How To Make Your Own Whipped Soap Base From Scratch!

- DIY Foaming Bath Butter, Whipped Soap Base FROM SCRATCH! FULL RECIPE! This stuff is amazing! It's a light fluffy soap! And, you can use it to suspend exfoliants in as well (sugar, pumice, coffee, etc.). You can create so many different types of scrubs; choices are endless!
RECIPE: 5 ounces purified water, 5 ounces glycerin, 3.5 ounces coco betaine, 1.5 ounces steric acid, 8 ounces sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (or sodium lauryl sulfate, or sodium cocoyl isethionate), & 3 grams preservative. I used optiphen for this project, however since this tutorial I have learned that a better choice is germall plus (linked). The rest of the ingredients (exfoliants, oil/butter, & fragrance oil) are optional. Once the first 5 ingredients have been mixed together, heat mixture so that ingredients sufficiently melt & blend together (microwaving for 5 minutes is easiest). After heating, the soap mixture should be smooth & grit-free. Check for grit by rubbing some of the mix between your fingers- (where gloves). If it still feels gritty, place it back in microwave for 2 minutes at a time, stirring after each session until it is grit-free! Cool soap mixture to cooler than 140 degrees, then add a preservative. Cool & harden soap fully (like Shea/Cocoa butter) before whipping it. You can leave it set over night, place it in fridge, or use an ice bath! SAVE SOME! This made a big batch, so only use the amount that you need. Store the rest in a container. It stores up to a year Then take some out & whip it good -about 10 minutes. Once soap mix is fluffy thick & stiff - it is done. ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: You can add 1 ounce of fragrance oil to the recipe (I used a small fraction of recipe, so I added 2 teaspoons). You can also add oil/butter to this recipe; if using butter, melt & cool to room temperature before adding to soap! EXFOLIANT: Add the exfoliant slowly (little by little) until desired consistency is reached. WHIPPING ISSUES: I had some issues in the whipping phase; soap wasn’t getting stiff. I added 1 tablespoon of corn starch at a time, probably 3 times, & the soap whipped right up! However, this was around the time I added sugar, too... So, I don’t know if it was the starch, the sugar, or plain old whipping, or a combo of all of them that finally did the trick, but I finally got it to fluff up & stay stiff! COLOR: Divide soap into as many colors that you want. Add color to each (any type), then put all of them in a piping bag for beautiful & colorful soap swirls! RESULTS: The soap stays whipped up, in position no matter how long it sits. If left uncovered the soap will be still usable, just a little stale on the outer edges. *** I used mason jars, but others (linked below) work much better & have dome lids.

Great Christmas gift idea!!
I think so too!
Of the 100 videos I've watched on how to make this stuff yours is so easy I kept thinking where's the catch. It's so simple but, you're the only one out of all the others that made it understandable!!! I'm a huge fan already......about to go on a marathon of your videos! I've got the popcorn poppin' and grabbing my soda. I'm about to learn something now!!!! Thank you so much for making this easy to follow and understand. Everyone else is like listening to a rocket scientist trying to tell us how to build a rocket! In French.....LOL.
lol. So glad you liked it!
Thanks a million.. Your shares and education means a lot to so many of us out there. Bless the day i came across your account here. ❤️🙏🎉🎊
Awe! You’re so sweet!!! 😘 My pleasure! I get as much out of it as you do!

I buy this stuff all the time on Etsy. I like supporting people but would be fun to make my own!
Well it’s sweet of you to support the little guys, for sure! This recipe is so very simple & quick! Plus, you get to personalize the recipe to suit your needs!
Loved this so easy thank you
Glad you liked it!!
Can't wait to try this! Is there a calculator to determine the amounts needed for different size batches for whipped soaps?
Thank you 😊 I will try it. I really love your video and your help.
😁
@Creative Bath Lab I made my whipped soap base, I put freshly ground coffee and it's really great. I love the consistency and how it left my skin. Thank you again.
Oh awesome!
Hola muchas gracias por tus totorales me encanta tu canal y cuando ya tiñes la base comprada whipping soap Blanca sin fragancia solo le agregas los aditivos y la bates ?
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your channel Dora! TY for your generosity ❤️ Are there any substitutions for the SCI? Can another surfactant be used and still get the same results? TYIA
Thanks boo! I appreciate it soo much!!! Yes, SCI can be used, but personally I used SLSa! Yes man, same results! Either 1
Thank you so much for this video, you write in the description, germall plus is a better for preservative for this project.... Can you tell me why do you think this..? 😀🌺☀
Hi! Could you please tell me how much oil/butter/essential oil can I add for the oz you used in your recipe? Thank you so much!
Just found your channel two days back and became addicted to the great stuff you make ☺️. I have a question if you don't mind, for how long should this butter last?
Thank you- that's always awesome to hear! I made this months ago & mine are still fine! I believe the shelf life is a year, but I'm guessing it'd last longer!
Nice tutorial ❤️🙏 Thank you so much. If I add oil/butter, How many Percentage % Should I add ? thanks you
Thanks hun! I don't remember, but I think for the entire recipe probably like a 2-3 tbsp.
