    You mentioned very good reasons. And I guess it works well if you're only going to use a single regulator. But what about gas changes or the need to use a second reg for other reasons - tear it off and go looking for a half-mask in a pocket? If your reason for going to your second is any kind of an emergency, I doubt complicating the situation with a mask change as well would be advisable. No one in our club (also in Norway) uses full-face mask. Some use rebreathers, but everyone uses a half-mask and I don't usually get too bothered by the cold water. Toes and finger tips generally bother me first.

    I have reason number 6: Once I was diving about 2 meter above the buttom of the seabed, and looking down at the buttom. At some point I raised my head to look forward a swam right into a burning jellyfish! I pulled my head away, only to draw the jellyfish right into my entire face. My face was BURNING and swollen in a way you can't believe.
    I promised myself right there to get a full-face mask, and never use anything else again.

    How do you equalize your ears with a full face mask

      There's a "V" shaped nose block, you can also wiggle your jaw, or any other method that you'd use w/ a normal regulator

    Thanks for the information, I have questions
    What happens when/if water gets in, does it have a flush mechanism ?
    Does it consume more air than a regular regulator ?
    Cheers ~

      full face masks all have a purge mechanism, just like a normal second stage regulator does.
      they also don't consume any more air than a normal second stage regulator, as you don't breathe any more air when using it.

      As I understand, The Incoming Air is blown into the Eye section. Then goes into the Mouth/Nose section. Keeping the Mask from Fogging. Like a 3M FF Respirator does.

    Sounds much more dangerous in an out of air situation. But instead you mention it being better if you become unconscious. I'll worry more about the former.

      well you need to have a second regulator if this one fails or you want to share air

      Do you not already use a second regulator for emergencies just like that. Same thing.

    Curious if there's a difference in air consumption rate with full face mask?

    • @Christian_Wedoy

      No

    • @achilles6312
      @achilles6312 Před 2 lety +5

      it depends, for most people, they're sac rate increases because air is lost through the seal (in the video this happened at the 1:06 mark) this wouldn't happen with a normal regulator. However, if you have a good seal, you can have SAC rates that match or even beat your normal regulator buddies.

    • @markhickson9087
      @markhickson9087 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, not least because the regulator aren't as good as modern regs. There is also a higher CO2 level.
      The only real advantage is extra protection in contaminated water.
      The nonsense about you reg doesn't fall out (which happens when?), is more than offset by out of air situations (either from equipment failure or gas management problems) where you then need to ditch not only your reg but also your mask. Turning a medium incident into a major one!
