How to change the oil on a 2006 Yamaha Raptor 700r
First step: Pull out the oil dipstick from the oil tank.
Second step: Take off oil filler cap located on the right side of the engine.
Third Step: Remove the drain bolts.
    A. One is on the bottom of crank case near the middle. Might need to take off the skid plate to access the bolt.. This will drain the oil from the crank case. The size is 22mm, but I've also seen it be a 21mm.
    B. The Second drain point is on the bottom of the oil tank. This lets the oil to drain from the oil tank. This is usually a 12mm but there are cases where it strips and has to be tapped out to a 13mm. Skid plate may need to be removed again, you can drill a hole for future access.
    C. Third one should already be opened, that one's the bottom bolt holding on the oil filter cover.
Fourth Step: Wait for the oil to completely drain. Make sure you're on a level surface. Once you drained out the oil put all your drain bolts back in (If you are replacing your filer as well you will put the cover bolt back in when filter is replaced). The torque is 17ft lbs for the crankcase drain bolt, 13ft lbs on the oil tank bolt therefore doesn't need a lot of force. BE VERY CAREFUL when you're tightening the bolts, the crank case drain bolt is known to strip easily.
Fifth step: If you're swapping the oil filter this is the time to do it. If you're leaving it, then put the oil filter bolt back. Torque is 7.2ft lbs on the oil filter drain bolt.
The oil filter's on the right side of the quad, behind a cover that's held in place by 3 bolts. The lower bolt should already be removed in your last step when you drained the oil. All thats left is to take off the remaining 2 bolts on the top and pull off the cover. Be careful not to pinch the O ring when removing or installing the cover. Check for any damage to the O ring and replace it if necessary before you put the cover back on.
Sixth step: Clean the inside of the oil filter housing with a clean rag or paper towel and replace the oil filter. Make sure, the open end of the filter faces the motor and the closed end facing the cover. The o-rings are part of the filter so replace them with the new ones in the filter package.
Seventh step: Put the oil filter cover back on, being careful not to pinch the O ring. Upper two are the long ones and the shorter one goes on the bottom.
Eighth step: Once you drained all the oil, replaced the filter and tightened everything back up, you're now ready to pour in the new oil and there's some things you need to know before you begin.
    A. I posted the recommended capacities from the owners manual, just note that all atvs are slightly different and might require more oil than specified. To be on the safe side buy 3 quarts, that way if you need more its there to use ans also oil won't go bad.
Here's the oil capacities in the service manual.
    Overhaul
    Total amount
    2.30 L or 2.43 US qt
    Quantity in oil tank
    1.30 L or 1.37 US qt
    Quantity in crankcase
    1.00 L or 1.06 US qt
    Periodic oil change
    Total amount
    1.75 L or 1.85 US qt
    Quantity in oil tank
    1.30 L or 1.37 US qt
    Quantity in crankcase
    0.45 L or 0.48 US qt
    Oil and Filter change
    Total amount
    1.85 L or 1.96 US qt
    Quantity in oil tank
    1.30 L or 1.37 US qt
    Amount in crankcase
    0.55 L or 0.58 US qt
    B. I recommend using a full synthetic oil in your high performance machine, I've been using AMSOIL for many years now and couldnt be any happier with their products!! What brand of oil do you prefer?
    C. Use fully synthetic 10w30-10w50 depending on ambient temperature, make sure it's the wet clutch type.
Add oil to the crankcase and oil tank. If you're swapping the filter out then it's easy as putting half a quart into engine and quart and half into oil tank. If you're doing an overhaul or just oil without filter replacement, refer to chart.
Change the oil tank dipstick as well as the crankcase filler cap (torque is 8.7ft lbs). Start the engine and give it time to heat up . Once its warm, shut it off and check the oil level. You will have to Remove the dipstick, give it a wipe with a paper towel or cloth . Proceed by inserting the dipstick back into the oil tank, ensure you dont screw it in. Check the oil level ; you may require to add oil to tank.
Based on owner's manual (8-10 to 8-14) you are finished:

Yamaha's service manual has an extra step to guarantee the engine won't seize by making sure the oil pump has not failed and you did not put the oil filter backwards. Loosen the oil gallery bolt and idle engine until oil is coming out. Tighten to 7.2 ft. lb. For more details see (3-24 part 16) of service manual.

Thanks man, learning all this editing stuff is a lot of work. Pretty fun once you get the hang of it, thank god for CZcams though, without seeing editing how to videos I'd still be cropping clips in a linear editor lol

raptor 700 Studio TV Hey man thanks for the imput :) we followed the manual step by step for a 2006. Maybe you have a different year but this is the correct way to change the oil on a 2006. I left a full tutorial in the description with all the specs you'll need. Ps. Nice Raptor 😉

Lol I see what happened here, Yamaha's steps varied between owner's manual and service manual. It left out the step to check pressure at the head. It's more of a precautionary step to make sure the filter's in properly but it's easy enough to do there's no reason they should've left it out of owner's manual. I'm glad someone brought it up, Updated my description and added the step in with links to both manuals in case anyone is interested :D
