Seems like you are going in the right direction....I would also dose bacteria to help aid in the killing of this algae. Bacteria can store nutrients in it self so when there is non to be had, it will feel off what it stored. Algae can not do that so it will eventually die, this is why carbon/bacteria dosing is very helpful in killing/ preventing any algae growth. Dr Tim's Waste Away is a prefered bacteria
The clam is losing xozanthalle alga or commonly called bleaching out. The clam will bleach out and die unless the water parameters are fixed now. I would say lower the nitrates, increase oxygen, and lower phosphates. The only safe quick way would be a large water change and a phosphate sponge. Good luck.
The Clams mantel is fading. Probably from either High Nitrates/Phosphates, Not enough light, or in-signification or unstable Cal, Alk, Mag levels. If these aren't fixed the clam will probably die. I've seen ones like yours. They usually don't make it. Good luck.
I know you want to keep your tank the way it is but here is a brief explanation on pro con of sand bottoms. You can not cent the dilution factor of the ocean. Once your sand starts having dead zones it will not stop. If you would like to hear more on bare bottom please email.

thank you. I will look into a large water change. My lvl's of cal and etc are all spot on.
