#albumreaction #badmotorfinger #soundgarden - Hudba
This album changed my musical taste forever. It was a game changer for millions.
It's amazing how confident they came out on this LP. Like from the siren call of Rusty Cage, they came out and planted their flag among the greats!
Yeah Rusty Cage is quite the kickoff to this album, isn't it? Starts things off with so much energy.
Yeah, they kicked the s out of this album!!!
Soundgarden is undoubtedly the best band of the Grunge Generation!!! Badmotorfinger is a masterpiece!!! Chris Cornell is one of the best vocalists in the history of Rock/Heavy Metal and Music in general!!! And there is a crucial question regarding why Soundgarden is an unforgettable, wonderful, exceptional band: there is a lot of influence in Soundgarden's sound from the best and biggest band in the history of Heavy Metal: the sacred, immortal, unforgettable, timeless, masterful BLACK SABBATH...
Matt Cameron.
Most underrated drummer ever.
underrated by whom?
@@alltheserobotsshallfall people who are not in the know.
When Soundgarden are mentioned it's mostly Chris Cornell and sometimes guitarist Kim Thayil. But bass player Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron was such a big part of their music and sound. Ben Shepherd had just joined for Badmotorfinger.
Matt Cameron made me rethink drumming patterns. He never does what's expected.
One of the best rhythm sections in the history of rock music.
Absolutely, they all help make Soundgarden into the amazing band that they are. Just an incredibly talented group of musicians.
The band have said that Ben Shepard made a huge impact when he joined and it's really clear.
I think the live video from Pinkpop in 91 or 92, Shepard is wearing his bass incredibly lower than any punk bassist I've ever seen, and then he is bending over playing Rusty Cage, especially during the breakdown, it is essentially on the ground. As a bassist, I effing loved that.
Holy Water might be my favorite from Soundgarden. They are definitely my personal favorite from the Seattle scene. Thanks for the dedication to making these vids Molly!
Yes, such a great song. It's hard to pick a favorite off of this album, every track absolutely delivers. And thanks for the support, I love making these videos and discovering new music and it's so awesome that people are enjoying them :)
The chorus in holy water gives me chills every single time
And temple of the dogs when????
This is Soundgarden's opus. I like Superunknown but it doesn't quite have the grit, gnarliness and consistency of BMF. The four best tracks are Slaves & Bulldozers, Outshined, Holy Water and Mind Riot.
I might have to agree, both are amazing records but Badmotorfinger has a bit more of a punch to it, if that makes sense. Superunknown kind of sinks further down into that murky grunge quality, a bit slower too. I guess my favorite would depend on the mood I'm in at the time.
Agreed. Except Jesus Christ Pose deserves top 3
Rusty Cage is tops, especially with Cash's version of it too.
I should add that Down on the Upside is a definite must listen. Again some really interesting sounding song and again a great album. I say only a touch behind Superunknown and Badmotorfinger.
First Audioslave album and Temple of Dog should be on your hit list too.
And Seasons, solo track by Chris C is awesome. I say the greatest song that most people have never heard 😊
Down on the upside is a great soundgarden album, worth a listen
I'm excited to hear it! :)
Jesus Christ Pose has provided me with more adrenaline than almost any other song ever made. ❤️
If anyone wants to go on a 90's movie kick, JC Pose was the opening song for a movie called "SFW," which is probably the most 90's movie there ever was. SFW does *not* stand for safe for work.
Yep, I absolutely agree with you! The energy they inject into that track is outstanding, so much speediness to it. I'll have to give SFW a watch at some point too, I've never heard of that film before.
I love SFW. Not that many people know about it.
One of the greatest albums of any genre! BTW, the horn you hear on “room 1000 years wide” is a saxophone.
Ahh, thank you for clarifying that. I love the jazz elements they infuse on this album, so unexpected!
Fun fact, it was slaves and bulldozers that Rick Rubin played for Tom Morello to convince him to consider Chris Cornell as the singer of audio slave.
Such a fantastic track, and one that really shows off the amazing versatility of Chris Cornell's voice.
@@mollyesanborn I can tell he listened to a lot of led Zeppelin growing up. And then some.
He needed to be convinced?! Crazy.