I love this....u are a creative genius! 🥰
Awe! Love u for thinking so!!!
Thank you for being the only video I could find that made the base from scratch, I accidentally put the preservative in to soon and got clumps. I'm gonna roll with it and see what I get.
There ya go, no need to throw the batch out!
Thank you for sharing , i love your videos.
Is there a substitution for the coco betaine? Thank you
Peace & love
Thanks. I haven’t tried a different one, however, I’d think any liquid surfactant
BEST
I am a newbie to the Soaps I love your products are so pretty I want to buy the mixer with the bowl is there something I should look for when purchasing one besides making sure they come with different attachments
Thanks so much. With mixers (as with most things in life) you get what you pay for. Not saying (or recommending) to buy a 400$ mixer for one project. The cheaper ones will get the job done as well. For me personally, a big deal is if the arm lifts up. I got the most expensive kitchenaid & hated it because the arm didn't lift up. The bowl went up & down to meet the mixer/arm. Besides that, just make sure it has a paddle & a whisking attachment & you should be covered.
Hi! Do i need to use purified water or can i use regular water ? Will there be any difference?
Love this video .. thank you for sharing . Can we use a double boiler if we don’t have a microwave ?
Yes, absolutely
I'm gonna add butter to mines but I love this thank you for making this
No problem! I made this for you after all! lol after our conversation it got me thinking.. but yes, add oils & butters if you like, 4 sho! (I mention this in description).
@@CreativeBathLab how awesome 😍😍😍 you made this look so easy, can't get any easier then this, I'm just in love😍 again thank you for making this.
My pleasure girlee
Love your channel!! You really explain and demonstrate the techniques so well! Any advice if your whip doesn’t seem airy enough? Whip it cold or whip it warm?
Thanks so much sweetheart! I try! Yes, great question btw! Please refer to the description section. I also had this problem! Whip it when its fully hardened. Room temperature would be best, if it's too cold you may have some real issues!
Niceeeeeee!
Do you need a microwave? Or can you use another form of heat, like stove ( cooker)
Thanks Dora for your informative videos. I love watching them and can't wait to try this one. Can I ask how much fragrance and sugar would you have used for the whole quantity? I don't want to spoil it by adding too much or not enough. Many thanks! 🤩
YW!
How much was the sugar was added?
Thanks!
☺️
My sweet friend, thanks so much! I appreciate your support!
You are just as Beautiful as your creative gift. 😁
Awe! You’re so sweet 😊 thanks so much!
I like your Videos , very simple and easy to understand. Please can I use any betaine
Yep!
Darlin i love your videos.. are amazing!! Thanksss! 😘
A question... is that firm for long or how can i make it firm in case i want to sell it?
🤔🙂😘
Thank you! Yes, it'll remain firm & whipped up. I suggest cups with dome lids (they should be linked in description)
Where to preserve for later use? In fridge or room temperature?
I made it and kept it in the frig overnight . It’s didn’t get hard like a bar of butter it was thick but still soft . I washed myself with it and it seemed okay . Is there something I should do
Hi, thanks for the recipe, does this ship well in the summer?
I don’t know for sure but I’d say no, just bc I’ve gotten some in from other places & it’s always mushy
I really like the color combination what dyes did you use?
Pretty sure I used liquid food colorants
Can you do this without sodium cocoyl isethionate?
Fabulosa!
Can I use normal soap base?
Then whip it??
Will it be fine to use on face
Hi. Is there anyway that you can provide the formula in percentages?
Mine seems to be very drying. I used sci instead, is that why?
Thanks again for a great recipe. I’m wanting to add oils& butter mix to it. How much do you recommend? 😊
You can add as much as you want really but I don’t find any difference if you add it or don’t
You're so pretty!!! I need one of those color rings. All my products end up being green as I'm sure you saw on my Instagram lol.
Awe thanks girl!!
It’s just watercolor btw
How much quantity of oils can I add?
Yesssssss
;)
Dora do we have to go to 65F when we mix the cream soap in the water ice. It was so hard to mix with the mixer after. Took me an hour and it was still hard to mix with the mixer and the spatula. Everything else went super during the making of that cream soap. Thank you so much. xoxox
I didn’t do the soap swirled it was too hard. Can I place my bowl in warm water just to warm it up since it’s so hard. And the left over placed in the frig or just in a kitchen cabinet for future using of that cream soap. Thanks again. xoxoxox
Love your works!! 💛 Could you convert the formulation in % please? In my country we use ml instead of oz. Thank you so much
Thank you. I’ll try to just for you!
I'd love this too!!!
I'm Blown Away!!! Do you know how much premade whipped bath soap costs? Your recipe is so easy I can't believe it! PS. I've used the domed cups before as well.
I'm so glad!
How many 4oz bars does this make??
Are these ingredients all natural?
Hey can this be used as a shampoo. I’m trying to make my own version of a product called wave slime that looks similar to this.
It’s a soap so I don’t see why not!
The recipe is great I tried it! One more question,do you thing it would have the same bubbles with sci instead of slsa?
