Probably Tales of Berseria...
Tales of Berseria for sure. The tales games have been some of my favorite games for decades, and berseria is the most fun I've had with one since abyss. And even as just a prequel, it does a fatastic job in explaining why the world of zesteria is the way it is.
Tales of Berseria for sure. I dont know why people always said Tales of Vesperia is best Tales game. Berseria is my no.1 and Symphony is very very close at no.2

Baten Kaitos origins (prequel to Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings) is really epic, especially if you have played Eternal Wings. I was so mindblown when I learned the reality about Malpercio (one of the antagonist of Eternal Wings). It's really wild ahah.
Baten Kaitos is games I really need to play! Although it sounds and looks epic!

I actually completely forgot Star Ocean: The Last Hope is even a prequel (I guess anything after 3 is lol). I just remember wanting to dropkick Lymle out of the airlock while yelling, "It's not 'kaaaay." The Last Hope does have one of the best Heroic BSOD moments since Wild Arms (as in, a moment where the hero completely breaks down due to events, plot twists, etc.).

I do love Ys Origin, I liked to see the link with Ys 1 and 2. You talked a lot about Link in Xenoblade Chronicale, I did not know he was a character in that game! 😁
My favorite prequel, are Lufia 2 and Dragon Quest 3 :) yeah I am a retro gamer, are you surprise? lol

It is recommended to play Zesteria before Berseria, despite Berseria being the first one chronologically. You'll appriciate characters such Eizen and Zavied in Berseria more if you'll play it first. Also the thing is, that Zesteria will tell you some detials about the past that you'll learn in Berseria are untrue. (Berseria is 1000 years prior, so many things were lost their meaning through time, which is exactly how history works IRL, which is very great touch)

Top prequel JRPG for me is Baten Kaitos Origins. Best JRPG, much better than the first BK. You all need to play it!

So…You think we’ll get a Harvestella prequel? Haha. Like don’t we just *all* want to know Aria’s full backstory in realtime? (*I jest, in case not clear to the masses, haha) . Also, truly enjoyed Ys origins. (A quick play for me, which is a miracle;) …oh! stranger of paradise is in my backlog - gotta get to it, though, yeah, a wee bit intimidated 🤷🏼♀️great picks and vid, btw :)

Currently playing Crisis Core. And is good. 8/10 so far. The combat is decent, basically Kingdom Hearts BBS without jumping. Although I didn't beat FF7 yet, I've stopped at the end of Disc 1 and might go back for it after beating Crisis Core. I already got spoiled about the twist with Cloud and Zack so I'm fine playing Crisis Core without beating FF7 (Can't blame people. Expecting them to shut up about 17 years old game is very unreasonable)

My favorite prequel is one many people are currently waiting on, Dragon Quest 3. I'm really curious how they are going to handle the project, as the build-up and eventual reveal is extemely strong IF you have the context from DQ 1 & 2.
Ys Origins is a fantastic weekend play!
Most of these are in the backlog! I've heard tons of good things about Berseria. Would it be a suitable starting point for the series?

My brain could not make a single connection between Berseia and Zesteria besides Zaveid and Maotelus even though I knew going into it they were connected
The Seraphim and Malakim are the same. It makes sense if you know Hebrew or Arabic because their meaning is the same in those languages (means "Angel"). Berseria basically shows how The Malakim became a legend, and unlike what Zesteria tells you, they didn't live in harmony.
I started seeing stuff like that. I just loved both games haha
wow I didn't know Berseria was a prequel to Zestiria and I was planning to play it! I've not heard good things of Zestiria but do you think I should play it before or is it fine to go with Berseria?

Berseria was meh...
What makes a good jrpg is how likable the characters are cuz if you don't like the characters you wouldn't care about their goals.... Being one of the tales with the lowest cast only 2 were great: aizen and magilou, the rest were were either stupid or deplorable, i couldn't even bother remembering their names and i platinumed the game 😅 and oh yeah, the battle system was okay.
*spoilers*
The protag was all about revenge for her brother which turns out he agreed to being a sacrifice, then she wanted revenge for her sister which turned out was an accident then she wanted revenge for herself being caged.... Which at that point was a necessity to save the world... So why does the player need to care about her revenge??
The swordman apparently wanted revenge because he became a fiend after he brother defeated him in battle..... Turns out he was a p1ece of sh1t who was jealous of his brother inheriting the family heritage, he made ploy to disgrace him and get an opportunity to execute him but his bro spared his life which he couldn't accept.. 😅
The white mage with a spear is just an idiot. She literally makes excuses about the party when they turn whole villages into fiends or attack food supply which may starve whole villages but somehow can't forgive the order when they hold some people as sacrifice to absorb impurity(which is necessary to maintain order).
The small spirit kid, just a horny brat for the protag(well, she walks around with torn up clothing), then later on acts annoyed cuz he wasn't getting the attention he wanted...
Aizen and magilou were the only interesting characters. A spirit who only cast misfortune on others but that doesn't discourage him to be a pirate and search for valuable treasures and a black mage whi reject her heritage to be oart of the order cuz the training was grueling but hides her grueling past and tries to makes jokes as much as she can.