@@lukepurser3432 That was the first thing I thought of when I heard them back in the day, before Nirvana hit, on 120 minutes.
This was the first CD I ever bought as a teenager back in the early 90s. As you can probably tell, I’ve been obsessed with it (and Soundgarden generally) ever since. Thanks for your reaction. Superunknown is a must next listen!
I can see why you became obsessed with this record after hearing it, it's such an amazing album! Soundgarden really did a fantastic job blending so many elements on this thing, it really surpasses being a single genre. I've actually done a reaction already to Superunknown as well if you're interested in giving it a watch :)

@@mollyesanborn thanks Molly, I look forward to seeing your reaction to this other epic album. Subscribed!
@@badmotorbreath5206 thanks! I appreciate you and I hope you enjoy the Superunknown reaction.
I was 12 when Badmotorfinger came out. It wasn’t until the Outshined single came out around Christmas that I needed the album. What a song. I didn’t get the CD for Christmas but I got it for my 13th birthday Jan 5. It immediately replaced a Nevermind CD I had overplayed on my Walkman.
It's nice to see someone who really hears this album. To me this is their finest.
Scott Granlund - saxophone on "Room a Thousand Years Wide" and "Drawing Flies"
Ernst Long - trumpet on "Face Pollution", "Room a Thousand Years Wide", and "Drawing Flies"
Thank you for naming them! I love that they incorporated the additional instrumentation on this record. Really adds an extra layer to the sound.
My first experience with "Searching with My Good Eye Closed" was one of them 3-D laser shows in a planetarium. In lends itself particularly well to the format. There was a devil face that came out and looked like it was about to eat you as Cornell's vocal started
Ooh that sounds really cool, it is such a unique song. Seems very well suited for something like that.
I clicked IMMEDIATELY as soon as I saw this. Another great reaction as always. I love the analogies you use as you describe how the elements of the songs sound as well.
Can't wait to hear your take on 'Louder Than Love', which, as it happens, is one of my all time favourite albums. :)
Ditto on Louder than Love...my favorite SG album
Thanks so much, I'm happy you enjoyed the reaction! This album was incredible, so glad I finally got around to hearing it. I'll definitely plan on checking out Louder Than Love here on the channel as well :)
I need to listen to this album in full! Those guitars and vocals sound unreal! That early 90s sound is so good!
Hell yes, Molly!
I have been waiting for you to get around to this one for months! This is a top 20 album of all time for me in any genre!
Nice, thanks for waiting! This album was fantastic, I can totally see why it's in your top 20 of all time. There's a lot of variety to be had here, it definitely transcends simply being a "grunge" album. They incorporate so many elements and fuse it all together with a level of emotion and heart that makes Soundgarden such a talented band.
@@mollyesanborn They're like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath in one... Those are my Dads 3 favorite bands.
Outshined was the first SG song that I heard. I ran to the record store (Tower Records), instantly, left my folks a note that said " ill be back in a couple of hours. U guys know how it goes when J has to run right to Tower on the train".
I was like "Dad?" when i first heard outshined. I got it, threw it on when i got home, I was like "You must be REALLY sick of driving those forklifts, huh?" Slaves and Bulldozers ended up being my fav on the album. Even now, 30 years later, it still melts my face. I like Pearl Jam a little better (cuz they never stopped putting out high-level stuff), but SG is the one that got me out of fooling around with rap and being primarily a rock kid. This, Ten, bleach, core, and the AIC stuff made me happy little kid
This album is another one of my All-time favorite albums. Outshined got me started on this band, but my favorite track is Rusty Cage! Not just From hearing that on the Road Rash video game, but when Johnny Cash (The man in black) covers your song you did something special. All I can hope for now, is that Soundgarden especially Chris Cornell can finally have his place in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame someday.
I can see why it's one of your favorites, this album is absolutely fantastic. I love the diversity across its runtime, so much power and energy but they balance it with so many other components as well. The saxophone at times was a nice surprise. And of course Chris Cornell's voice just shines across this entire record as well.
@@mollyesanborn May Chris Cornell's legacy live on, through his daughter Toni!
Another great review Molly. Chris's solo album "Euphoria Mourning" would be one to check out.
Thanks for watching! I'll have to check out Euphoria Mourning at some point too.