Thanks! I’ve never used SCI, but from what I understand SCI & SLSA are the same as far as bubbles go
@@CreativeBathLab I was wondering just because they have a huge difference at their price. Also I noticed that almost every mica colour that you use in your recipies is "currently unavailable'' at Amazon. Do you know where else can we find them? Your patterns are amazing
Awe! I’m sorry! Really? The only thing I saw unavailable is the eco Pearl glitter. For micas, I don’t use anything else; if I told you a different store, I’d be lying to you. So sorry this is happening! I’m definitely going to get online & see what’s going on!
Thanks for this! How much sugar do you add please?
Sorry, i never record that- I just add until it feels right
Should we store the base in fridge or at room temperature for further use??
No need!
Hi, did you add glitter? If so, where did you purchase it and is it biodegradable?
Hi there, no glitter. But, the stuff I use is always biodegradable & eco-friendly! 😊
Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong. Mine keeps coming out soft like icing
Will adding any oils for moisturization cause it to not turn out ok or to not bubble or foam?
Not at all. Matter of fact I see little to no difference at all
"You can also add oil/butter to this recipe; if using butter, melt & cool to room temperature before adding to soap!" - at what ratio? Thank you! 🙂
Hi can I use cocobetaine instead of Cocamidopropyl Betaine ?
Yep!
Hello I have a question!! I am in Europe so I have to ask. When I make the convertions should I make the liquids from oz to ml and the powders from oz to gr or everything from oz to gr??
Liquids to ml & dry to GR!
I'm eu too, but Wales. Most kitchen scales also have oz?
i diont have a fancy smancy mixture so can i use a hand held beater ?
Sure
I have one question 😅 I made this and it was awesome, but upon settling I noticed there are little white granules in the soap. I poked and prodded at them because I thought they were stearic acid but they have no texture. What do you think I did wrong?
The only thing (that I know of) that it could be is the steric acid. After microwaving, you must check that there are no granules or grit left bf moving on to next step!
Cute cat btw! 💕
@@CreativeBathLab Thanks so much for replying! I’ll try and cook it a bit longer next time and see how that goes. 😁
Love you and your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can we use slsa instead of sci??
Yes you can!
@@CreativeBathLab really thanks, i love you soooo much ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That’s what I’m here for!
Hey !!
I tried making whipped soap and it turned out well but i dropped the jar once and the soap shrinked can you please help me identify what I am doing wrong. 🥺
Thank you
Sorry to heart that. It shrunk? My only guess would be that it dried out a bit? Or maybe it deflated some kind of way.... Im not sure
Hi, do you use an immersion blender or you just use the cold bath and cool it to become a solid form?
Cold bath
@@CreativeBathLab thanks
Hi can we use Sodium Lauryl Sulfate instead of Sodium lauryl sulphoacetate
Yep!
can additional oils be added to this recipe? or will it destabilize the reciepe?
You can add more oil!
Has anyone used Sodium Coco Sulfate in this recipe?? Thanks
Could I use E-Wax instead of stearic acid?
Not sure. But replacing steric acid You’d have to experiment with measurements & basically create a new recipe.
Hello, I love your recipe, can you replace sls by slsa
Thanks! Yes you can!
Can this be used as a men’s shaving cream? Or is it too runny when wet?
You can, but this stuff is pretty thick compared to regular light-weight fluffy shaving cream
Lovely😻 have you considered using colour stabilizer please?
I’m not ashamed to say I don’t know what that is in whipped soap.. I’ve used it for candles & maybe cp soap, but I’ll have to look into that!
@@CreativeBathLab hey hun..am sorry if i was not clear 🙈 actually i was referring to vanilla colour stabilizer if ever fragrances with high vanillin content is used.
Gotcha!
Can we use sls… If so, the same quantity as sles?
Yes & yes
I tried doing this with SCI and it never thickened like yours, it was still watery. What should I do to fix this? Is it the Sci?
I’m not sure I didn’t have that issue
How to make without using a lot of chemicals?
Is it ok to use vegetable glycerin?
yep!
Hey can I aloe Vera and Vitamin C when I add the Fragrance oil
Yep
Hi! Can I replace some other stuff instead of sls and slsa? Maybe poly80
Hello there. I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. You have to have slsa (or csi/sls) in this recipe. I didn't use any poly80.
@@CreativeBathLab oh I was just asking If I can use any substitute of slsa ,sls, sci? If yes then what should I use
You got it sweetie. That’s the only 3 that I know of that you can use. You can sub 1 for the other.
Can use this for making scrub?
yep
My base become runny after adding sugar. How do I fix that?
Please someone answer me
I made the recipe I bought on easy and was not satisfied with the bubble factor. I see that you use SLSA and it appears way more bubbles. Did u just swap on for the othed
Hi there, you purchased a recipe from Etsy? Yes, I used SLSa!
What do you use for a preservative?
optiphen
Can I use a double boiler to melt it since I don't have a microwave?
Sure!
Thanks for the reply. How long does it take in the double boiler?
You are freakin awesome
I have a question is there another way to heat it up ,this is going to sound weird but I don't have a microwave
Try stove top, or oven?
👍🏾
Thanks!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi, I'm going to make this is there another option to use instead of optiphen ?
germall plus (linked)
Thank you!!
