Excellent video, demonstration and explanation. Fancy treadling with the foot, starting and stopping with one hand, sewing one-handed with the *same* hand and filming with the other? That's some kind of spooky magic right there - like playing three instruments in the orchestra at the same time and conducting it!! And that machine sews like a dream too. What a treat to see - thank you!

Ah yes it was a bit tricky, I wasn't thinking about it at the time, but I'm sure if I tried that again I would completely mess up 🤣

Thank you so much for this video. I've just bought (rescued) a beautiful 1895 27k complete with table and am enjoying using her. Neither the treadle or the machine had been oiled for 25 years (previous owners had just used it as hall table) so finding out where to oil the treadle has been really useful - it's much better now! The machine needed a new face plate (and the removal of 128 years of dust/lint/thread from behind it), new tension assembly and faceplate to brighten her up a bit. I've got her purring like a kitten now and am about to attempt my first cushion cover with her. I wanted to know how to slow treadle and this has really helped. Thank you.

That sounds so exciting! It's always such a great feeling once a machine is cleaned and purring away.
Thank you very much, I'm glad the video has helped 😁

Just what I needed. Great detail. I used to treadle when I was a child but since I’ve tried as an oldie, I was not successful! I’m going to have another go with your help. Best video I’ve found.

Thank you so much. You will find your own rhythm and it also depends what type of chair you use. If I am using my saddle stool I can use both feet, but if I'm on my wheelie chair I only use one foot 🥰

So useful and I'm only 8 minutes into the video. I recently bought a 99k Singer and just gave it a thorough clean, defluff and oil but wasn't sure what to do about the treadle peddle. I oiled it as demonstrated and what a difference!

So glad to hear 🥰 Treadles do not need oiling as often as a machine - I oil mine every 4 or 5 months, or when it starts to sound noisy. I tend to hoover it a lot just to keep the dust off it - dust and oil is a gloopy combination!
Have fun with your 99k, they are great machines 🥰

Thank you for your video. It helped me a lot to figure out how to use my treadle machine. I learnt on one decades ago and recently decided to get one.

Using a treadle is lovely. I love treadle sewing. Once you get the rhythm going you just get better and better, it becomes so natural. Really pleased to hear you have one and I hope you enjoy it 😁😁😁

Great video and thanks for pointing out where to oil and grease treadle base. I personally prefer using both feet, one is a bit forward the other a bit backwards which helps to stop (pushing both)and no need to use our right hand to stop/start. From time to time when I need to use the hand wheel to start, I sometimes pull the belt instead of the hand wheel so that no finger is at risk. Most of time I slightly rock the treadle back/forth to get the feeling of which direction is the right way to start and no need to use my hand to turn the hand wheel.

Great advice. I thought my treadle was oiled enough, especially since it wasn't noisy, but I felt like it took too much effort on start up and keeping a smooth rhythm. I got on the floor and oiled a bit more, and it is now much easier. I also only use one foot. Being tall, two legs was too cramped.

It's always good to drop a few blobs of grease on the bearings too, especially if you wheel feels stiff 😁