I wonder how many projects Chris Cornell has done throughout Soundgarden, Temple of the dog, Audioslave, and his solo career.
@@jakesmith6233of the top of my head I think it's 15 total, but I may be wrong
Not forgetting he guest starred on a couple of other band’s releases like Alice in Chain’s SAP (Right Turn). Pure bliss.
@@badmotorbreath5206 And wrote the song light on by David Cook.
Hi, me and my best friend enjoyed watching your reaction. The album sounds really good! We are going to listen to more of Sound Garden’s music :)
Glad you enjoyed the reaction! Soundgarden is AMAZING, I hope you enjoy listening to this album.
Love it! No other band quite like 'em. Enjoy the ride!
@@mollyesanborn Thanks. When me and my best friend saw your notification, we jumped with joy and said Alright, now lets watch Molly’s new vlog! We high fived and said Yeah at the same time! :D
@@mollyesanborn What do you think of me and my best friend watching your vlogs and enjoying them? :)
With all the Punk & Doom on the album you can hear how this influenced Sludge bands like Mastodon & Kylesa - btw looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Leviathan, Mastodon’s second album!
I'll definitely have to get into more Mastodon on the channel! I look forward to hearing Leviathan :)
Thanks for another great reaction, Molly! BMF is dear to my heart. I was 15, and Alternative Rock was one of my passions. Not all of it of course, but Soundgarden was one of the top bands. Of “The Big Four” grunge bands that people often refer to, only Soundgarden could do what they did. It’s not just Chris’ voice. They were using odd time signatures, Matt Cameron was making you drop your drink with his syncopation on drums, Kim Thayil was almost creeping you out with his lead guitar work, the lyrics were potent and bold, and Ben Shephard’s bass - the instrument that is often the underdog in a band - growled with a rabid wildness. Jesus Christ Pose is one of the most exciting tracks I’ve ever heard, bar none. And live, it was BONKERS. I saw them at Lollapalooza in 1992, unfortunately my only time, but at least I got to see them. Pearl Jam was on the tour, and the two bands collaborated on the Temple Of The Dog song “Hunger Strike”. Temple Of The Dog was Chris’ project with the Matt Cameron on drums and three members of the yet to be formed Pearl Jam. It was a dedication to a dear musician friend lost to drugs. I HIGHLY recommend that eponymous album. It is a touchstone in the Alternative/Grunge era. This video was a lovely surprise to wake up to! Take care!!!
Thanks for checking out the reaction! This album is incredible, Soundgarden poured so much energy and soul into it and that really comes through in the music. Jesus Christ Pose is one of my favorites, I can only imagine witnessing them playing it live! That must've been such an amazing experience. I'll definitely have to do a Temple of the Dog reaction in the future as well, I look forward to hearing it!
@@mollyesanborn Eddie Vedder sings with Chris on “Hunger Strike”.
Northern hemisphere. Autumn. 1991. Albums released. Nirvana Nevermind. Metallica Black Album. Pearl Jam 10. Red Hot Chilli Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Soundgarden Bad Motorfinger. Guns n Roses Use Your Illusion. What a freckin line up! And that's just the tip of that year. Hip Hop had De La Soul De La Soul Is Dead. A Tribe Called Quest Low End Theory. Etc. Pop had Michael Jackson Dangerous. Prince And The New Power Generation Diamonds And Pearl's. Something for everyone.
Man, I can still remember where I was when listening to this album when it came out. In my dorm room just playing it as loud as I could. Good times.
React to Louder Than Love their second album
I'll definitely have to give that album a listen as well!
Molly, that was a good one. Slaves and Bulldozers became my favorite. I just couldn't believe a human could vocally be that powerful and still sound so great. what an album and time in my life with other albums at the same time. my music glory days starting college. I hope you also get around to some Dinosaur Jr. albums from those early 90s. not metal but such interesting and melodic songs.
Slaves & Bulldozers is definitely one of my favorites on this album as well, Chris Cornell is a powerhouse across this entire record and that song really shows off his vocal talent. I've got Dinosaur Jr. on my list of bands, I'd love to hear their music. I'll have to try and get to a reaction to them as well.
A classic from a great period in music. Miss these years. Miss Chris too.
