I love my tiger wall 3, even if its just for me. I enjoy the extra space to stretch out and not worry about my gear or the rain.
Tarptent does really nice stuff. Smart designs.
Silpoly doesn't stay taut. The material will always give some and I've had to re-tighten the lines on my tents many times.
I've been told dynema is much better in that regard, but I'm not certain I'll ever pay that much for a tent... but I've been tempted by a Zpacks Hexamid Pocket Tarp as a light weight emergency shelter.
Doesn't matter what the equipment costs, the important part is to go out and have fund while using it!
Bought a used Protrail Li last year. Thought it would be phenomenal for Bikepacking as it packs down to a very compact size. Alas I've only used it for backpacking thus far and it's great. It's like tarping and several windy nights in the low 40s 🥶caused me to buy a warmer quilt
Thanks for the video. Also: I have no idea where you are from but I really like your voice and your accent.
I have the tarptent pro trail too but i just setup the tent between 2 trees and use a tarp for the top to make tent water resistant ...My tarp is the polyester version no sag much at all but its longer than the tent for extra awing . But i go car camping only ..
can you sit up in it? I've got a six moon's gatewood cape, love the tent, weathered huge storms with absolutely no leaks but headroom is not great. Packs down incredibly small. Still looking for the best ratio of benefits
It definitely could use some more guy-out points for helping with that sag! Have you tried using just a tarp before?
If you need small tent for about the same price as tarptent look into xmid the one person its seam sealed and made of polyester and small enough for bike packing weight should be about the same...It will be like dynema but way cheaper and dry quick and only 4 stakes or 6 if using doors ... I have the 2 person of this and love it is only 2.5 lbs with out trecking poles ....
The idea of paying extra to have a tent seam-sealed is ridiculous to me.
My understanding is silpoly can't be seam tapped at the factory. Sealing by hand is a labor cost. You pay for it, pretty simple really.
Practice setting up a new tent is really key. I am apartment dweller so pedaling down to a city park is a deal. Another Fly Creek veteran here. I went with Lightheart Gear Solo for my weight slashing upgrade. I think you nailed the pros and cons of the Pro Trail well. BTW, Tarptent has been the boss of minimalist design and production.
@@paulvanreesch2493 The factory can make a whole tent but can't seam-seal it? C'mon now... Why would a manufacturer sell a tent not fully capable of handing the elements? I'd bet almost everyone who buys this tent pays the extra money for seam sealing. Should just be a standard feature, but they make more money selling it as an option.
@@falcoperegrinus82smaller companies often do not seem seal their silnylon or silpoly tents. It does take extra time and extra labor... Usually it is performed by employees before shipping the tent out, it is not usually done at "the factory" It's cheaper for the customer to do it, so most often the company offers it as an extra charge.
I have the MoTrail (2 person version) and the Protrail Li. The silnylon def sags and requires tensioning again after it sits for a bit. My DCF Protrail does not sag at all. If you have the silnylon version, def use the front and rear guy lines to keep the peak taught.
I am 6'2" and love the amount of space inside while laying down. I can sit up at the entrance but not much further back.
Other tents I would consider in this range: Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo (I had this one, gave it to my friend when I upgraded to the Protrail LI), Durston X Mid 1p, mountain Laurel Designs Solomid or the Cricket tarp.
