  • www.autobytel.c... The Ram ProMaster City is not a mere minivan; instead it has best-in-class capabilities. The ProMaster is up against the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV, and Chevy City Express. The gauntlet has been thrown down and the ProMaster City is a worthy choice for cargo hauling capability.

    I think this could be the vehicle i've been looking for. As an outdoor adventurist, I like the ability to fit all my gear including a kayak, mountain bike and my Honda CT70 trail bike. There is also enough room to sleep in the back, and a back seat. I"m gonna test drive one this weekend. Some people think it is ugly, i think it looks pretty cool as long as you get the alloy wheels. I just wish it had a little more ground clearance. There is a company in Colorado that makes a 1.5 inch lift kit for the front end.

      Hey, thats great. Im curious, did this end up being the vehicle for you? I once converted a bus but have since sold it am now looking for something smaller but still ready for work and adventures alike. This seems to be my favorite so far.

    I owned this very model, but in white. I sold it two-years later for more than I paid for it from the dealer. It did everything I wanted. It averaged 23 mpg combined. It handled like a car, not a van. It parked smoothly in any space available. I purchased it used with 35,000 miles on the ODO. When I sold it, it had 55,000 on the ODO. I did not want to sell it. But, I bought a BMW roadster and a 1997 Camaro Z28. So, the van went. Promaster City....Five Stars

      Yeah I live in GA and I'm interested in one of these. Every Dealer I've been to doesn't have the wagon version in stock. Only the cargo
      Version.

    • @ernieD
      @ernieD Před 5 lety

      @@geraldroland5079 I was on the phone with 4 different dealerships telling me the 2nd row bench is some kind of 3rd party aftermarket add on. That it only comes as a cargo van from factory.
      I just found a nice 2018 red Promaster City SLT w/bench seat about 20 miles from me. It has the nicer spoke wheels but are 14's-15's? They look so tiny.
      I may have to go test drive it soon. But I've lived with my 3rd row seat stowed in my '15 Toy Highlander since I bought it new. So I can keep doing so if need be. And i'd hope the little Ram is as comfy and reliable as my Toyota has been, kinda doubt that part.

    In the next generation FCA really needs to work on those rear sliders. They are a bit on the narrow side. Other than that it seems to be a very good van for its purpose. If you need a small business van that can also haul the kids around this might not be a bad option.

  • @ViralTuber
    @ViralTuber Před 8 lety +6

    Hopefully in 10 years or so, it'll cross their minds to make the rear seats removable.
    I'd buy one if that were the case now. How much trouble to remove the rear seats with a wrench? Anyone know?
    Too much James Bond, would prefer more John Deere.

    • @ViralTuber
      @ViralTuber Před 8 lety +4

      I bought one. I'm going to remove the rear seats soon.

    • @jamesdufour4915
      @jamesdufour4915 Před 7 lety +1

      So, how'd the seat removal go?

    • @ViralTuber
      @ViralTuber Před 7 lety +6

      For the record, no one has ever sat in the rear seats of my Promaster to this day. Even still, I've not yet taken the time to remove them. I keep a bicycle in the back at all times, which only requires folding the seats forward. In fact, if I turn the bike's front wheel 90 degrees (i.e. perpendicular to the back wheel) I can even skilfully jam it in back with the rear seats in their upright/riding position.
      But on the removal question, I've checked and it does appear to just be a few bolts that need to be removed, and the seats should pop cleanly out with no fuss. Another cool option I've noticed is that you could either (1) remove the 2-seat bench behind driver, (2) remove the single-seat behind passenger, (3) *or* remove both.
      First, I plan to experiment with just removing the 2-seat bench, leaving the single seat in place. This way I could accommodate that rare third passenger, while still permanently opening up 2/3 of my cargo area to being "full length".
      Once just the rear loveseat is removed, there would be enough room behind the driver for one (~6 ft. tall or less) person to lie flat. ..or if you're taller than 6ft, keep your head behind the driver's seat but skew your body diagonally to the rear passenger side, again permitting stretched-flat resting.
      One last note: Ram says if you remove the rear seats brand new bolts should be used for any re-installation. Seems like overkill, but since I'm aware of their official recommendation I wanted to mention it.

    • @jamesdufour4915
      @jamesdufour4915 Před 7 lety +1

      I just ordered one but without the seats. The cargo space is more important than carrying passengers, and if the seats were easily removed and replaced I probably would have gotten them. But I went with the cargo version, all metal inside, but no bulkhead. I test drove one without any windows and I immediately chose to go with the windows, as I couldn't see anything beside or behind. Might have gotten used to that, but this van will be empty most of the time, so there's no need for the extra security.

    • @ViralTuber
      @ViralTuber Před 6 lety +6

      I wanted to update this post and say I ended up removing both rear seat sections. I love the new open configuration and will keep it this way. The mounting bolts are screwed back into he van floor so as never to become lost. I have the benches nicely stored in case I someday need them.

    @4:37 Are those plastic shelves on the right structurally supported to hold a real weight across the van? for say a plywood and 500lbs? Do they overhang the wheel wells? Are they at the same height as the front row seats when folded?

    There are really dumb features vans like this should just have, but rarely do and it would kill competition if they did... like... Back seats that slide way back and fold flat into a full size bed? rear windows that pop open or slide open.. Fold flat passenger seat... deep under trunk storage.

    cole its time to open your mind to the fact that superior european design performance and reliability has reached the u.s.a. there is good reason why european and japanese cars are the major sellers in america car market. you have to ask your self why u.s. cars are only really sold in the u.s! many of the features that will have turned up in u.s. cars will have come from europe or japan.