Surely some STP soon?
I've got Stone Temple Pilots on my list! :)
this is my favorite Soundgarden album, a ton of great tracks here, Room a Thousand Years Wide being my favorite though, the way Chris opens screaming Yeahhhhh, the guitars nice and chunky, that drone throughout, and the the way it closes, like everyone in the band was given a random instrument from the horn section and then asked to play what a traffic jam sounds like
One of my favorites from this album too, such an incredibly heavy track and yet it retains so much smoothness as well. And yeah that ending is such a whirlwind, so many sounds going on!
Had this on cassette as a kid. One summer, it got stuck in the tape deck of my Datsun 210. I listened to it daily for multiple months and I still put this album on regularly. An absolute masterpiece. Matt Cameron is a perfect drummer. I'd listen to just the hi hat track from beginning to end.
First time viewer, I really like your descriptions of these songs. It's giving me new ways to talk about music which I always love.
This is one of my favourite Soundgarden albums. Along with Superunknown and UltraMega OK.
Thanks so much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction!
Most excellent review Molly. This is an absolute juggernaut of an album. Every song is great. Probably my favourite album of the grunge era.
Thanks for watching! Yeah this album is incredible, so glad I've finally given it a listen.
Excellent analysis I hadn't listened to this since I had the cassette. Love this album
Yes, such an amazing album. Thanks for checking out the reaction!
This was the first cassette I bought with money I earned myself as a young teenager, and it still sounds as amazing as it did then!
Chris Cornell was the only musician in history who had the versatility to be able to go from being a Seattle Grunge icon to a James Bond theme creator with You Know My Name (Casino Royale). No one sings like him anymore.
Molly you give some of the best reactions/ views of anyone on CZcams… Thank you!
Wow thank you so much! I'm happy that you're enjoying the videos :)
Thank you for the review. Was fortunate to see this tour back in the day as they opened for Skid Row in Indianapolis Indiana..the band was still pretty unknown at the time and they were in a record shop signing autographs. Me and couple of friends got the band to sign some bumper stickers that a local radio station had set at their table.. I remember thinking that it was weird for someone to be wearing combat boots and shorts but that was Cornell's style. I never saw Soundgarden again live but was able to catch a solo acoustic show of Cornell's in downtown Seattle at the Paramount theatre. It was amazing and one of my top 5 shows.. Cornell's voice and talent are sorely missed.
Nice review as always. I think this along with Superunknown are Soundgarden's best albums. Both are great great albums.
Both are incredible albums, I agree. Badmotorfinger has a bit more punchiness to it while Superunknown really embraces that heavier more slowed down side to their sound.
What makes the guitars so snarly and sick is that they do these insane tunings, like “mind riot”, all the string are tuned to the E note, hence the sitar sound. Been waiting for you to review this for a while and you never disappoint!
Great reaction as always! I think this is their best album as well. My favorite few songs on Superunknown are better than the songs on Badmotorfinger, but as a whole I think Badmotorfinger is better.
My favorite album from them and one of my favorite albums of all time. Definitely up there with some of my favorite albums of all time along with other albums like Angel Dust, Fair Warning, Rust In Peace, Meteora, The Fat Of The Land, and more. Thanks for doing this album. I’d say do their album Louder Than Love next. Some of my favorites on Badmotorfinger are the first four songs, Room A Thousand Years Wide, and Holy Water.
It's a fantastic album, I completely agree! I'll definitely have to check out Louder Than Love as well.
Here's a weirdish digression:
The Seattle music scene would have been changed in fundamental ways if Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone had not OD'd in 1990.
To tie it to Soundgarden, Chris Cornell (and other members of the band, but especially Cornell) took Wood's death very hard and there seem to be a lot of references to him in many of Cornell's songs. In another way, if Cornell had not gotten members of MLB together to make the tribute album Temple of the Dog, there would not have been a Pearl Jam (since Gossard and Ament would still be in MLB and Vedder would not have been 'auditioning' with TotD.)
This album makes me so nostalgic. One of my all time favorites. Your reactions always make me go and listen to the whole album after. I understand that your style is cutting them up so you can react to the whole album, which was annoying at first but if I'm here is to know what you think, I already know the songs. I always appreciate your analyses, you seem honest and open to learn and explore different musical realms. Nice.
