  • Are you an overpacker who would love to be able to ditch the checked luggage and be able to travel the world in just a carry on? Don't worry, you are not a lone and just a few years ago I was in your shoes. In fact I remember the exact moment when I decided I needed to learn how to pack more efficiently. Over the years, I have mastered the art of packing a carry on. My latest prideful packing moment was when I was able to pack for 3 weeks in Peru where I had to pack for all four seasons and many different climates and activities. So let me tell you, it is possible!
I am about to embark on a 2 week European travel adventure and thought I would share with you how I have mastered packing in a carry on and how you can too. So the real question is, Are you willing to take the challenge and ditch the checked luggage? Who is packing a carry on for their next adventure? đŸ™‹đŸ»â€â™€ïž

Hmmm...you are going to Hungary yeah? I love Europe, we are currently planning our 4th Europe trip which will be for 3 months, traveling mostly via trains with a couple of short flights as well. Capsule wardrobe is the only way to go with carry-on only. We usually travel in spring or fall, and I usually pack 3 or 4 very thin linen scarves which really help to extend the wardrobe a lot and add splashes of colour! They can also keep your bare neck covered or use as a head cover when needed. I also pack a set of then thermal underwear, perfect for layer or even sleeping in. One tip is to switch out as many liquids as you can for solids, like shampoo bar, conditioner bar, solid deodorant, solid lotion bar, toothpaste tabs, you can even get perfume in a solid if you look hard enough. The less liquid you have the easier time you will have at airport security. Another tip would be to check the website of the airline you are using to see what their restrictions are for carry-on bags; many have weight restrictions as well as size. For me instead of conditioner and body lotion I buy coconut oil in a 100ml/3.4oz tube and it doesn't count as a liquid because coconut oil is a solid when at room temp. And it's great for skin and air and smells sooo good!! For footwear I take one pair of black Blundstone boots, super comfortable, stylish and you can even wear them with a casual dress or skirt. I don't take anything else for my feet, and don't need to. And I make sure my new pair of well broken in so I have no blisters or sore feet at all. If you do feel a blister coming on I recommend mole skin, I'm in Canada so not sure if you have it in the USA or maybe it has a different name. Basically it is sheets of sticky bandage without the cotton pad in the middle so it sticks well to the area needed, you just cut it to size. You can even layer it on itself to get a thicker padding. Another tip is to use your deodorant on the bottom of your feet, it helps keep the dry and stops them from slipping around and rub.

After watching numerous videos of this type, I've finally found yours and no need to look further. Exactly the type of capsule wardrobe I was looking for. I'm not going until next February, but after 2 other trips to Europe in winter and packing way to much I've decided on a back pack. Going to Paris, then Florence and Rome and have heard horror stories of dragging wheeled luggage over cobblestone and I just to be free of all that. I might have to get some compression bags, but I'm determined. I went to Greece last February just in time, before all the lockdowns. Can't wait to travel again.

Thank you for your video, I really liked your capsule wardrobe! I have some tips, too. I wear nude, toeless compression socks (and pack a black pair) on travel and sightseeing days. I use a TSA-approved bag that holds much more than a quart-sized ziplock bag as I have to pack my daily wear contacts that take up a lot of room. I also wear minimal jewelry and put it on after going thru TSA Precheck. I Keep my iPad mini, TSA bag and phone in the same outside pocket of my personal item (which is a convertible backpack with a detachable adjustable crossbody strap by LUG) in case I’m at an airport that doesn’t use Precheck (makes it quick with everything in one pocket). I pack socks to lounge in the plane/hotel and flip-flops for the plane bathroom and walking around hotel, pool or beach. I’m obsessed with the LUG travel and organization brand and the hardest part isn’t packing, it’s deciding what bag-accessories to use! I use my LUG travel pillow (curls up tiny) and pack a tan or black belt bag (strap is removable so can be used during the day as a beltbag or crossbody, then remove strap and use as a clutch for evenings. I take toothpaste tablets in a pill case (found on Amazon) and pack hand, laundry, shampoo and conditioner “leaves” or Lush hard soap and cut enough for the days I’ll need. I take a 10’-12’ iPhone cords since most outlets aren’t close enough to the bed. I buy cords, adapters & converters in bright colors so I won’t forget and can easily spot when packing. I take a small nightlight with 2 USB ports and use the devices and walk to the bathroom without waking my husband up. Sorry this is so long, but I hope some my tips will help you, too. Enjoy safe travels everyone! đŸ€—âœˆïž

what about night time outings? I pack very light but when go to Europe, we treat ourselves to high end restaurants. No way am I going to wear black jeans to dinner. I will say that it also depends on age, we’re retired and in our 50’s and 60’s.
