I agree, some trees do better with more organics mixed in. Always experimenting, and it does help with water retention. I have several lilac starts, since I have bushes that sucker in my yard. Fun plant to play with, and fast growing. Yours is very nice!

Nice. And I'm jealous. Lilac is my favorite (and as you know mine died). I had decided to just stick to my Salix twins but I really want to go get another lilac. PS: i forgot about my donation to the Arbor Day Foundation, and a couple of days ago I got a bag of trees! At lease there's one willow in there. haha. Let me know if you need any more!!

What’s up Mike, enjoyed your video. I too use a type of organic soil, I use miracle gro cactus and potting soil. I have 4 types of hinoki cypress, a number of deciduous trees including Japanese maple, beach, and olive, I also have 4 types of juniper including procumbens, and shimpaku. I find that the extra water retention helps a lot during my hot summers, so far I haven’t had any root rot problems. Like you said a lot of variables are involved

Glad to hear I'm not the only one! Some people look at me like I'm a heretic when I say that lol.

Hello from Lakeland Florida! I am writing this comment in the middle of the video. But to suggest to plant the first two cuttings and they might grow. I don't throw away anything and my cuttings success is above 75 percent.

iPhone 6B here. If yours are starts then I would probably wait until maybe early May or so. But that's just me. Starts are a little bit more fragile than older plants.