I can understand why this album is one of your favorites, it's such an amazing record. Soundgarden really poured their heart and soul into this project, you can hear that passion coming through so clearly. And as for the video format that's always what I've intended, for my reactions to just be a sample if you will of the album and I always encourage viewers to go and check the full albums out in their own time. I'm glad the format has grown on you, and I really appreciate the kind words :)
@@mollyesanborn Yes, this album is the rawest, more defining album of them, I mean they have many beautiful albums but this one is like their true milestone. It defined a part of my life so much. Superunknown is a bit more refined and evolved, this one here is just....RAW. And yeah, it's your channel, you do you, in the end you'll attract the people who enjoy it and I learned to flow through this style of reactions and I like it. I don't remember if you've reacted to Primus, but that would be fun. Album Pork Soda.
@@laeonflux nope I still haven't gotten to Primus. I'll definitely keep em in mind :)
Nicely done Molly , Rooms a thousand years wide is my favorite
Thanks for watching! Yeah this entire album is fantastic, so glad I've finally given it a listen.
@@mollyesanborn your very welcome
Great reaction to this. This album had such a big effect on me back in high school. This is actually the first time I've noticed how much Face Pollution sounds like it could've been on Down on the Upside!
I noticed you were curious about the guitar tone, that's Kim Thayil's Guild Polaris, a cheap SG copy (at the time he bought it) with slightly microphonic pickups that he liked using out of phase in some parts of songs. It's very unique that Guild just realised a proper signature release of it a few months ago...
You should check out one of the best grunge albums from the 90's Above by Mad Season ( super group consisted of Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Mike McCready ( Pearl Jam) and additional vocals and drums from screaming trees members
Absolutely, I have Mad Season on my list to get to. Can't wait to hear them!
"Room A Thousand Years Wide" is my fav song on this guitar. It just simmers with tension.
🎶tomorrow begat tomorrow!!🎶
Nice pick. I've always loved Kim Thayil's work on guitar. He never goes in the direction I expect.
My absolute favorite Soundgarden album...R.I.P Chris Cornell; so happy to see these reactions...def need to hear Prong and Godflesh
This is a perfect album! Chris sounds so amazing on this whole project.
Down on the Upside is probably my favourite Soundgarden album, it's very different despite being very similar. Cant wait for that one.

Molly, I was literally just thinking about this yesterday, wondering if you were going to revisit some Soundgarden. So glad you did, excellent reaction! 👍💯
What a coincidence! Yeah I'm so glad I finally got around to listening to Badmotorfinger, an incredible album from start to finish.
@@mollyesanborn I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can't say that the rest of their discography (other than Superunknown) did much for me, but Chris Cornell went on to headline the group "Audioslave," and their self titled 2002 album is quite good. 👍💯
The entire album is terrific, I like Superunknown a little bit better because, fun fact, I actually listened to it first and went backwards in their disco from there. I always liked Outshined and Jesus Christ Pose, but it's still an overall fantastic album.
Great analysis and opinions as always, Molly! Can't wait to see what you have on tap next!
Thanks for checking out the reaction! So glad I've finally heard Badmotorfinger, Soundgarden really threw everything into this album and I love the energy that it has. Jesus Christ Pose is just insane, the adrenaline they pumped into that song is so crazy!
Outshined was definitely the song that sold me on Soundgarden back in the day. I think they played Rusty Cage twice an hour on MTV. Glad to know you dug this one, it's a super energetic rock album, great for driving or drinking but not both at the same time 🥴.

About Slaves and Bulldozers, you hit the nail on the head. The guitar rhythms and grinding sounds are meant to represent mechanical/industrial sounds. Subbed. Your a sharp tac, with good tastes.
Such a fantastic track! I love that slower, more grinding industrial quality to its tone. And thanks for the sub, I appreciate it and am glad you're enjoying the videos :)
@@mollyesanborn I don't know if it's on your list, but I'd like to branch out and recommend one of my favorite albums that I see missing from your library... The Stone Roses first self titled album.

Over the years i think i became obsessed by Mind Riot. Love this track. Sort of beatlesy-psychedelic-muddy with great pop melodies.
