Sheng Yilun did such a wonderful job with the scene. He expressed a full range of emotions. He walked up the stairs with a mixture of hesitation and determination, then changed to sheer determination when he walked into court to face the ministers and the emperor. When he was descending the stairs, his expression was that of worry, hoping that he did the right thing to send his wife to war, self deprecation of his weak body, and wistfulness that he might fight alongside his wife. It is no wonder why Sheng Yilun got all his roles without screen tests.
Yujin faced those useless and evil ministers with great come back and retort, without showing any weakness, either in bearing or argument. After what Yujin did here, I wonder how his uncle could still treat him like a child. That emperor was sure dense. Good thing after the war was won, he did recognize Yujin's talent.
I love this scene so much that I kept rewatching it. Sheng Yilun was so good with the speech and played the part so well, not only with his facial expression, but with his voice, his eyes and his entire body language, like what he did with the modern dance. The image he presented of Yujin here reminded me of what the fashion writer wrote of Sheng Yilun when he won a fashion award; he was like a flame under an iceberg, full of power but invisible from the surface. What a man! As much as I did not like that Ye Zhao had to retire after the war, I also think the 3 three men who were promoted after the war deserved the credit they received. Besides, except for giving Fox her position, I do not believe that she was qualified for the positions Minister Fan and Yujin were to occupy. I do wish her sister-in-law was promoted. If only the empress dowager was still alive more women might have advanced.

I still wondered how Sheng Yilun was able to make that speech, looking straight and un- wavering at those ministers, and spoke all those words without blinking. That was so hard to do and he did it. I loved how Yujin played Prince Qi. First, he took down his gambling house, then he redeemed Qi’s debt voucher for buying a girl from the brothel, followed by pretending that he could not keep awake at their meeting about Xia’s visits, and finally appeared in court to have his wife’s position reinstated and argued so effectively that Qi did not know how to respond. Talk about a smart man!!!

This show is titled Oh my General but actually shows off her husband Zhao Yujin while Ye Zhao submits to underappreciation and society's standard of women giving up their careers to submit to their husbands. To an extent, you are correct. The emperor that started the song dynasty wanted to prevent court officials from being able to gossip and talk between themselves to scheme during hearings with the emperor. So the long thingies on their caps are legit exactly for that. To prevent them from standing close enough to socialize.

@@monishamohan6044 yup! The previous dynasty fell cuz of corruption issues within the court officials I believe. The emperor in the new dynasty thought that having that distance between each person would prevent them from discussing and scheming stuff while actively holding meetings with him. He wasn't down for side gossip and chatter. That's why their hats are like that. It's the biggest indicator of the Song dynasty time period.
