TRAIL RUNNING BASICS | TIPS and TRICKS to become a better trail runner

  • Have you ever wondered about this relatively new sport that is everywhere? Trail running has become super popular and every major brand is coming out with equipment, shoes or other gear for your trail run. But what is TRAIL RUNNING? HOW do you trail run? What to consider before and while trail running?
    In this video I hike and run up a local mountain in Salzburg, Austria and give you tips and tricks for your first or next trail run.
    Let me know in the comments if I should take part in the Trailrunning Festival in Salzburg or try to run a new Half-Marathon PB! I would love to know what you guys are thinking!

    Great tips! Running in nature is THE BEST.
    This time last year I was logging 8-15 mile runs, but I let my habits go and now I'm building back up from 1-2 miles! Heh.

      Same, I have the annoying habit of taking the winters off, and having to rebuild every spring. I'm trying to break that cycle, to see how far I can progress. Best wishes!

    Thanks for the tips. I have the same kind of shoes and vest as you 👍🏻 Training for my first ultra in May. I did hill repeats yesterday. They are a killer! 😄🏃‍♂️

    Great video! Just found your channel. I've always loved trails, but officially gave up roads in 2020 when I trained for my first ultra. I'd rather hit my treadmill than the roads now. Looking forward to more videos!

    Good stuff! Thanks for sharing your tips. Started trailrunning on my recent vacation in Réunion. And the country is perfect for it! Sadly I live in a flat country (NL), wish to move somewhere where I can make this a weekly routine :)

    I actually run 1 mile up the mountains , and I do 2 raps so that's probably 2miles .

    Cool video, Chris!
    What shoes would you recommend for these kind of runs? I have the adidas ultraboost. Regular running shoes too risky? Or do you recommend trail running shoes?

      Thanks for commenting. Definitely recommend trail running shoes for the mountain. Their outer soles have the grip you need when it gets slippery. I have used regular running shoes on light trails though.

      Gaisberg, Salzburg. There a a lot of trails there. You can also take a bus to the top.

    How to survive long steep descend?

      I’m trying to figure that out as well. Practicing quick downhills and focusing on technique helps a lot. ( careful on the downhills, you can get injured quickly )
      Strengthening your quads in the gym is also good.

      2-3 months of the year I go to the gym to train legs. Usually before I do an ultra marathon.

    As a therian who can’t do quads cause of over flexible shoulders and weak wrists trail running makes me feel free
