    Why sample loading is slow on Circuits: All the Circuits mount to computers as MIDI devices. Samples are sent and received using the MIDI Sample Dump Standard (SDS), which hasn't changed since its introduction in 1986. SDS is basically a huge amount of 8-bit SysEx data. It's just always going to be slow to send high quality 16/24/32-bit audio data as 8-bit data. Novation and others do this because it's easier to develop drivers for multiple platforms, including the Components web interface, if the instrument is communicating through MIDI since they have MIDI expertise. Novation could potentially develop a different hardware-computer interface that speeds up data transfer, but they won't without pressure from customers, because what they have now works. Changing to a different data standard, would take some time and effort to implement (and the current hardware may not even support it). I think (but I am not certain) that MIDI 2.0 may support higher bit rate for SysEx. Our best hope may be that future firmware updates support this way of speeding up sample dumps.

Each on there own are awesome so you can get one and have fun until you have the money to buy another one of them. But with all 3 you have just about everything you cpuld ever want or need to make any kind of music you want! Oh and they are all fairly budget yet super high quality!

    Some numbers for a little perspective:
    At 80 BPM, four bars is 12 seconds long. That means that a 220 second limitation will still give you 18 samples of four bars, with 4 seconds left for one shots. If each four bar sample is sliced to be used for an eight (or sixteen, or whatever) bar section, you have room for a verse, bridge, and chorus for a total of six songs. Of course, at faster tempos, you can squeeze in even more.
    In other words, this thing can hold an entire EP worth of samples. If you're smart about how you prepare and organize your samples, you might even be able to get a proper full length album!

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper Před 3 lety

      Same... more or less. I got a Digitakt to use as a drum machine and master sequencer, but it turns out it has a ton of shortcomings as a sequencer, and I don't really need most of its extra sampling features, and I can't get samples off it since it requires a proprietary app. So a Circuit Rhythm might actually be better for my purposes. Or, of course, a MPC would be good too.

    • @GearGuy
      @GearGuy Před 3 lety +1

      @@ToyKeeper Take a look at the Akai Force for sequencing, it is freaking insane.
      BTW, If you do decide to do some researching the Akai Force, just make sure to look at info/reviews that are referring to the firmware 3.0.6, since that version has some really amazing features added like full arranger mode, Ableton integration, multi-midi USB, and an additional Drum plugin built-in (which gives it four (quite-massive-sounding) plugins right out of the box) plus a ton of other new features…. It’s not compact or portable, but it has an incredible amount of features and connectivity (as well as a 7-inch touchscreen, 64 RGB pads, 8 rotaries, each with dedicated displays, etc)… Great thing about the force is a lot of people are still unaware of the new firmware so it is selling at a great price in the used market… Of course, It might or might not fit your needs, but in either case it is a perfect time to look at one just in case it is the former.

    • @ToyKeeper
      @ToyKeeper Před 3 lety

      @@GearGuy The Akai Force has been at the top of my list for a while now, because it's the closest one can get to Ableton without a computer. Initially I didn't like it due to its limitations, but then they added the arranger mode and it seems like it's waaaay more powerful now.

    I feel that if you want to do boombap or other similar styles like Lofi, the richness of the stereo image is naturally present because the sample chops are already in stereo. With this sampler you will have to find a turnaround. Would be really nice that in a future firmware update they let you sample right and left channels to two different tracks and somehow chop the the exact same way so you can sacrifice a track for stereo. If that is implemented I would be buying it right now.

I feel that because in Live I can do ANYTHING, I have a million ways to do the same thing, and sometimes I feel it can affect flow and creativity. I'm feeling this one could work as a nice sketch pad and later throw the tracks into your daw so yo can work properly on it.

      on tracks you should be able to record onto the midi tracks from your freak and play back those notes to the freak. Midi In and Out must be connected between the two devices. And make sure RX/TX is set correctly on the Tracks. And that both devices use same midi channel. See manual for how to set this on Tracks and Freak respectively

    I would need to have say:

    - 4 sample pads that do the same
    - 4 bass
    - 4 sound effects
    My plan is to take my beats from ableton and be able to tap them out live.

    The Circuit Rythm seems closer to the Elektron Model Sample than the Digitakt. Both are in the entry level market, have similar limitations/specs, and are roughly the same size.
    Digitakt is much more advanced and covers a lot more ground especially with the new update. It’s hard to compare the 2. Another comparison might be and sp-404? Idk 🤷

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 3 lety +3

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 3 lety +1

      Honestly, to me I feel a much stronger similarity of how I’d use the Rhythm to the Digitakt. They are all similar kinds of grooveboxes. If you dont need to sample anything then Model: Samples is a good option. But as soon as you want Sampling its either Digitakt or Rhythm. Perhaps a Roland SP compares well too? I just havnt tried one so I can’t say.
      Compared to the Model: Samples I feel that the Rhythm is just way more useable. I’d rate Samples pretty low on a ”sample based groovebox” list tbh.

      Hey Bojan, you can easily treat it like a live looper with a little thought and preparation. E.g. you can place a step into the sequencer using an empty sample slot. Set the sequencer running, then record your Minilogue XD into the blank sample slot used by that track's sequencer. Once that sequencer repeats the loop is created. You can do this on all 8 tracks too so you could easily loop 8 passes on 8 separate tracks. Just been having fun live looping my Summit this way.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 3 lety +1

      You need components, but you will learn where things are in your packs. Especially if you load stuff in a logical way: first two rows kick drums, then snares and so on. So the lack of a screen isnt a major problem in this particular case

    • @philippeedwards5813
      @philippeedwards5813 Před 3 lety
