  • I've seen some complaints about the cel shading style of the animated figures. Personally I do like it, but I thought I'd try to de-cel(or maybe it's de-animate?!) shade Storm and it came out pretty well I think!

    Thanks for the tips! I’m looking to buy the just announced VHS Cyclops as my comic Jim Lee Cyclops and his cell shading might be objectively the worst of the line so far (except maybe Jubilee). Best thing about Cyc seems that most of the shading isn’t close to painted parts, it’s mostly on just solid molded plastic so hopefully it should be easy to remove.
    Although I’m sure once I go to all that trouble they’ll announce a retro card Cyclops without the shading and with optic blast parts, multiple heads and a swappable jacket. That’s what they do.

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  Před rokem +1

      That's TOTALLY what they do haha! I personally don't mind the cel shading so much because I think it's a neat effect, but I know it really just isn't for everyone. And yeah it looks like it should reasonably easy to remove for Cyc. I'm still trying to figure it out for Jean. It's definitely not nearly as straightforward, but I think I'll give it a go anyway!

    Mix the acetone with the water. It dilutes the acetone and won't be as potent

    You definitely know what you are doing better than I am in regards to this video but just as a small suggestion that you may or may not have considered for removing paint, Instead of the sheets or fine brush dipped in the acetone have you tried using Qtips instead ? I imagine those would be perfect for this and especially when it comes to removing stuff from tighter space or smaller areas.

      @ComicallyToys  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I actually need to do Jubilee soon! I've just got so many videos in the queue that I need to do, but stay tuned! Otherwise I'm reasonably confident that the jacket is the lighter yellow, not the mustard yellow. So as long as the lighter color is what you're looking for then you should be fine!

    Unfortunately the manufactures hate all white toys, they figure that kids will find them boring. 1st noticed it with the Space 1999 Dinkey Eagle Transporters. You could have metallic green or metallic blue but not the actual white from the show.

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  Před rokem +1

      I've never fully understood the logic of toymakers back then. But I have to think they were channeling the adults that were buying them for kids. For me, I was a huge Power Rangers fan as a kid, but I was only ever gifted the male figures. For me, the show was about a team so I wanted the female figures too, but I never got them. I was so frustrated! Luckily as an adult I can make my own darn decisions on the figures I get!
      Another example, about Power Rangers, but also to your point: there was a robot that had a white arm to represent the white ranger that piloted it. That's what we saw in the show, but for the toy version they made it pink instead. It was so infuriating. It's funny that even as a kid I so badly wanted it to be screen accurate!

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  Před rokem +1

      Did you use acetone or the brush cleaner? In some later videos I learned that different body parts are made with different plastics as well and those plastics take differently to chemical removers.

      @ComicallyToys  Před rokem

      That makes a lot of sense and i wouldn't be surprised if that's true. Though I'd say it's hard for that to come off as silver on a printed page since usually they well use some kind of sparkle(like sun reflecting off of it) to indicate something is shiny. Because at least to me, her costume appears white in the comics.

      Well like I mentioned in the video, the original release is more of a pearl rather than a white. It may not come off on camera very well, but in real life there is quite a bit of difference. People may actually prefer the fully white one over the pearl.
