    Thanks a lot for filming this. I was cleaning out a valve bore gunk with a few wipes of scotch brite and started to worry in hindsight that I may have damaged it since some people say that anything abrasive is an absolute no go, even though the bores look fine. It's good to see that you even hone them and sand the valves themselves.

    • @CurmudgeonTransmission
      @CurmudgeonTransmission  Před rokem +3

      If you are very careful with them and don't get radical you can. Different things for different valves, but Scotch Brite is good choice. I would use it over sand paper in most cases. I only use a hone in most cases to get a sleeve to slide in easier. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you very much for your video! You really know how to explain things very well and easy to follow! If you don’t mind, I was wondering with your expertise if I could get your opinion…I recently lost R, 3 , 5 . When I removed the trans cover on my 2012 traverse and got to the drum. The wave plate was still there and looked ok. Could a not fully functioning valve body be the culprit of this loss of R, 3 5?

    • @CurmudgeonTransmission
      @CurmudgeonTransmission  Před 16 dny

      It's possible you could have a vb problem. I would put the drum on the end cover and air check it. I would bet you have either a bonded piston problem or something wrong with the drum. Regardless of where the problem is, replace that cushion plate while you are in there.

    Sir, i have a U151E, it just started slipping and ramming back and forth into gear, then it lost all front gears but reverse worked, i got an overhaul kit with friction clutches and steel plates, new gaskets, orings, seals etc, after the mechanic replaced them all, it was still doing the same thing, transmission fluid had never been changed before but could a clogged valve body be the cause? If he cleans it do you think it it could come right? Im in debt, i cant afford to buy a new transmission, im praying it works.

    • @CurmudgeonTransmission
      @CurmudgeonTransmission  Před 4 měsíci

      It's a good possibilty that there are valves stuck in the valve body. Especially if the planetaries broke like they usually do.

    What a great video, Thank you! I have an 06 Buick Lucerne with the 4t65e trans and I believe I may have a sticking valve. It has intermit harsh shifts but only has 1-3 gears, No 4th gear. No codes, fluid condition is good. Trans does not slip. Any recommendations as to which valves I should check or what other condition may cause no 4th gear other than the stripped splines on the hub? Engine runs great and no codes have reset after a 7 mile test drive. Manual 1-3 work normal (with firm shift). I believe there is only a 1-2 and 2-3 shift solenoid and no 3-4 shift solenoid. Thats why I was thinking possible accumulator or valve issue.

    Hi. This is really great stuff here. Thanks a million. Ive got an xc90 t6 which has a wiring / electrical issue we're diagnosing but I have a xc90 d5 as well with tf-80sc transmission which has flaring in 4th and 5th. I have normal shifting from 1-3 and reverse is fine but from cold, it starts with minor flaring, hitting 4000rpm in both 4th and 5th gears. I opted not to drive it and in the past, I've done atf draining and topup twice, since I received it, which greatly improved the performance. So it seems like the dirt is in the VB. Can you advise if this seems probable and I've heard about the updated vb in the 2008 xc90 but have no idea what this update entails.

    • @CurmudgeonTransmission
      @CurmudgeonTransmission  Před rokem

      These valve bodies are horrible about wear. Will give you the symptoms you are talking about. There was an update around 2010 I believe if I am not mistaken. It also has an updated computer. They are not interchangeable.

      You really only have 2 options. The best option is to buy a new VB. If you want to buy all the reamers and kit to repair the solenoids you can go that way. You will spend more than a VB costs for the first time doing it. After that you MIGHT save money. I have done them. You only have about a 50/50 shot of it coreecting all the problems. And it takes a ton of time to do it. The only other option is buying one that has been rebuilt. If you are going that route I would buy Sonnax. There are other people that sell the tools, you will just need to do a search. Here is one you can check out. maktrans.ae/09GSBTOOL

    Would you know what parts fail the most on a 2006 mazda 3s automatic transmission ?

    • @CurmudgeonTransmission
      @CurmudgeonTransmission  Před 2 lety +1

      When parts fail, they all do. These tend to wear out the servo bore for the band. How long it gets driven after that will determine how much damage is done.

      @CurmudgeonTransmission  Před rokem

      It could be a few things. Those switches tell the Techm when the gear it has commanded applies. If it doesn't do it then you will get a code. So it either has not applied or it thinks it hasn't. You can plug the Techm into the harness and watch on the scanner to see if manually pushing on the switches to apply them changes their status. If they still don't then you have a bad Techm, if they do you have a problem in the transmission or valve body.

      If you are operating a transmission (or any mechanical) shop, you want the job done right the first time. First of all, if the "cleaning" only fixes the problem for a few weeks then the customer is going to tell everyone that you do bad work. Second, When they come back in a few weeks (after insisting you do the "cheaper" repair) they are going to expect you to warranty your first quick fix. Come-backs are a way to go out of business fast. This video instruction is for the do-it-yourselfer that wants to try to avoid a costly rebuild and get a little more life from an aging transmission.
