#practiceguitar #guitarriffs #classicrockguitar - Hudba
What other classic riffs can you think of, that are cool exercises or warm ups?
Great tips, thanks RJ! How about taking a look at some riffs by: Billy Squire, Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top, Smashing Pumpkins?
Anything by King Crimson. I mean, I respect the band and love some of the music, but a lot of the guitar parts really feel like finger exercises.
Message in a Bottle always hurts... Sweet Child... I Walk the Line... Miserlou... Spirit of Radio... Julian Lage's live intro to I'll be Seeing You is a wild workout (It's a classic to me...). Thanks for doing this, by the way. I'm really enjoying your videos and demos!
South of Heaven is a fun one.
The opening riff of Crazy Train is a good one in my opinion.
Great ideas for fun things to work on that develop technique :) cool lessons dude!
Thanks Justin, love your videos!
Very cool! Show's that we never progress past student!
Thank you Justin!
2:31 to skip the ad
As a beginner, "Crazy Train" riff is very good for finger strength and co ordination.
the Yousician commercial makes me want to quit playing guitar
pssst, hey, use brave.com/ as your browser.
It's really fast, secure, safe and you'll never, NEVER have to see, wait to skip a another youtube add EVER again! I love it... it blocks a lot of crap, tracking, etc! I promise you'll love it!
Get over it and stop being a precious twat. The lesson is free. You are essentially get a free lesson just to watch an ad.
@@gomezsaints Always cracks me up when some moron is too dull to understand that nothing is free. His time isnt free, the bandwidth isn't free his gear isn't free but hey dude youre a jerk for wanting to get paid for your expertise
Denis Kendesch i do not like your name
I use mulitiple add blocks on my PC works great...
Incorporating the metronome into your lesson is a massive improvement over other teachers. I see endless YT videos about licks and riffs, some of which have tabs. But almost none of them pay much attention to the rhythm which is obviously essential.
I've just discovered your channel. I'm going to watch some more videos. I truly have no idea how some people can dislike this video. I feel like I have improved my guitar skills only by imitating you (at a much slower speed). I'm gonna use this video as a daily practice tutorial. I mean, there is all I was looking for : A funny dude, taking time to explain what he does, what is the interest of such exercices, adding tabs to the video to make the lesson easier to get. You even have the honesty to indicate which channel you take a little tip from. (I hope this last sentence is understandable. I'm not that fluent in English. Haha...) Anyway, I definitively like your way of doing. Keep the good work !
The soundbrenner pulse seems to be a good gadget.
GREAT lesson, RJ! Thanks. That was like a "Who's Who" of riffs I wish I had learned already, and you set them up in a great set of exercises to get better. And I do love some Vernon Reid. Video already added to my favorites.
Enjoying you having more time at home to post more lessons! I have never been able to figure out how to start Blues alternate picking. How to work out building a bass line while playing a riff. Still donât really, but Riff #1 thank you.
Always enjoy your roots/Blues playing. Would love see some more Blues based lessons.
Thank you for your generosity.
PL&U
Great to see someone that can really play and teach. I have never known anyone that appears very talented be work shy and systematically break a job down into smaller parts systematically I love your work.
As a guitarist with 20+ years experience, I really enjoy your vids and always learn a new trick to add to my arsenal.
Thank you for making this video lesson! It is very useful to see both the playing of the riff and to have the tab there as well.
You hooked me with the Jake guitar, fed my gear hunger with that gizmo and got me to practice. Subscribed and ready to keep on pickinâ !!!
Great lesson man. I enjoyed your whole style, lingo, approach, choice of songs, video quality and composition, lighting, cool guitar, and editing.
You really make students work for it. I needed a teacher like you about 20 years ago. I like the riff selection. Very cool songs. Thanks RJ.
Just excellent! Please do more of these videos. Great songs, excellent teaching, lots of fun!
RJ is far and away my favourite CZcams guitar guy.
Another awesome lesson. I saw a video with Vernon Reed showing how he played that riff. I played that song with a group from School of Rock. I had a real hard time with the riff you showed so for the gig I came up with a riff I could pull off. Now back to the wood shed so I can play it right. Thanks man.
Awesome lesson! Thanks. I had forgotten how great Steve Stevens was and is. It's great to see that he's still playing great after all these years.
great lesson, and idea using cool riffs to practice with. Thanks RJ!
