- Today, I bring y'all Paul's first solo song he recorded after a year he retired from performing and being a member of The Temptations.
In mid 1971, Paul was advised by the doctor to retire because they found a spot in his liver, plus his health was declining due to his Sickle Cell diease. Paul took the advice and retired from performing and being a Temptation to get better. Next year, Paul's health improved and he wanted to make a comeback as a solo artist. His childhood friend, Eddie Kendricks had written a song for a group that recorded it earlier on and, then wanted Paul to sing it and the song was titled as "Feel Like Givin' Up." It became his first recording since he was in the group for their "Sky's The Limit" album the previous year. Paul gave it his all on this song. You could feel the emotion, pain, hurt, and soaring in his voice with passion and soul. Unfortunately, Motown shelved it until years after his death on the Temptations solo years album that featured David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Dennis Edwards, and Paul Williams himself.
I strongly believe this would've easily put Paul on the map and back out there. Paul would've had a wonderful solo career if he wasn't taking away from us so soon. We love and miss you, Paul. As always, Temptations Forever ❤️.
Paul was just as good of a singer as David Ruffin and that's a fact
I think he was smoother as a singer.
Yes but they were all good singers in their own way Eddie David Paul Melvin Otis they all brought something different to the group their is no need to tear down another temptation to prove that your favorite was the best singer. A lot of you do that a lot just enjoy the music.
Paul’s passion kicked it up a notch… and he moved the best. :)
They were both passionate and extraordinary singers. They had their unique way of singing. Love both of them!
R.I.P. Daddy -N- Law🙏🏾
Paul was without a doubt one of the best singers. Sickle cell is a very tough disease and painful for those who suffer from it.
You can feel his voice, we will always remember you Paul. RIP.
He was literally crying out in this song and nobody noticed😩... Rest in peace
This song is talking about leaving a woman
Yes but he is still hurting and crying inside and in real life paul was really going through things as well and that's probably another reason he made this song.
After years of listening to the temps, I realized nobody could follow Paul after his departure. You really hear some great singers in the temps. I believe this is what made Paul so special. Nobody in the temps could follow his distinctive voice.
Richard Street did a good job, However, he was no Paul Williams
I can’t tell y’all how many times I play this song he is my favorite temptation RIP Paul
He definitely was the most versatile Paul could do everything
He definitely was the most versatile Paul could do everything
Thanks to CZcams, and especially the comments section, I have learned that Paul was much-appreciated by the fans, if not the general public.
By far, my favorite Temptation.
They seriously need to re-release this song. I cant find it anywhere, ive searched for years!
Un leased
MAN! HE COULD SING!
Rest in peace ❤️ that voice, the pain and passion behind it😔 whew
From what I can gather from the various books I've read about the Temptations, Paul's life was really complicated. It seems he was looking for something that stardom couldn't give him. That stood out to me because I thought, wow, being in such an amazing group, with fans all over the world- and yet there was a void that it seems he just couldn't fill. He went into business, opening a boutique with, I think it was his girlfriend but that didn't work out. He had issues at home. The whole thing with Paul just being lost has haunted me ever since I read about his troubles. Nobody back then knew much about or would talk about depression, but I wonder if he did have an issue with it. And if he was still dealing with all of these demons, not to mention his problems with alchohol, I wonder if the solo career would have helped him- would he have been able to put his life on track. So sad.
It wasn't his girlfriend, it was Florence Ballard's cousin named Winnie Brown but the rest is very well said
Paul definitely suffered from depression. Like you said it just wasn't talked about back then
@@temptin_temptations OK , thanks for correcting that point. The memory was fuzzy on that. I really love what all you do on your channel. I wish we had CZcams when I was a kid discovering Motown.
@@brandonayong5823 And it's just such a shame. I'll say this: I appreciate that now, younger generations are so much more open and a million times less judgemental about things that it used to be. If these attitudes had existed back then it may have helped Paul to have had a happier life.
He suffered from sickle cell and he wanted more leads on songs.
Paul, Master Baritone, the GOAT! ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
I have got record's but not like this song amazing version is why i listen to it all the time
One of my favorite temps. I love Paul so much and I feel like we can appreciate this song more because of Paul’s life. I feel like anyone that know Paul and his voice, is a better person for knowing or hearing him. Love you so much Paul and I hope to meet you in Heaven one day.
My Favorite Temp Mr Paul Williams Sr!!!!
While I love this song, it is not one I can listen to often given how things turned out for him. 😩 #RIP
Breaks my heart.
He was killed I believe.
@@hopetrnr0 Paul is the one I think committed suicide
@@virtualwhispers some people think he was killed, i think so too. but only god knows.
Killer song
If only I could turn back time! You are so missed by so many Paul! Oustanding performance. Love this song so much!!

I also listen to. I who have nothing. (Otis Williams)
Thanks for sharing, Larry!
Love this song
Love this song too it’s beautiful and awesome 😎
Rip beautiful man.
He's in good voice, and I like this track very much. I wish Motown had given it a chance.
I'm sorry but I feel the same way about it.
Picture this the 3 main temptations , Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin all passed away. Had they gotten together and made it. What would have happened to the temptations.
Plus add Dennis Edward as well.
They would have been unstoppable. There deaths were unquestionable.
7-15-23 Berry Gordy the ultimate disrespect to the talented Pau Williams Sr to not release this song. WHY WHY WHY UNFAIR. BUT GOD WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY BERRY
I think they didn't release it because of the way Paul died
@@virtualwhispersSome say because Paul was left handed and the shot was to the right temple that there’s no way he ended his life.
@@brilliantdiva5068 That's something we'll never know
@@virtualwhispers Says Wjo? Speak for yourself😡
@@brilliantdiva5068 oh go somewhere you little pissant... Your comment is totally uncalled for.
Always going to be a problem getting ahead of Ruffin and Kendricks. These were serious, seriously talented vocalists
He was handsome
Was this on the motown label?
Yessir but it wasn't released until years later
❤
This man story wasn't told correctly and it breaks my heart. I don't believe he killed himself.
I feel like the police used this as an excuse not to look into his death it’s red flags all in his case the gun went off twice on the left side of his head and and he was right handed
Yes, very true
