      stemple11100 It’s implied that he’s of Romany descent, on Dots side. Dot Cotton I think was a Romanian or other Eastern European Jewish descendant from the turn of the century. A lot of Russian & Eastern European Jews escaped the Tsarist secret police purges & came over & settled in the East-End.

    John Altman is a fine actor and a British Legend.
    His character of 'nasty' nick was unforgettable. Poignant ,powerful, controversial (of course)....but NEVER dull. Fascinating to watch at all times ,and sometimes quite moving even. Legend!!! Such a hard act to replace. Eastenders will miss him .

    Shane they didn't keep nick like this. Nick was alot younger and was harder back then but not compared to Den or some older men. But if he was like this in 2000 after prison he would have been hard and a proper villain not a weakling scared of people. It's interesting that they made Nick Cotton out as someone with history as a member of the BNP/NF. I think this kind of storyline would be brilliant now but I can imagine too many labour supporters would call in to complain and politicians desperate to make themselves look good, condemn it

      Racism should have no tv exposure other than to condemn it. I'd advise any racist to beware of karma, look what happened to jade goody. A terrible fate even befalls a fictional racist, nick got checked of roof by mark fowler and killed by his own mum

    • @fingerscrossed2453
      @fingerscrossed2453 Před 4 lety

      I think its important to show it in a hard hitting manner like this. The offhand way nick displays his prejudiced beliefs is powerful because it exposes that there were political movements / activists who were organised and motivated because of their beliefs (which is obviously dangerous, but should not be ignored). Also, to him they are ordinary.
      Showing that it's always condemned is like pretending it no longer exists.
      Unfortunately today it's whitewashed (excuse the term. No pun intended I can't think of another word), to the point that it's almost become institutionalised.
