Oggy, Oggy, Oggy, Oi, Oi, Oi was an exchange between 2 groups (either at a sporting occasion or just for camaraderie). It's origins are Cornish, whence Cornish pasty sellers (or tin miner's wives) would shout Oggy, Oggy, Oggy to miners or potential customers and the reply would be Oi, Oi, Oi. Often heard at rugby matches
Possibly worth adding that the Cornish pasty is a classic, D-shaped savoury filled with beef and vegetables, traditionally eaten by tin miners from that part of Britain since times past, and that "oggy" is the Cornish language word for it?
and that is why they sent criminals to Australia because they stole it. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi. I mean that sounds like a copyright lawsuit right there lol
I saw this upload and thought, " Is this play on words going to work with Americans"?
You'll also hear it in South Wales, the Valleys particularly. I live a hot Oggy.
@leohickey4953
In Wales they still call Cornish pasties Oggys. The old call them Tiddy Oggys
The lady sat next to David (Carol), used to be the "letters & numbers" lady on Countdown before Rachel Riley.
Wikipedia has a page on “Oggy Oggy Oggy” if you are baffled.
And this was confirmed by none other than Max Boyce himself.
The troubadour of Welsh rugby, who popularised the chant during the golden years of Welsh rugby in the 1970s, explained, "It almost certainly came from Cornwall, hence the Cornish name 'oggy' for a Cornish pasty.
An Oggie is a name for Cornish pasties and is a a familiar rallying cry at sports matches . With David's level of sporting interest comes the humour in this story .
Welsh comedian Max Boyce (1970s) used to shout oggie oggie oggie and the audience would respond with oi oi oi.
This may well be the cultural reference for this piece.
Yep he started it, I was at a Welsh match were he warmed up the fans,,,them were the days... Sigh
Yes, that's where I became aware of it, from his various BBC shows. To emphasise how popular he was, his LP "We All Had Doctors' Papers" is apparently the only comedy album to top the charts in the UK. They also used it in an episode of The Office iirc. Interesting to hear about the Cornish origins.
When I was at university in Aberystwyth, back in 1973 - 76, Max Boyce came to do a gig on campus and started off with this chant (which we all knew, obviously.) I later bought his LP "Live At Treorchy" which covered all the songs he performed. Great memories!
Yes, Carol Vorderman, in the blue, was the original numbers genius on Countdown before Rachel Riley
it's one of these Mitchell and Mack stories, nobody even tries to judge, it's all about how funny it gets.
Im new to this channel and im on a binge watch.. love it 👍
Congrats on 100K 🎉
Jodie Jodie Jodie..... Nick Nick Nick!
The lady on David's team is a mathematician who was on Countdown before Rachael Riley, Carol Vorderman..
Before she went nuts.
@@michaelglass1911 can't argue with that pal.
The chant was popularised by Max Boyce, Welsh comedian/folk singer, in the 1970s/80s. He based his act around being Welsh and a rugby fan; he also carried a giant leek.
It goes back to the 1800's or even earlier. Used in the Cornish mines to let them know their dinner, a pasties was ready. A titley oggie being another name for a pastie.
Usually if David or Lee look at their card that obviously, it’s not to make you think it’s a truth/lie, it’s just for comic effect.
Most people in the UK and on the show don’t really care about winning the game, it’s more about having a laugh, and that’s true to most UK shows
Oggie oggie oggie oi oi oi is a rugby chant in Wales
The woman sitting next to David Mitchell is carol vordaman. The original mathematician of countdown. Congrats on 100 sorry I haven't watched many lately back and forth hospital ❤
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!!
Oi Oi Oi.
C’mon Aussie c’mon!!!
She isn't trying to destroy you, she merely knows you will get it wrong
He got you with the double bluff.
For oggi,I oggi oggi insight watch a Max Boyce concert/show ,it's a call and response bit between him and the audiences ❤❤ ❤❤
This was so lost on you❤️❤️😂😂😂
Yep, it was a very common phrase in the U.K. certainly when I was growing up in the ‘70’s. Someone would shout Oggy,
Oggy, Oggy and the reply was Oi,
Oi, Oi.
Oggie, Oggie, Oggie ....... was originally started by a Welsh comedian Max Boyce in the 70s/80s
So much older than that.

@@garyashton6308 oops sorry lol Good Idea.
As teachers you probably have read or seen films of Shakespeare . This is a spoof comedy starring David Mitchell as the bard. The writing occasionally is brilliant. You will need to concentrate of the words or you will miss something.

Oggie , oggie ,oggie is a common chat in the Britain , just when people are excited .. By the way Oggie is the welsh word for pasty .And the rely to the O,i oi, oi, meaning yes yes yes.
No, it's Cornish.
@@rikmoran3963 My apologies lets agree Its a Celtic Word since the "Cornish language " derives From the Celtic. .Cornish is a Southwestern Brittonic language,[28] a branch of the Insular Celtic section of the Celtic language family, which is a sub-family of the Indo-European language family.[29] Brittonic also includes Welsh, Breton, Cumbric and possibly Pictish, the last two of which are extinct. Scottish Gaelic, Irish and Manx are part of the separate Goidelic branch of Insular Celtic.PS my mum was from Devon .
its a boy scout thing...and its ugy ugy ugy....oi oi oi
coke studio 15 aayi aayi plzzzzzz reaction
This UK saying hasn't travelled , wonder what the USA equivalent is & in other countries ???
To understand the oggi, op ggie
If it was spelled aggie it would be like maggie, it is spelled oggie so is pronounced oggie.
Why would someone with a pathological repetition pet peeve, say "over and over and over"? Questions for the ages
To get aninsu
Did you know that America copied WILTY last year, it was a big time flop and only lasted a couple of months. I watched a few clips and it was really bad.
i think you are telling the truth
.....
But it's >OAu
nick i should go with jody whatever you think cos otherwise you will be wrong yet again
It's an old Football chant from the fans, especially,in the 1960's/1970's. As below:
Oggie ! Oggie ! Oggie ! Oi ! Oi ! Oi ! Oggie ! Oggie ! Oggie ! Oi ! Oi ! Oi !
Oggieeeeeeeeeeeeee Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Oggieeeeeeeeeeeeee Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Oggie ! Oggie ! Oggie ! Oi ! Oi ! Oi !
I got it right🎉. What’s that itchy tongue neck that’s a sign that it’s coming out to exercise, which means nagging
It’s a sign of telling too many lies
1:03 He opens with the same moronic line in every show "all right welcome back to boring reviews". With that said I do enjoy the reactions just not a fan of the silly intro... all the best.
