    When I was growing up in Johnson City, we called it the Gump Addition.

    I'm born and raised in Johnson City. I know the area of Gump, but I've never heard it called Gump nor did I know about the Gump farm. Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to look it up. My father was a brick mason, so I've helped build many homes in Round Tree, Stone Ridge, and many other subdivisions and other buildings. I love our city and area.
    As far as the Tree Streets, my grandmother lived at 433 W. Poplar Street from 1968 until 2004. I wore the streets out on my bicycle when I was a kid, and went to the original Southside elementary school for a couple of years.

    The home prices are too expensive for us. We can only afford houses in the $300,000's. We are retired. We can afford a 2100 sq ft home in Texas in our price range even though the property taxes are much higher. Everything about Johnson City is very appealing, especially the weather, since the temperatures here are over 100° even after the sun goes down. The beautiful mountains and having 4 seasons is extremely appealing. Yeah, it's like a little bit of hell here for months and doesn't start to cool off until the end of October or early November. I'm truly disappointed the prices for homes are so high there. I also need to be close to a city like Knoxville because I'm a cancer patient and need exceptional oncology care. We already live in a small town of about 34,052 in East Texas and I was hoping to get in an area that offered more shopping, entertainment, and restaurant choices than we have here. Driving a couple of hours to the Houston area or the Tyler area to shop gets old, especially the traffic. Thanks for the informative videos.

    I've noticed in watching some of your videos on homes, that there are not any fences that i can see. Is is something that not done in neighborhoods in Tennessee?

      There are many homes in the area that have fenced backyards. Thank you for watching our channel and commenting.

    What are the RE taxes on a 500K home down there? I'm in Illinois and looking for a house in Tn. I use 500K as an arbitrary number. Up here, the RE taxes run 2 1/2 to 3% of the last sale price on an annual basis. Thanks

      Here is a good rule of thumb in our area. In the city you would pay city and county taxes. Approximately 1 percent of the homes assessed value. In the county you would only pay county taxes. Approximately .5 percent of the homes assessed value.

    What about 55 and older communities?

    • @LivinginJohnsonCityTennessee
      @LivinginJohnsonCityTennessee  Před rokem

      Many of our patio homes and villa communities tend to be residents over 55. We don’t have an abundance of over 55 communities or gated communities like some cities do.
