For me, the word "riff" in pop, or "ostinato" in classical music is an idea which is repeated over and over again to drive all, or at least *part* of a song.
I can't hear anything like that in Hotel California or Stairway To Heaven and the Brown Sugar "riff" only appears 4x, inthe intro and then is never heard again!
Obvious examples of what I call "riffs" are songs like All Day & All of The Night and You Really Got Me! 😉
My favourite riffs from the 70s would include:
    1. Rebel, Rebel, by David Bowie. 2. Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry 3. The bass guitar riff which enters at the end of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac.
I agree with you about AC/DC though, writers of iconic riffs! 😉

    3. Lesson suggestions other: A lesson on amp/guitar setting on a strat\LP to get different types of sound.-I know nothing and can't figure them out so tend to just stay with acoustic but would love to.

If you ever meet Billy Gibbons again, please don't pronounce LaGrange that way! 😂😂😂😂

The Sab's place and show finish was awesome and well deserved. Makes me yearn for my younger days. The first album (actually a double album) I ever bought for my GE all-in-one turntable/8-track player/recorder was Black Sabbath We Sold Our Souls For RnR. Made my parents rather concerned. Great job yet again Marty. Rock on!

Please Marty, how do you remember how to play all these tunes - It seems I’ve forgotten more than I can remember when it comes to “what to play “. Lesson on this would be invaluable, please sir.....

I've learned a lot of riffs from you over the year so thanks.
That said, I think this was just an excuse to show off all your cool guitars.

The fact that you chose Black Dog as your #1 riff demonstrates your impecable, refined and educated knowledge of Classic Rock guitar. Although I wasn't a huge fan of Tony Iommi's rather simple style (compared to Jimmy Page or Ritchie Blackmore) I loved Black Sabbath as a sound. By the way, thanks for all your great teaching videos, you're one of the best.

Being a Texan, had to say that you pronounce "La Grange" to rhyme with "range". We seldom pronounce foreign language city names the way a native speaker would.
