  • I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a week as an intern on Capitol Hill and I documented the experience. Special thanks to Senator Todd Young, Mrs. Eastman, and everyone else who made this happen for me.
    Shoulda nested the clip...

    I would love to do this. I don’t care if I don’t get paid. I would just drop to the ground if I ever saw the capitol.

    Nothing beats a Capitol tour with rock music in the background. Kudos on the senate experience. Your charisma is definitely senator material

      Haha, thanks so much! I've become a little lazy but dressing well is a lost art that I need to rediscover. (Originally I just wanted this channel to be about suits and ties and watches but that never happened. Maybe someday.)

    Awesome video! Did you do this through an organized internship program, or did you just reach out to his staff?

    • @ThePhilShow
      @ThePhilShow  Před 3 lety +5

      Thanks Tom! I reached out to his staff through a teacher at my school who knew someone on his staff. I know most senators (including the one I interned for) do run an organized term-long internship program and I worked with some people who were staying for the whole term.

    Hi thanks for making this vlog. My question is, do you make friends with other interns? Like do you have open time to hang out with possible new friends for a dinner or so? Is it expensive to go out and into intern? Like travelling expenses etc?

    • @ThePhilShow
      @ThePhilShow  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey again! Just now looking back through comments again. I wasn't there for super long but I met some cool people. You definitely have the time and space to make new friends and that's one of the most valuable parts of an experience like this. Hope your internship is going well and that you are able to connect with some awesome people.

    Can you tell me what do you guys actually do by interning with a senator?

    • @ThePhilShow
      @ThePhilShow  Před 3 lety +7

      Definitely! It depends on how the senator has his or her office set up, and which team you are interning with. I only was an intern for a short time but I got a taste of many different areas. The majority of my time was answering phone calls from constituents (sometimes happy, usually angry) and listening to what they had to say and passing their messages on to the Senator. All interns also get trained to give tours of the US Capitol Building and give tours from time to time for constituents who stop by the office. I also spent a day with the Senator going to his various meetings, hearings, and media appearances to help shoot some behind the scenes video for the press team. It changes a lot from day to day and it is a very exciting role where you learn a lot very quickly.

    • @injiyoo7962
      @injiyoo7962 Před 3 lety +3

      Sorry to hear it, I bet that’s pretty disappointing. I applied to American Airlines and was rejected a few times before I eventually got my internship there. Keep learning and working hard and I’m sure doors will open up for you that are even more exciting that that.

    • @ThePhilShow
      @ThePhilShow  Před 2 lety +2

      It's all about who you know-and I was very lucky that a teacher at my school had a connection to someone who worked in this office to get me an interview. I'd recommend working LinkedIn and asking around people you know to meet and learn from people who have gone on to do jobs you might want to end up in.
