- I took the chance to play around with the new ultralight tent, the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2. I was super curious with what a semi-freestanding tent worked. I was happy to see it is very doable and is a very good ultralight tent. I would easily take this on a long trip.
The Tiger Wall UL tents are Big Agnes' lightest two door/two vestibule, technical backcountry shelters yet. The two doors make tent life a little easier, and the weight savings is especially nice when out for multi-day trip and gram counting. Combining simple, yet strong single pole architecture with DAC Featherlite materials, interior storage pockets, and comforts around every corner, these tents are poised to be a backcountry favorite.

Hi Rei. I use Zing-it for a lot of my gear, but I use the Niteeyz cord too. I love the super thin and strong UMPHE type cord but sometimes I like to make knots and find the super thin stuff not as easy. The best stake I feel is the MSR Groundhog, But I also have 12 inch Easton stakes. Nothing beats length if you are in high winds

Love my Tiger Wall. My only criticism is that you have to be very careful when zipping the rainfly up or down or the fly fabric will get caught in the zipper.

You might try staking out the ends of the fly separate from the foot end, seems like a small increase in ventilation and keeps it from sagging

Now would you own one of these over the prestigious Hillebergs?
I wouldn't have a problem with this tent in normal conditions. Forests and protected areas. They are light, and have proven themselves pretty well. But for more extreme open, above treeline, heavy rains and snow I would go with the Hilleberg. And they only add a pound to get higher performance. But for established trails like the AT I would go with this. Now the price difference of about $300 more, or $200, because I would probably go with the Copper Spur HV over this tent, I could justify that. I do love all of these tents, and I tarp, and hammock year round. So this is my hobby and I put money into it. Just need more time. How about you?
I personally own a Hilleberg and a Hennessy as well as a mesh tent for those really warm days. I overall prefer the versatility of the Allak I own in the windy climate where I live and its superior build quality to any tent I've seen. Just now looking for an uberlight option to my allak and am intrigued by the Niak, Unna or a pyramid tent like a MLD duiomid or HMG Ultamid. It just needs to perform in windy cond.
Pulled the trigger on the Tiger Wall. $319. Eager to see the package arrive on my porch!
My guess is that with these tents with very light weight fabric floors most folks end up carrying a footprint to protect the floor. So if you add this extra weight, why not just make the tent floor a heavier fabric? Answer my own question - so the manufacturer can crow about their "total light weight". Well, it's sort of the total weight...
I totally agree with you. I use Hillebergs a lot and they use the heavier fabrics and no need for footprints. I suppose if you were real careful and brought along some tenacious tape you would be fine though for a few years.
Is it 2.8 lbs with or without the footprint?
Without a fly, I see now that the newer Platinum is 2lbs, 4 oz though

@@christurnbull2481 Yes it looks like it did well with the thru-hikers last year and is looking like a winner for this years group as well. Where they put the crossbar is perfect and if 2 people had to spend a day out of the rain in it, it would be doable