Cool man !! I am a guitar teacher and your video give me some ideas, I am watching you from CHILE (south america), great video, thanks !!
Cool lesson, as always. I have to admit, I always smile when you say your surname: I live in Spain so I say it the Spanish way. It doesnât quite rhyme with âdilly yoâ but hey...:)
Love the Steve Stevens riff!
Love the Jake E. Lee Charvel đ
Jake E Lee is one the best of all time!!!
thanks as always for yer tips for us RJ. the soundbrenner pulse / app is a great tool suggestion as well.
Ben Eller is an awesome guitar CZcamsr as well !
Wanted to say thanks for the metronome app, after watching this last night, I immediately downloaded it.
The licks are cool too!
Loving the comedy aspect in your videos! Keep it up your a funny guy!! Iâve been watching your videos since the Eastwood Guitar videos! Funny thing is I stumbled across Eastwood Guitars and fell in love with the Sidejack model, looked it up in CZcams and you were pretty much the only one demoing them.......then became a fan of yours!! Great videos bro! Keep up the awesome work! Oh and by the way, your touring videos were awesome also, very informative! Thank you!
Love your new videos. You make this difficult stuff fun . You crack me up !!
Awesome pulse product can I get five to strap round my drummer's head, neck, torso, waist and feet?
that would be awesome.
I find that a dog shock-collar attaches to my tap tempo works well
Going mod that led flashing in the pulse unit and put mirror reflectors in the toms so he canât start rushing again as heâll be bound in a hypnotic trance....when he complains Iâll say well you said you hated the click so deal with it
Set them all at slightly different tempos.

Pretty Awesome!...well thought out and applicable to overall improvement..Thank You Sir!
Thank you for the lessons. I love your videos. Entertaining and instructional.
RJ! Thanks for including standard notation, as well as TAB. Standard notation can be difficult for us guitar players. But once we get it, we find it provides SO much info above and beyond where to put your fingers. Iâm fortunate that I learned to read on wind instruments before I began my guitar advantures.
...and thanks for the insights into Vernon Reidâs riff on âCult of Personalityâ. Big fan of Vernon.
Great lesson, Great teacher, Great guitarist! Thank you for your time!
Thanks for this much appreciated! I have just sat and struggled through them, 20mins later and I'm hooked and faster! đ
Thatâs cool af! Thanks buddy! Keep em coming!
Enormous Video! Very glad I checked it out.
Great stuff as always, keep it up RJ!
For an extra challenge, on the Steve Stevens riff, I worked on playing this with pick and two (or three) fingers. Add an interesting level of complexity, but if I master it this way, I still have a pick in my hand for what may come next. Very cool! Thanks!
Great lesson, lots to work on here. Thank you R.J.
Man, that was awesome. More like this please! Thanks.
Very cool riffs , love it ! Many thanks for this .
Heroic Video! Fantastic job on this video.
Excellent bro!, you are my favorite guitar channel! I'm going to start off my practice days with you from now on!
Thanks gearmeister!! đđ
Wow, yet another great video! What's kind of funny is you joke about The Romantics "That's What I Like About You" at 7:09 and that's another song that is deceptively tricky to play correctly. That opening is a great rhythm exercise. There's a part of that strum pattern where you're hitting the open low E string independently and its really hard to do fast up to tempo. For me, nor for you I'm sure. Anyhow, thank you for another awesome video,
Love these examples.
Heroic Video! It assisted me a lot!
great video once again !!! and great improvement with tabs and click !! would love to see a stdio tour ! keep up the good work and thanks !!
Really great information and video. Thanks for sharing with us :)
I'm new to guitar and I have to say, learning is so hard. way harder than I ever thought.
Hang in there and in the end you will be great
How's it going?
When he put the watch thing around his mouth, I subbed.
Great work. Loved the examplesđ
Thanks for explaining the Vernon Reid solo. I've dug that since the record came out in what, 88??? I can't remember, but now I'm finally gonna learn it. Thanks for posting.