This album is one of those you can listen to cover to cover and like all these songs. My personal favorite: Drawing Flies.
Room a Thousand Years Wide and Holy Water I think are my 2 favorite Soundgarden songs of all time. Badmotorfinger is the most metallic and also most unique project of all the Seattle bands, I absolutely love it
So much good music from these guys. We didn’t hear about them up here on Vancouver Island, or perhaps Canada in general, until their first major label album. That was their second album, Louder Than Love, and the introduction for me was via the music video for Loud Love, the first single off of it. Loved it, and loved them ever since. Every album is good. Glad you’re checking them out. Definitely high on my list of favourite bands.

A great album that reveals all the greatness of Chris Cornell. His vocals on Slaves & Bulldozers and Jesus Christ Pose are just phenomenal.
I agree 10000%. The whole band is just on another level, and Chris Cornell's vocals absolutely shine across this entire record.
My favourite song from this album that for some reason that I can't remember missed getting added to the album is Birth Ritual. It was performed live in The Singles movie by Cameron Crowe & on the soundtrack
Hmm I'll have to find that song and give it a listen sometime, I wonder why it was cut from the album. Thanks for letting me know about it.
Nice job molly, you need to listen to swans. Start with their trilogy of triple lps. The seer, to be kind, the glowing man.
Yesss, I've been wanting to check Swans out for quite some time now. Can't wait to hear them!
Awesome album and a good example of how to use dissonance successfully.
Seeing Jesus Christ Pose live, right next to the speakers and maybe 10 feet from Chris, is one of the best times of my life.
Shame it was his solo band and not full Soundgarden, but it's still amazing.
That must've been incredible! There's so much energy they pour into that song.
hey there molly, love your channel and hearing your thoughts on all these classics. ‘Louder Than Love’ is my favorite Soundgarden album. But this is an easy second favorite. Their earlier albums had more energy. Chris Cornell reminded me of a young Robert Plant.
Excellent album from Soundgarden. At the same time, there was the Palm Desert scene going on.
Kyuss - Welcome To Sky Valley; Blues For The Red Sun; And The Circus Leaves Town
John Garcia, Josh Homme, Scott Reeder and more. Stoner Rock meets Desert Rock. Revving engines and rising air.
Yawning Man - Rock Formations; Nomadic Pursuits; Vista Point (standouts: Sonny Bono Memorial Freeway, Digital Smoke Signal
Recent live event: Live At Giant Rock - Yawning Man | An Epic Sonic and Scenic Portrait
Gary Arce, Mario Lalli, Alfredo Hernandez, Larry Lalli and more.
Here's a question for you, Molly:
What, of the albums you've listened to, are the ones you come back to for multiple re-listens?
Kyuss is another band you might want to check out, as well as Queens of the Stone Age. Kyuss does a lot of Black Sabbath-inspired stoner rock; QotSA is a lot like Soundgarden in a lot of ways, but also totally different. Both bands have the same guitarist. From what I've seen of your musical taste you'll probably like them.
Hmm, off the top of my head the albums I still listen to on heavy rotation are Around The Fur and White Pony by Deftones, L.D. 50 by Mudvayne, I still return to the debut self-titled albums from Korn and Slipknot quite a bit. Also Angel Dust by Faith No More. Lately it's been Aenima by Tool, I'm currently obsessed with that one. There's more, perhaps I'll have to do a video talking about which albums have become my favorites over time. I'll be sure to keep Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age in mind as well, thank you for the suggestions :)
EDIT: I almost forgot, Streetcleaner by Godflesh for sure is a favorite. That one has been on loop since filming my reaction to it.
Rusty cage in Jesus Christ Pose have gotten some heat from other reactors. Glad to see your reaction. I like both those songs as well.
Absolutely my favorite Soundgarden album and one of my top ten albums, period. Chris Cornell's voice never sounded better than it did on this album. Perfect amount of power mixed with soul. Nobody has his range. And the rest of the band was on another level creatively. Chaotic clarity... if that's a thing. Took their experimental nature of their previous albums and just sculpted all those ideas into a perfect album.
You summed up this album perfectly, chaotic clarity is exactly what they achieved. I loved Superunknown as well but Badmotorfinger they kept a bit more power and grit mixed with the grunge. Makes for an excellent blend of styles.