    • @wiibaron
      @wiibaron Před 8 lety +1

      +robert josele The highest selling EU vehicle in the US is # 38th ranked Jetta, which is made in Mexico. There are only 7 EU cars in the TOP 100 out of 280 vehicle possibilities for sale here. EU owns 41 of the BOTTOM 80 ranked by sales though, so you don't have a clue of what you are speaking of...Out of a 17 million market, EU will sell 1.4 million. So about 8%. Do US cars have 8% of the EU market?

    • @robertjosele2729
      @robertjosele2729 Před 8 lety

      +wiibaron chillaxe guy! sounds like you just might have missed the point here and the jetta came in at 20th by the way with the bmw 3/4 series coming in at 15th and if you count the ford 5th gen mondeo/fusion and focus in there, conceived, designed and engineered in europe, and added in the plethora of japanese and south korean marks in the list of u.s. best selling cars it's not looking quite so rosy! so to your question "do u.s cars have 8% of the e.u market?" every year I drive tens of thousands miles of miles all across europe and can go days without ever seeing so much as a cadillac a lincoln or even a jeep, i do see the odd chrysler or dodge around, although i don't think they count because they are owend by fiat. so if those figures are to be believed out of every 100 cars the pass me on the roads of europe 8 of them will be american brands? not sure where they are but nowhere that i can see. i do see quite lot in the middle east (saudi, dubai, u.a.e. ect) try looking at it this way, if olivier francois or the head of any van/car manufacturers in europe at a launch of any car or van said this car/van does 21 mpg round town and and 29 mpg on the run they wouldn't sell a unit. look like someone might have a vested interest in keeping the fuel consumption up on cars sold in the u.s! the fiat doblo when used as a car in europe isn't seen as economical as far as fuel consumption is concerned but it can return 45 mpg round town and 56 mpg on the run witch gives it a range of over 560 miles + on a tank, so that would allowing you to go coast to coast on only 5.8 tanks of fuel and there many more cars out there unlike the doblo that don't have the aerodynamics of a brick that can do much better mpg than that. so why are you all still buying cars that give such abysmal mpg?

      robert josele I should 'chillaxe'? You just babbled 10 inches of text and said nothing. You need real sales numbers to spout: Goodcarbadcar . net has all the sales numbers you will ever need to see EU brand cars don't sell that well over here...like you seem to think.

    • @robertjosele2729
      @robertjosele2729 Před 8 lety

      +wiibaron i have no need for sales numbers little dude! after all you were the one who extrapolated the need from a generalised comment on the changing face of the u.s. car market due to external brand importation into the use of finite sales figures! you are still going off on a tangent there, i am sure you are trying to make a point there some where, but for the life of me i can tell what it is. i can only conclude you have an obscure and as yet undisclosed reason in trying to generate conversation by using some statistical sales data gleaned from an erstwhile website, for no reason that is distinct or apparent. so ill will endeavor to make this succinct. you asked me a question in a previous posting "Do US cars have 8% of the EU market?" please see above a previous posting for a given opinion based on extensive personal observations driving on european and middle eastern roads appertaining to the number of u.s brand vehicles sighted per hundred while in transit. On the other hand you did put a smile on my face and others with the comment about 10"/25.4 cm of text, very funny and the thought of you holding a ruler up to the screen to measure said column itches generated even more hilarity through out the day here. even though it was not your intention and you used the comment in a pejorative manor it was nonetheless hilarious, well done. something did come-up and we'd be grateful if you would clarify. do you actually own a car? and if not can you actually drive? it was one of my younger assistant who pointed out that incorporated in your name (wii) is a possibly reference to a child's video game which is a clue to your likely age, her little brother has done something very similar with his newly acquired email address, and if you add in the somewhat petulant, pedantic and simplistic nature of your comments with no real evidence of adult interpersonal communication skills! it leads inexorably to conclude that you my well be a minor. where in there is no intrinsic problem with that fact wouldn't your time be better served commenting on something more age appropriate?

      robert josele Here is 2 inches of reply: I'm old enough to use a big-boy letter when one is necessary for proper sentence structure! The absolute fact that 8% of US cars are EU models is just that, a FACT! Despite your non-verified observations while riding your Big Wheel around the block!

      The name is Fiat Doblò. Fiat use to give Middle Ages coin names to their vans. Doblò stays for "doblone" (doubloon). The ProMaster here is sold as Fiat Ducato, a coin used back in 1300. The Fiorino (florin) is smaller thab the Doblò, and the Talento/Scudo are a middle way between the Doblò and the Ducato. The larger the van, the greater the value of the coin name.

      I'm thinking about replacing my Volvo V70 with something that's more practical with a higher seating position within the same length...
      So far I've tested the Citroen Berlingo (same as Peugeot Partner), Citroen Jumpy (same as Peugeot Expert and Fiat Scudo), Renault Kangoo, Ford Transit Connect and the Fiat Dobló...
      So far, the Fiat Dobló is winning very easily as it is very spacious, the most car-like to drive and IMO the best looking.
      The 1.4 T-jet we get here isn't exactly the most powerful engine and there's no automatic gearbox for it, but it sure beats the even weaker petrol engines of its contenders and it's downtuned, so there's some extra power that can be unlocked...