Sorry I'm late to the party, some days traveling really sucks. I own the pulse & use it with the app, and like R.J. wear it on my upper right arm. Highly recommend for any & everyone as it will really help with timing which is something that I think a lot of us struggle with (maybe it's just me?). Fair warning, the app will use a lot of battery so I suggest charging while using if you will be using it for an extended period. Thanks for the video R.J. I really enjoy your stuff. Keep it up. Intro to "Piledriver" by Damn Yankees is one that comes to mind.
Great lesson...thanks for the thorough explanation.
Nice job..well presented. Thanks
Nice! Very very good! Thanks for the class!!!
Thanks RJ for a 'shit hot' session on the coolest riffs for warm up practice ever! Thank you for also reminding me about Living Color... damn! When they were at the top of their game I use to listen to them every day; I'm now 53. I'm going to listen to them now, and maybe later, might even listen to them tomorrow, also the weekend sounds good. What the Hell! I'll just listen to them for the next 24/7. Love the videos, technique exercises, and your general mischievous gallivanting nature and humor. I can now show my wife that rock stars generally aren't doosh bags!
Great lesson - thanks so much. Good choice of tunes!
The first (Steve Stevens) Riff would also be a good exercise in Hybrid picking, where you keep the pick between thumb and index finger, hitting the bass notes and plucking the notes on the high b and e string with your middle and ring fingers.
Probably make the bass notes ring out a bit more too.
As always, great riffs and lessons! đ€đœ
Great vid RJ, keep up the good content
Gawwwddd the Chet Atkins and Travis style picking just kicks my ass every time but Iâd love to do it. Forever stuck in metal
Great riffs!! HAve to try them out.
Another great video R.J.! Living Colour had so many great songs, I love them! That riff is absolutely classic though and I'll be happy to learn it now :-)
Great video, man I always thought welcome to the jungle was delayed!
Thanks for sharing...Your tone is excellent btw.
Great video! It assisted me a lot!
Critical Video! Very glad I checked it out.
Awesome!! thank you!
Excellent breakdown of those riffs!
Really dig your lessons and tour vlogs! Cool to see a fellow Fil-Am axe player from the same generation be successful in the music industry. Can totally relate with your guitar journey and music you listened to...first solo I had my guitar teacher teach me was the Marty McFly version of Johnny B Goode. :) You of course took it to the next level and made it a career...just a hobby for me so watching your vids is like living out a part of my dream. Keep the vids coming, bro!
What a cool lesson & tutorial... thanks !
excellent vid and great choice of songs. I have to say steve stevens is one of my fave guitarists and is partialy responsible for me wanting to learn to play guitar. idol and him where a match made in heaven.
Prodigious Video! It assisted me a lot!
All great riffs and all great exercises thanks for sharing
Great tips man
Great lesson. Thank you. Subscribed
Great video!! Thanksđđ»
Awesome video! It helped me a lot!
Great video as always. Thanks and please keep them coming. Also, how about an update vlog of the Madana cover tour.
Queen - Keep Yourself Alive is a great one
Great rock sound! Cool video. Love the Charvel!
So many great songs wouldn't be the same without the RIFF! Nice one!
Dude, I always have very ass-kissy stuff to say about your work. (This video is no exception!) But you've become one of my favorite guitarists on CZcams because you are THE Eastwood demo guy. I bought their Airline guitar after months of watching you play an Airline guitar, and it was the best financial investment of my musical life. I love that guitar! And the association between you and that guitar flowed over into me becoming also an R.J. fan. Keep up the good work!
Red Faust same here, I was checking out an Eastwood map dlx in a local music shop. Typed it in on the tube and saw a guy playing wrecking ball of all things on that same guitar. Followed instantly!
i think we all have that moment watching RJ.
mine is an Airline Tuxedo (all the demos) but mainly the Sleepwalker rendition that he plays on the RJ & the Del Guapos album. totally changed my view on sound and instruments
Thanks Red!! đđ
personally have the twin tone but love it all the same
this was very interesting and helpful ( funny too !) I'm gonna try adding a metronome to my practicing now !
Groovy Video! It helped me a lot!
So glad I found this tonight. Thx
good riff exercise , thank you .
Awesome Ronquillo video
I just love this man and I don't know why
Great lesson RJ Very appreciated.
Great Tips Thx
Great video and lesson!!!!!
Real good vid. Excellent way of working in your sponsor. Didnt rep like a sales.pitch. you actually show features any guitarist of any skill level can benefit.
Keep it up. SUBBED
