays and after that all your units you saved will be teleported to your base. I wonder if you guys also did it too? :D

    • @Abelhawk
      @Abelhawk  Před 7 lety +7

      Yeah, I've done that while playing that level! The bases themselves are doomed, but it spares all the units that survive after the onslaught.

    Founding of Durotar
    I played it properly and found out that you can make your heroes endlessly strong in Act I and Act II, but it's cheaper in Act I.
    That's it's own easter egg.

    • @lukenukem8028
      @lukenukem8028 Před 5 lety

      Also, I think the campaign is an easter egg since it was a precursor to World of Warcraft gameplay, though better since there is no stat limit.
      When you pretend it's WoW, it makes it more fun. Don't be in a rush to finish the quests.