Brandy Carlisle does a great cover of ‘searching with my good eye closed’. Her voice is perfect for it.
Ooh I'll have to check that out!
Classic after classic on this channel
Mind Riot is perhaps my favorite song of all time. "I'm lucks last match struck in the pouring down wind."
Check out the pre-grunge bands:
Skin Yard: Skin Yard (1987); Hallowed Ground; 1000 Smiling Knuckles; Fist Sized Chunks
Ben McMillan's and with sub-pop produces Jack Endino and among others Barrett Martin, later drummer for the Screaming Trees. Skins In My Closet is really a song from a band trying to find their style, on the cusp of inventing the Grunge sound.
The Wipers - Over The Edge (1983)
Highly inspirational to the entire scene.
Green River: Come On Down (1985); Rehab Doll/Dry As A Bone
Green River is the future members of Pearl Jam and Mudhoney.
Slaves and Bulldozers is so good
One of my favorites from this album as well!
First time I was exposed to SG was the video for Jesus Christ Pose on the local cable channel in Anaheim and I was like There's no Hook! I loved it. To this day I bump Outshined and Rusty Cage at full volume. At the time, they were Beating us over the head with the Grunge Scene. Even Depeche Mode put out a grunge record lol I hated that period in time but SG has aged well. Chris Cornell and Layne/Jerry from Alice in chains were the best vocalists from their scene
Just saw your video on Helmet. This was actually controversial album with the song "Jesus Christ Pose." Had a friend in Texas in the early '90s who wanted to me to make a mix of Soundgarden tunes but not "Jesus Christ Pose." Thank you for reviewing albums that influenced everyone after they were heard. But, don't get the recognization they desevre
Searching with my good eye closed ftw!
One of my biggest regrets in life is being a teenager in the 90s from Seattle and not being into the grunge bands from here until after many of them either broke up or started dying. I could've seen some amazing bands in tiny bar venues for like 10 bucks. Heartbreaking.
Molly, I really hope you do a react for the band Temple of the Dog. They were a supergroup made out of members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam (Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden, and Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam). The album is so good, and highlights the talents of each of these artists. You will not be sorry you listened.
I'll definitely have to plan on doing a Temple of the Dog reaction as well, a lot of people have been suggesting them.
Amazing album from an Amazing band
💯♥️🇦🇺
You should do the second days of the new record or the 'green' record next, I'm curious what you'd think of it
I love this album from them. I know its not as big as Superunknown but I listen to it probably the most from them.
That's for doing this. I enjoy listening to your perspectives on the songs and bands from this era. I was so lucky to grow up in this era with these bands and it's interesting to me to see someone's reaction to it when listening to it for the first time in this place in time. Do you have any interest in giving your perspective on any Nirvana albums? Particularly In Utero?
Thanks for checking out the reactions, I wish I had been growing up when these records were being released. Such an amazing era for music. I'm already a bit familiar with Nirvana's music so I wouldn't do reactions to their albums, perhaps i will do a different style of video for something related to Nirvana in the future though :)
Amazing album
This is my favorite Soundgarden album. For me this is where they hit the perfect balance between the rawer sound of their older stuff and the more polished sound later. I love the weirdness and creativity on this album. Definitely check out the first Audioslave album if you haven't already.
I agree, they really struck a great balance on this record. It blends so much together into such a cohesive project. I'll definitely have to do some Audioslave in the future, can't wait to hear them!
Yes, now see if you can find a copy with the "Satan Oscillate My Metallic Sonatas" EP got a great off-key start to Slaves and Bulldozers live that I'm not sure why they added. My personal fav since I got this CD for my 18th b-day in March of 1992 is and always will be "Drawing Flies"
YEEES!!!!...So glad to see you back doing Soundgarden Molly!!! as always a brilliant upload. Badmotorfinger is a phenomenal record
Thanks for watching! I'm so glad I've finally heard this album, Soundgarden packed quite a punch with Badmotorfinger.
I really think you should give Big Wreck and Thornley a listen... Canada band(s) (Ian Thornely is the singer and main song writer, he soloed for a while), Thornley is often compared to Cornell, similar voices. Great GREAT stuff, a bit more pop but it is soooo good.
